Hi .Thanksfor replying. Kay was wondering where they got the middle name Henderson. She has always thought that it would be the maiden name of his mother which obviously it isnt. So maybe it has some connection to the parents of Robert J Jones or Sarah Clarke. Unfortunately I have not been able to trace back any further without certificats which I am applying for. If you can give me some idea of the whereabouts of George before his marriage it would give me a start. Regards Sue

Gaskells from Upholland

My grandmother was a Gaskell (although the family changed the spelling to Gaskill after emigrating to the US sometime before 1870). My great-great grandfather was Thomas Gaskell born in 1837 in Lancashire and died in 1906 in Fall River, Massachusetts. Acording to his death certificate, his parents were William Gaskell and Margaret Oldham. I have traced the Gaskells through ancestry.com back to James Gaskell born about 1588 in Upholland.

The only information I have for the 18th century and earlier Gaskells is gleaned from baptism, death and marriage records through ancestry.com. I would appreciate any information or links anyone can provide. My paternal grandmother was Margaret Gaskell Duffy who was born January 16, 1892 and died October 21, 1977.

my grandmother annie georgina wilson was born in coal creek, b.c. near fernie in 1915 to thomas moir wilson and annie hudspith gaskell. i am trying to trace annie gaskells family, mother, father, brothers who i believe remained in fernie for many years after annie moved with her husband to ladysmith where she unfortunately died in childbirth in 1924. my granny annie was only 7 when her mother died and her father thomas wilson who was a coal mine foreman at extension in the 20s remarried and my grandma lost track of her mothers family. i am interested in connecting with any of the gaskell family from the fernie b.c. area and would be interested in any old family pictures or anything of that sort. thank you very much and look forward to hearing from any of my long lost relatives!!! sincerely sue malloch victoria, b.c.

Tracing descendants of Martha A Gaskell & John Hilton

John Hilton b 1873 married Martha Alice Gaskell b 1871, Pemberton May 9th 1894 at the Wesleyan chapel Wigan. They had 3 children Maud b 1895, Ethel b 1897 and John Harold Hilton b 1899 all in Pemberton. At the time of their marriage Martha was living at Brunswick cottage, Pemberton. 1901 census shows the family living at 38 Scott Lane, Pemberton. The same road as her mother and siblings. John Harold Hilton m Esther Goulding qe Dec 1920 at Independent Methodist Chapel, New springs. I have found one son Ronald b qe sep 1922 in Wigan District.

My husband’s grandfather was Solomon Gaskell, Martha’s brother. There were 9 children and I am trying to track down any living descendants. Finding old family photos is very rewarding, unfortunately living in Essex means most of my research has to be done on the Internet.

If any one has any information on any of this family can they contact me Louise Armstrong, 01255 503327 or email louise@armstrong98.plus.com
Hi,Kristal,

Haven't checked this site in about a year. It turns out you posted your message on my dad's birthday, his 87th!

He is Oliver G. Gaskell.

It's late tonight, but I'll be in touch. My dad did a lot of work, but I got stuck with Benjamin's parents. I noticed on your tree you have Benjamin connected to Silas Gaskell and Deborah Wing. I couldn't get the dates to fit. Can you send info on where you found the connection?

Many thanks,

Rick

I have him in my family tree which is a public tree. John Dakin Gaskell was the son of Roger Gaskell (b. 1767) and Agnes Gaskell. Roger Gaskell was the son of Samuel Gaskell (1733-1813) and Ann Woodcock (1724-1790). Agnes Gaskell was the daughter of John Gaskell and Agnes Dakin. John Dakin Gaskell married his first cousin Ann Gaskell (same last name). They had 6 children: Roger, Ernest Holbrook, Walter Holbrook, Mabel Agnes, Mary, and John Arthur.

So you are my long-lost cousin Andrew in Oz, I believe. I just replied to an earlier post of yours. Is our whole family rumaging around in family history now that we are getting old? I know Kate has done a bunch of research and I have just gotten into it in the past couple of years. You seem to have some interesting background stories about our relatives and I would love to hear more. I'm sorry I lost touch with you - a Christmas card got returned (no forwarding address) a few years back, so I thought you must have moved on and quite possibly didn't want to stay in touch. I saw Kate a couple of times around the time my mother died in 2004. Do e-mail me back, love to hear from you. Glenys
Hello: I just read your post from 2003, and I think we must be related in some way. My last name was also Gaskell Burton before I married. My grandmother was Mary Frances Gaskell married to Charles Henry Burton. Her oldest son, Roy Gaskell Burton was my father. I remember Great Aunt Do vaguely from Christmas letters. Also Great Aunt Ti(ny), short for Christina. Others, too. I'd love to hear more from you. My e-mail is sbecroft@sbcglobal.net.
Hi - good to hear back from you. I think I must indeed be related to you wife in some manner. Holbrook Gaskell (1813-1909) and his wife Frances Ann Bellhouse had nine children, including a son also named Holbrook(1846-1919) whose second marriage to Edith Alcock produced my grandmother, Mary Frances Gaskell, who married Charles Henry Burton. Their oldest son, Roy Gaskell Burton, was my father. I would love to hear more about your side of the family and would be happy to exchange information. Look forward to hearing form you again.
Hi Rick,

I am Sandy's sister-in-law and am working on the family tree for myself and my husband. What I have found out seems a little different from your information.

Benjamin Gaskell & Mercy Kingsley had Julius, who married Mary WESSIE. See #7 at the following website: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ohashtab/photos/tombrcc.ht...

I suppose Julius could have married twice, but from the cemetery photos it looks like Ms. WESSIE is our ancestor, as Benjamin J and Irene Varner are the parents of Homer Gaskell, Sandy and Robert Jr's paternal grandfather, from Ashtabula, Ohio.

I've only just begun my research, so any other information would be appreciated. You can see musings at: http://weesnergaskell.tribalpages.com/tribe/browse?userid=we...

Thanks,

Kristal KW Gaskell.

My 3rd Gt Grandmother was SARAH GASKELL . She died in Ireland 1796. Her children were. Robert, Salina and Ann {MARTIN}. SARAH was married to REv. ROBERT MARTIN. She is buried in ARMAGH IRELAND. We beleive her to have gone to IRELAND from ENGLAND or SCOTLAND in the middle part of the 1700's. Any help would be appreciated, nothing is known of her own family. She was 48 years old in 1796 when she died..
