I would love to see if my ancestors are listed in the Bible...I am researching William Pancoast Garwood and his first wife Bridget O'Donley (or O'Donely)...they had children who seem to be "unnamed" in any of the documents I can find.I am convinced that Sarah W Garwood who married William Henry Harlan was the d/o William Pancoast Garwood and his first wife Bridget O'Donely. Sarah was born in 1802 in New Jersey and all roads point to them as her parents...any help would be great. I can be reached at neenee1957@att.net.

God Bless...

I've actually made a lot of progress on this family, and have made contact.

Richard, it's great to meet you :-) Yes, I called Alma a few years ago, and she passed my information on to Gladys/Aunty Chub, and I spoke to her too before she passed. I am now in contact with her son Duncan.

If you'd like to contact me, my e-mail address is kristy_mac8@hotmail.com , also I'm on Facebook. Elizabeth West is a suburb of Adelaide, where Ann and Kath live. I'm in Brisbane, QLD. We (my daughters and I) have been down there a couple of times to visit.

I can send you what research I've done on the family tree if you like, let me know if you're interested.

Kristy, hello I have just seen your message and hope my reply gets to you. I am Richard son of George Bacon. I remember Alma Garwood (my aunt) mentioning a few years ago that someone had tried to get in touch but she was quite frail at the time and could not really respond too well. Any way today I have just found some old photos that my mum had - she was Mary Bacon. I bave photos of your mum, but I dont know if its Ann or Kath, they were about 17/14 yrs old in 1964, and one of your gran and grandad Dolly and Albert Street. The photographer was a studio called John Ploog in Elizabeth West - is that where you are? Dolly was my dad's sister and Ann and Kath are my cousins. I did a bit of googling and found your message. If you get in touch I can send some more details and photos if you like.

I am trying to find more information about my 3rd great Grandfather Samuel Garwood. I know he was born in Suffolk in approx 1801. He was married to Rebecca Watts in 1819. I keep stumbling across a Samuel Garwood born in Brockley in 1802 but I do not think that this is my Samuel. I would appreciate any help that I can get as my surname is Garwood and this is really the only branch of my tree that I have not had much luck with. I know Samuel died in Ipswich in 1851.

Re: Garwood - Woolston - Burlington County - New Jersey

I'm going to update an old posting.

Ephraim Garwood's(1825-1882) first wife was Elizabeth Ann Hewitt. They were married in 1850 and she evidently died, before 1856, when he married Ann Woolston (1837-1904).

Ann's is indeed the sister of Isaac Morgan Woolston (1826-1903). It is information about their parents Charles and Margaret Woolston I am seaking to discover.

Ephraim and Ann had at least two children - Ellwood(1858-1915) and Viola - born about 1860.

Ellwood Garwood married Lillie Samson and had two sons -- Ellwood Samson Garwood and Hobart Allen Garwood.

In 1870 Ephraim and Ann Garwood had a Sarah Woolston (born about 1851) also living with them. I would also be interested in discovering information about Sarah.

In reflecting upon the names of the Garwood children, I do know their is a connection between the Woolston's and William Wilson Allen (1837-1913). He served in the civil war with Isaac Morgan Woolson and married his daughter, Anna Maria Woolston (1848-1917). Whether Hobart Allen Garwood's name is associated with this is unknown.

It is also possible that some of the Garwood's are unidentified in a Woolston family reunion picture I have from 1902.

Presume that you know that you can now get a lot more info from FreeBMD.org. Have had a quick look and have found that the birth of Alma H L Bacon was registered December quarter 1923 in West Ham Volume 4a Page 765. You can also search on a mothers surname after 1912 so have had a look at this and have found 4 entries
Margaret E Garwood Sep 1927 Marylebone 1a 590
Robert A J Garwood Sep 1929 Romford 4a 730
Ruth a Garwood Dec 1938 Bermondsey 1d 112
Michael R Garwood Mar 1949 Essex SW 5a 180

What I can't tell from the above is whether the Mother is your Alma as there are a couple of Garwood/Bacon marriages one being May Bacon to Alfred J M Garwood Mar 1927 Pancras 1b 164. I would have thought that the first two births above are likely to be from the May Bacon marriage but you would need to look at the birth certs or the parish records to be sure. I can't find at the moment an Alma Bacon/Garwood marriage

Trust this helps

John Garwood

Hi

My ancestors came from Brockley in Suffolk, I can trace them back to John and Mary Garwood, John born 1816 and Mary 1807. Mary's maiden name was also Garwood. Mary gave birth to two children prior to marrying John, then a further 6 children with John. They came to London, St Pancras area some time after 1850 when their 5th child was born but before their 6th child who was born in St Pancras. They brought one of Mary's earlier children with them but appear to have left one behind in Suffolk. I am directly related to one of John & Mary's children Alice born in Brockley 1839. Does any of this appear in your family tree.

The 1930 census for Sunnyside, Yakima, Washington has Pearl & Herbert Reeves on it. They have 6 boys & a girl listed.

I don't know alot about this family. Pearl's parents,Zimri & Mary Garwood are in my family. I do not know who Zimri's folks were. From the time he was 1(1850) he was listed on every census with Ebenezer & Mary Anderson. Finally in the census that tells the relationship to the head of the household he was noted as being a grandson. After he & Mary were married he was with Ebenezer I think too. I would like to find someone that could help with who Zimri's folks were. Not sure of the spelling of his name either as every census has it spelled differently.

To those searching Mahalah Garwood. In England the birth and marriage certificates were not centralised until 1837 (hence you finding the 1841 marriage)so you will need to find someone who can research Parish Registers for you. I have a Garwood family in my tree but they are from Brockley, Suffolk and a relative of mine paid someone to research the Brockley Parish registers and found birth and death entries in the church registers.

Hope this is of some help.

Do you have access to the Garwood Bible that includes the marriage of Lucretia Garwood (5 Samuel, 4 John, 3 Wm, 2 Thos, 1 Thos)? It was 3/8/1763 at Evesham, NJ and/or Christ Church, Philadelphia, PA to James Claypoole ( you have his name as John, but I believe it was James Claypoole). I have been told the record gives the names of the parents of James Claypoole, which is what I'm searching for. Thanks

Hi Vicki,
Sally Garwood (Joseph, Joseph J., Joseph, John, William) was my gg grandmother. She married Archibald Spain 1819 in Indiana...according to family records. I'm in Burlington County, NJ doing some library research trying to verify my line back to William Garwood who apparently died on the trip to America in 1687. In looking at the Calendar of Wills in the NJ archives I found an entry for a William Garrett who I believe is our William Garwood. Copy of the entry is below.
Did you run into this during your research? What do you think? Could they have changed their name for some reason? Or should we just attribute it to an error on the part of the recorder?

And have you found anything relating Elias Farr, who is mentioned in the will info, to Mary Farr who married William's son John?

And how was Jane Garwood, William's widow, related to Elias Farr who seems to have funded their trip to America and left money to Williams sons Thomas and John?

And most importantly, why did the Garwoods make research so difficult by naming everyone the same names?...joke

Thanks, Randy Spain Romanchek

1687-88 Jan 17. Garrett, William, late of Suffolk Co., England, bound for West Jersey, mariner. Inventory of the estate of (Lb26.1.2, part of it in the custody of Charles Baggely); made by Richard Basnett and Thomas Gardner. (Duplicate).
1687 ----: Letters of administration on the estate of, granted to his widow, Jane Garrett. Burlington Records, p. 13
1687-8 Jan 21. Bond of the widow Jane Garriet signing Garwood, as administratrix; Elias Farr fellow bondsman.
1689 June 4.
Many thanks for the info have printed it and will keep with my Garwood papers.

My Garwoods also moved from Brockley but came to London and lived around the area of St. Pancras Station. Not sure how to find out but I wonder if any of the men worked on the original St. Pancras Station as it would have been built during the time that they lived there and the men would have been of the right age.

Many thanks for your help.

Mavis

Hi Mavis, I was pleased to see yor reply and must apologise for not posting any comment earlier. My branch of the family moved from Brockley via Hartest to Stanstead by the early 1800s. I have summarised my working notes from parish register research carried out in the 1980s.

My male ancestors shown in CAPITALS.

ROBERT Garrod married Frances Hammond at Brockley 26 Nov 1668
Their children all baptised at Brockley
Robert 17 Dec 1671
DANIELL 23 Auf 1674
Thomas 6 Sep 1677
Francis 27 Feb 1680 (parents shown as Frances and Robert Junior lately deceased)
The burial register shows Garwood Rob. Jnr .buried 3 Feb 1680
A later entry shows Garwoode Rob buried 2 Mar 1683, could this be the child above or Roberts father???

DANIEL married Christian Pain 18 October 1695 at Stanstead
Their children were baptised at Hartest
Daniel (Garrod) 21 Feb 1691
Christian (Garrod) 27 July 1699
Daniel 30th (Garwoode) June 1707 (Did the Daniel of 1691 die and the name was used again. This is not on my direct line so has not been researched.)
Christian “ye wife of Daniel Garwood “was buried at Hartest 10 Jan 1709

DANIEL then married Hester Root at Hartest 2 July 1710
Their children were baptised at Hartest
Edward 6 May 1711
ROBERT 24 Nov 1717
Daniel was buried at Hartest 25 Nov 1736.

ROBERT married Suzanna (Susan)
Their children were baptised (my notes do not show where)
Susan 18th January 1737
ROBERT 27 May 1738
Mary 26 Jan 1743 (Buried 28 Jan1843, Suzanna had been buried 18h Jan, had she died in childbirth, and the infant only survived a few days)

ROBERT then married Rebecca Bean at Acton in 1748
A child Gabram was baptised 2 July 1749
Robert was buried 3 Jun 1776 at Stanstead.

All the younger ROBERT’s children lived in Stanstead , my ancestor MICHAEL was born 1784.His mother was Mary Greygoose.

I have only just returned to family history research so I am trying to decipher scribbled pencil notes made in local record offices. If I come across any more Brockley stuff I will let you know

Best Wishes
Colin Garwood
