(My dad's sister) she is on my tree.. If you have a look at my tree, there may be some information that you don't have or that may differ from dates on this site. For example, I know that the year of my grandmother's death is incorrect on this site (1977 not 1984.)I can assure you that the dates that I have are correct. Thanks for your help..

Hello Anjela, Thanks for the information and I can confirm that I have a Mabel Houston in my family tree. Like you my grandmothers name was also Muxworthy but with a christian name was Ada from South Yorkshire in England . According to my tree I have Mabel married to a Edmund Muxworthy who according to my relationship chart makes him my 5 cousin twice removed so it looks as though both you and I are distantly related. Just as a matter of interest are you related to a Le Muxworthy the lady I have previouisly been in correspondence with.

Regards

Malcolm

The Ann C Bull referred to is, to be precise, "Annie Clara Bull" and was my grandmother. John Bull b. 1845 is therefore my gt.g'father and Mary Ann Gascoigne my gt.g'mother. Would love to hear from you. I have some photos but doubtless you do too.

Anna M (nee Gascoigne) Fosdick b 1838 AL d 1908 Mobile AL

MOBILE REGISTER - 23 SEPTEMBER 1908

DEATH OF MRS ANNA M FOSDICK

Mrs Anna M Fosdick, whose death occurred yesterday, was in many respects a most remarkable woman. The offspring of good, moral, and intelligent people, she was true all her life to the best traditions. Endowed by nature with a fine intellect and a heart of unbounded generosity and sympathy, she helped as much as any other to sustain the good reputation of this community in all kinds of charitable work. She had this noteworthy characteristic: that she completed whatever she began. If it were a simple charity she gave of her own means, and if that were not enough she was ready to go out and ask the aid of others. She never baffled nor discouraged, but proceeded with a confidence and determination that removed all obstacles to the success of her undertaking. She was charitable almost to a fault, and she was attentive to all claims presented to her. When she was poor, by reason of unforeseen misfortune, she worked most bravely supporting burdens that would have daunted others, and when again in good circumstances she never forgot those in need. Her gifts, her tokens of friendship, her thoughtfulness for others were the little incidents in her life, very dear to her, and winning the affection of hundreds who will ever remember her both for what she did and the kindly thought that prompted the doing.
In the larger things she was equally efficient and helpful. Of those, the most important was her work for the home for old and dependent women. After years of service as a member of the Female Benevolent Society, she, as president, conceived the plan and carried it out for the establishment of the home on a better basis than it then was, and the home on Government Street is her enduring monument. Another public work was her canvass of the state for an Alabama exhibit at the World's Fair in Chicago, wherein she displayed great energy and met with more reward than afterward attended efforts made by others at later expositions. She served also as one of the lady managers of the Chicago exposition, and was much complimented for her judgement, especially in the department of women's work in art. Yet another public service was in organizing under the auspices of a local newspaper and in superintending for many years a Christmas celebration for poor children, whereat hundreds of the little ones were made happy by the receipt of gifts appropriate to the season. For eight years she was connected with the Erwin Ledyard Christmas tree festival. For several years the deceased was president of the women's auxillary of the Young Men's Christian Association. At the time she took charge there were fifteen members and when she resigned 160 members.
Mrs Fosdick had good taste in all matters, was especially fond of good and handsome books, was a great reader and most interesting talker on all matter of subjects.
The lady died after an illness of some three weeks. She was a native of Mobile, and born October 19, 1838. Her father was Charles Gascoigne of Sheffield, England, and her mother was prior to her marraige, Miss Deborah Post Douglas of Edenburgh, Scotland. She was married to the late Sylvestor U Fosdick January 30, 1859, in this city. She was for many years a member of the old Bee Hive church. When the St Francis Street Methodist Church was rebuilt in 1895 she was appointed chairman of a committee to select the handsome stained glass windows which adorn that structure now.
She leaves two sons, Robert C and Sylvester D Fosdick of Mobile, and other relatives.
The remains will be laid to rest in the grave alongside of her husband, who preceded her many years ago. The funeral will take place this afternoon at 4:30 o'clock from the family home. Rev D A Planck, pastor of the Central Presbyterian Church will officiate at the funeral, this being one of the last requests made before her death.

Not my family, just sharing from the newspaper archives of the Mobile Public Library.

Correction for the marriage of the parents of Thomas Gascoigne. England researcher has sent marriage entry for Ann Hobbs to Thomas Mompesson at ST. EDMUND's in Salisbury on 22 May 1589. The Wiltshire Vistitation book of 1623 confirms the date, place, and groom. Therefore, we can NO say that Ann (Hobbs) Mompesson married Henry Gascoigne on that date in Salisbury Cathedral. It is not correct and can not be documented.

I have received the marriage record for Anne Hobbes. She did NOT marry Henry Gascoigne at Salisbury Cathedral on 22 May 1589 as we have been told in print.

On 22 May 1589 Thomas Mompesson, Anne's first husband, married her at St. Edmunds Church in Salisbury. I have the Will of Thomas which shows that she was his wife in 1591. They had one child and were expecting another.

There is also the Yorkshire Parish Records where this same data can be found. However, it does not state where or when Anne (Hobbes) Mompesson married Henry Gascoigne.

Yes, Thomas whose parents are Henry and Ann. Well, I am going to England next week and I decided to get the marriage record of Ann and Henry. Surprise. All that my researchers have found so far is the marriage of ANN HOBBS to THOMAS MUMPEZON on 22 May 1589 at Salisbury at St. Edmund. Does this sound familiar?

It looks like we have a major problem. Do you know of anyone who has EVER seen the marriage record for Henry and Ann?

The name is Gascoigne, Gascoyne, Gaskins. They came with
William the Conqueror to England in 1066 and used the name Gascoyne at first. Then some began to use Gascoigne. Gaskins is mainly used by descendants in US, but some retain the spelling Gascoigne in both countries.

I don't know who your Edward is without more data. I do know that we don't spell our name with the letter "l" at all and never have in any of the Visitation books in England.

Hi Neil, I am fairly certain that Ellens last name is Canning, based on a newspaper article that my grat grandfather Samuel David Gascoigne had given an invterview for. In it he recollected taht her cousin, Albert Canning, was a member of Scotalnd Yard. He was getting a little confused when he gave this so some of the facts are a little off. I do know that Ellen was born in Turweston, Buckinghamshire.

Tell me, so you know of a story in the family about one of Sam's and Ellis' sisters running off to either AUtralia or New Zealand with a salesman.?

I have a picture of John and Ellen, and a couple of others laying about somewhere, if you would like, I can scan them and send them to you off the boards?

Donna

Hello all,

My name is Thomas Gregory Gascoigne V (The fifth). In the little reading I have done it seems a one Thomas Gascoigne and his son Thomas Gascoigne II were more or less trouble makers back in the day. I am trying to find out if the passing of my name is because of something this man started or just a strange coincidence. Any information would be great. I believe that Thomas G. Gascoigne the II (my g g grandfather) was born in NY and then moved to CA and on to AZ. If my logic is close he mave have been born around 1915-1920. Thank you for your help.
