I am looking for information on Pearl Garvin. What scattered information I do know is from family stories and her marriage record to my Grandfather Edwin Henry Bruning III in Shasta City, Ca. on 27 Feb 1900.

Pearl Garvin was supposedly born in Montague Texas Ca 1880. Parents were not mentioned in marriage information. The marriage was witness however by D. Garvin, and O. Garvin, both residents of Knob Ca.

According to my uncle who is now deceased, Pearl died during Childbirth (year unknown) sometime between 1900 and 1909 when my grandfather remarried to my Grandmother. Again, all of this took place in Shasta Co., California.

If you should have any information on this woman it would be greatly appreciated.

POW/MIA Korean War

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Jefferson County, Kentucky as his home of record. His remains were never recovered. Our government has no family contact at this time for this soldier

Soldier: MURREL GARVIN
Born: March 11, 1922
Date of loss: Nov. 28, 1950 MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (79years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
The will of Bernard Garvin 1864 of Ballynocker, Castledawson, mentions a nephew Henry Kain and a witness, Bernard Kain. In 1864 there are records of Kane's of these names in Laragh, near Craigavole, where a nephew of Bernard Garvin, also a Bernard Garvin lived. An Andrew Garvin and Eleanor Caine of Kilcronaghan had a son James born in 1798.

Anything you can tell me will be great. I do know that Biddy Garvin Kane & her husband Patrick & two children left Ireland at Derry...probably sometime in early June of 1850. The name Kane has many different spellings, considering all the countries that the Kanes emmigrated to. Thanks for responding & I hope to hear from you soon.

Best Regards,
Carol
James,
I found your messages about Garvin families in Northern Ireland. I have an ancestor whose birth name is Bridget Garvin. I know she was born around 1808, possibly later. She married Patrick Kane(b.1804),but my family does not know when or where. They had 3 living children...James b. @1839/40, Jane b.@1843/44 & Thomas who was born on the ship "Leander" while crossing the Atlantic to America in June of 1850. She went by Biddy & that is all we know of her. If you remember seeing anything in your files that I have mentioned, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks,
Carol Kane Haring

Cathy - we corresponded by mail 10 years ago. Glad to hear you are still researching. Lately I was speaking to Stephen Garvin Eakins of London(my 3rd Cousin) who mentioned your name. I have not come accross any further info on the Garvins of Armagh. Just seems to be 3 recorded births there in 1864-1921. Waiting on the 1911 census index coming out for further info. Have you had any more luck since the 10 years have lapsed. I have been very lucky, my family tree has grown to around 4000.

James.

Stephen - delighted to hear from you. I am the one who sent the family tree to your mother. It has continued to be updated since then and I have a better program for displaying it. Would apppreciate any new information or corrections to it. It has taken over 20 years to get to this stage of completion - over 3700 names. Can send as a PDF file (complete) To print it all out would use too much paper using my new improved book making program. (I have printed a few copies by breaking it into sections). Email me at - james.garvin1@btinternet.com with your email address to forward it.

I know this is an old thread but I'm just getting back into my books. I am also looking for info on a John Garvin. I have a David Garvin born in 1814 in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He was married to an Ellen Poole. I don't have anything for sources because I got all this info from my Uncle that has spent years researching this line. Any info we can share would be great. Thanks.

Hi Gerry
its like looking for a needle in a haystack dont you think.
i used to have the 1901 census return in 1901 for the Patrick Lyons that lived a few houses from my John Lyons and at the time as i could not find any connection and i discarded it as i thought maybe i was just a coincidence.(now i wish i had kept it)
but i have found out since then a Baptism record for my john lyons born in the same year as mine in 1839 and as my john had a son called Martin it seems to fit its is also in Castletown Geoghan.

john Lyons Baptised 15/7/1839 Castletown Geoghan
Parents Martin Lyons and Elizabeth Cox
Sponsers John Patrick Donagher and Mary hanighan.

Have you Tried the Irish Family History Foundation as they are well worth checking out i have found many birth/Baptismal/Marriage records that i had not been able to find before as well as the one above. they also have links to other Irish Counties you can email Them at irishroots-roots.ie

i hope its of help to you good luck.

Patrick

Hi Gerry
I also Have A Grand uncle John (Jack) Mc Donnell or Mc Donald depending on how he enlisted that was also killed in world war 1 and According to family folk lore after he enlisted in Mullingar he was was posted out to flanders but the family never heard anymore of him as he was not married and both his parents were dead i think he was another of the thousands that were just forgotten.
I know he existed and i have his birth Certicicate aswell as a photograph of him but according to the CWGC they have no record of him i hate to think that he just lies out there in Flanders or what remains of him as he would probably have been blown to bits as so many Soldiers were. it is only now bit by bit that the British Government is realising the fact that Thousands of Irish Men had had lost their lives
i think in those days Irish Soldiers were expendable and the Government of the time didnt treat the Familys of these men the same as they would have treated the English soldiers.
no wonder there was a civil war. anyway with regard to the other question re Laurence lyons i think i found it on the the CWGC website.
Also re the Griffiths Valuations of westmeath Listing one Acre or More between 1848-1854 here is what i found.

Michael Daly Garhy Westhmeath

i found no Elliffes

Christopher Rourke Shurock westmeath

Anne Rourke Shurock Westmeath

Michael Rourke Shurock Westmeath

Patrick Rourke Shurock Westmeath

Thomas Rourke Shurock Westmeath

Regards Patrick

Hi, Patrick,
Thanks very much for your replies. Yes, it does seem that Michael Lyons was married in 1912 and this is a new and very interesting piece of information. It is still a puzzle that he is not listed in the WW1 dead, as his brother is.
As regards the Lyons family, I have no other information at present. I assume that they were baptised in Castletown Geoghegan. However, in my experience the Castletown records are very poor. There are big gaps in the 1840s and many records are illegible. One possible line of investigation is Griffith's valuation. I have not looked into this yet.
The other family names that I am interested in are the Nolans, the Dalys(of Garhy), the Elliffes( of Carne or Clonyrina) and the Rourkes (of Shurock). All these places are in Castletown parish. If you had any information on them it would help.
Finally, I am curious about your earlier post which said that Laurence Lyons was a serjeant in WW1. The Commonwealth Graves Commission lists him as a private but I was wondering where you got your information.

In relation to the Lyons of Cloonagh, I am aware of a Patrick Lyons of Ballinagore who was married to Catherine Nolan in Castletown Geoghegan on 24/09/1872. This seems to be the Patrick Lyons referred to in previous posts. I am aware of two children, for definite, Michael, baptised in Castletown G 26/10/1879 and Laurence baptised in same church on 15/01/1882. Laurence was a private in WW1 and was killed in the Dardanelles on 8/8/1915. Catherine Nolan was a sister of my g grandmother. According to my own late mother Michael lyons was also killed in the Dardanelles but I cannot find any details about this. My mother mentioned another person "Hetty"( Hester/Esther or Henrietta?) whom I took to be another child of Patrick and Catherine and who was supposed to be married to a man called Seery. Anybody else got any further information on this family?
