Hello Betty. My mother is Dorothy Jean HANKS Estes, daughter of Della GASKEY and John HANKS. Mom told me that when Della passed in 1932 she went to live with Dovie and called her Mama from then on. I started researching Mom's family late last year and have hit a wall with Andrew J though. I have a few photos of Della on my tree http://trees.ancestry.com/pt/pedigree.aspx?tid=30894179 and wonder if you know who the other people are in a couple of them. Let me know here or email me at outinspace@bellsouth.net or find me on facebook. Love to hear from you and swap info.

Thanks,

Danny Estes

I see the threads here are all around 10 years old. Has anyone found out any more about Andrew J Gaskey b. 1805-1810 who married Julia Allgood? Census records show a possible 6 different birth years for him, a birthplace of SC, and potential birthplaces of his father in VA, MD, and England. I can't find anything prior to the census of 1860 and don't have any idea what his parents' names are. Anyone with any more info out there?

Thank you!

Re: George W Gaskey and Amanda Yost

The father of your George Gaskey, husband of Amanda Yost is most certainly George Adam Gaskey, who died in 1863 as a confederate soldier in Virginia. I have found evidence that George A. and Margaret Gaskey of Cabarrus Co., NC had two more children after the 1860 census and before George A. died in 1863: George W. Gaskey (1861-1927) and Barbara M. Gaskey Barnhardt (1863-1910). George's widow Margaret appears in the 1870 census as the wife of a much younger George Couch, with her Gaskey children listed with the surname of Couch. Her daughter Barbara's death certificate lists her mother's maiden name as Margret Cathren Maxwell. This is now outlined in the ancestry tree 'Gaskey Family Tree' by JoeGaskey48 (my brother-in-law).
Edit
Delete

Hello John, if you are still out there!
I was just studying up on the family of George Gaskey, son of Joshua. I did't see a son named John Jesse Lee on any census with George and Crissy so I didn't know about him. Just yesterday I found an article in the Historical Newspapers Collection about when J.J.Gaskey died of an apparent heart attack, I think it said while he was fishing. I couldn't figure out who J.J. was and now I guess I know! There are a few other questions I would like to ask you if you get this message. Thanks!

Hello, Suzie....

There are pieces of John Jesse Lee Gaskey's story that I need to firm-up, but the information you have is correct. He was checking his fish traps on Second Creek in western Rowan county at the time of his death. I've heard that he spent some of his childhood living with relatives so he may not have been in the home at the time the census was taken and the 1890 census did not survive. He married my grandmother, Ada Rufty, around 1910.

Yes, please contact me and I'll try to answer any questions you have.

Regards,

John Gaskey

I have James W. Gasque/Gaskey married Caroline Coven, a widow with children, 15 Mar. 1866 in Monroe Co., AL, one child, Ada. James died young.

James was son of Thomas Gasque and Mary Frances Ogbourne who mar. 18 Aug. 1835 in Montgomery Co., AL. They had four children, John, Harriet Elizabeth, James W. and William. Thomas died prior to 1850 Census and Mary Frances and children are found living with Nancy Ogbourn (her mother?) in Butler. Soon after she married neighbor Reuben R. Stinson and had two other sons, Reuben J. (my gg-grandfather) and Yancy Stinson.

Hope this helps.

I would appreictae any info on thyis line you now have. I am researching the Gasque family of SC, which appear to be the progenitors of your gaskey line.

I am doing research on the Gasque family of SC, of which several branches came to AL. The name "Gasque" (Huguenot) was hard to spell and became Gaskey/Gasky in many instances. I believe Andrew was of this line, In the early generations in Marion District SC, several branches appear to have had to date undientified issue, if one is to believe the early censuses (1790-1800-1810).

I like you am skeptical as to the eastern European thesis I have seen on Ancestry World Tree.

I have several Gasque lines, the closest being my gr-great garndmother Susan Gasue b1843, who m James Valentine Dozier who d. in the Civil War, after having only one child.

Rev Pike Thomas

I would welcome keeping abreast of your researches.

I show Andrew Gaskey, born in 1805 married Julia Ann Allgood, born in 1832 did have a son George born in 1860. You show your George born in 1890 to individuals by the same name. Also did you spell Andrew's last name correctly or was it a typo? You can see information I have on our family web site at:http://www.ealgood.com/
