I am doing research on the Gasque family of SC, of which several branches came to AL. The name "Gasque" (Huguenot) was hard to spell and became Gaskey/Gasky in many instances. I believe Andrew was of this line, In the early generations in Marion District SC, several branches appear to have had to date undientified issue, if one is to believe the early censuses (1790-1800-1810).
I like you am skeptical as to the eastern European thesis I have seen on Ancestry World Tree.
I have several Gasque lines, the closest being my gr-great garndmother Susan Gasue b1843, who m James Valentine Dozier who d. in the Civil War, after having only one child.
