DELTONA, FLA. – Services will be on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Kirila Funeral Home Inc. for Clay S. Garvin, 84, formerly of Struthers, Ohio who died on Dec. 19, 2012, in Port Orange, Florida.
He was born Sept. 10, 1928, in Struthers, Ohio a son of the late Glenn and Theresa Shuster Garvin.
He was a former member of St. Nicholas Church, he worked as a pipefitter at Youngstown Sheet & Tube Company and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served in the U.S. Naval Reserves.
Clay was a devoted brother, uncle and great-uncle who loved everyone and was always there with a helping hand and words of encouragement.
He loved going to car shows, especially the Daytona Turkey Run and various other car shows and cruises.
He especially loved his Ford Mustang GT and was extremely excited and proud when he had the chance to take it for a ride around the Daytona Speedway and have his picture taken there.
He enjoyed watching football games and golfing.
His favorite was to watch college football and was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan.
He is survived by his sister Dolores Zook of Mercer, Pa. and his nephews, Gregory Clapper, Dennis Patrick, David Clapper, Dale Garvin and Thomas Brooks.
He was a great-uncle to Jill (Garvin) Lanier, Karen Garvin, Stephen Patrick, Katie Patrick, Desiree Clapper, Veronica Brooks and Philip Brooks.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Lorraine (Garvin) Clapper and Jean (Garvin) Patrick and his brother, Raymond Garvin.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Kirila Funeral Home Inc., 258 Poland Ave. in Struthers, Ohio.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown, Ohio.
There will be military honors presented at the cemetery by the U.S. Air Force
