I have this James P. Gaskin in my line as well, the info I have is as follows....

born about 1794 in South Carolina, m- about 1820 Agnes H. Barkley. Listed in the 1820 census of Pendleton District, Anderson Co, SC moved to Cherokee Co, Ala between 1837 and 1839...

My line is off of his son, William Thomas. I have more info coming back down the tree, but none going up past James P. , so I would be interested in anything you have!
