My grandfather, came to the United States from Hungary when he was just a boy, about eight I think. This was pre the Great Depression of 1929 for the United States.He was born in Budapest, although I do not know if that was where he actually lived. Only his mother, father and brother came with him so there are lots of his relatives still existing in Hungary. If you have any other questions just ask. I'll tell you whatever I know. I am dying to find relatives in my grandfathers home country.

Do you think there is a chance that I have the names confused? Maybe I got them switched. I would have to confer with my uncle about details. It just seems very coincidental! I can offer a few more details. My grandfather married a woman named Marion Annette Thomas. They had four children who have had 8 children (me being one of them) If I can get more information I would love to confer with you further if you think there is a chance they are one and the same. There are only Their are only 10 living blood Gaspar relatives of mine alive, I would really really like to find the others.

Wow, That's so strange. My grandfather was George Gaspar, and his brother is Gazer Gaspar. It all seems so similar. (heck I even have a cousin named Courtney!) I'm the only one with an exact matching name and it's with your father though.

My grandfathers name might have been different before he came to America. He was born in 1913 I believe and he came over as a small child so around 1920. In America he went by Joseph George Gaspar. His son (my father) is named George Joseph Gaspar. I cant even remember when his birthday was March 13. His brothers Hungarian name was Giza or Jisa or Jeeza or Geeza. Im not sure how it is spelled just that it sounded like Jesus or Geezer.

My Grandfather, who recently passed was George Gaspar, he had a brother who was not in touch with the family. In fact i just found out at the funeral that he even had a brother! Hi,
even if your grandpa was born in Austria-Hungaria, its possible he might have spoken romanian. Austria-Hungaria covered very large area, much larger than todays Austria and Hungary. It included also Slovakia, Czech republic, parts of Romania, Croatia, Ukraine etc. Even today, there are some areas near romanian border where people still speak romanian. I would guess its mostly old inhabitants of the area, but i dont know. im from Slovakia and in the place where I live lot of people still speak or understand hungarian, because its so close to the border. In fact the place my grandpa was worn, which is now in Slovakia was Hungary then.

I'm searching genealogy for my friend who is a great, great granddaughter of John Gaspar & Maria Rice Santos. Her mother was Susie Kaleo Okalani Gasper. My friend doesn't have a computer, so I volunteered. Here's what info I have on John Gaspar's parents:

My grandparents were both born there, although they always said they came from Czechoslovakia, the birth cert. says: Austria/Hungary. Grandma: Katherine Gaspar born in Dec. of 1895, and has twin sisters and not sure how many other siblings and Grandpa: Paul Gaspar, a couple years before her, not sure of the year. My father is William Gaspar, he had a brother Paul Gaspar, and 2 sisters, Katherine and Dorothy.

To the best of my knowledge Rosina (nee ???) Balazs was from Hungary. Romania is a strong possibility, though. Our information is very stetchy. This is my husband's side of the family.

Rosina and Amalia were sisters. It's possible that their maiden name was Kloos.

Rosina married Ignacz Balazs prior to 1920, because their cemetary plot (for 6 graves) was purchased in 1920. Ignacz died in 1934, twenty years before my husband was born. We didn't even know his name until we searched for the tombstone last weekend. That's when we discovered Andreas Kloos, Barbara Gaspar, and Nick Gaspar buried with them. It is our understanding that Rosina was from Hungary.

Amalia married William Girresch. These are my husband's grandparents. For years I was told that they were from Germany. Then I was told that at the time it was actually Transylvania and/or Romania.

Seems the two sisters would be from the same place. :) Perhaps they said Rosina was Hungarian because she came over from Hungary with her Hungarian husband??? Although, I understand that the boundaries on the map were changing all the time in that area.

Daniel, try this on for size. Richard F. Kehn was my great grandfather. Bernard Gasper would have been the grandfather of my great grandfather's 1st wife. Hope this helps.

Bernardus Gaspar was christened 5 August 1826, son of Wehelmi Gaspar, married 7 January 1823 to Angelae Loch at Bitburg, Germany, son of Leonardi Gasper who married Anglae Schap. Leonardi was christened at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Bitburg, Rheinland, Preussen.

I *just* started researching my family tree (today!) and have decided to begin with the Gaspars.

My Grandparents were Louis and Helen Gaspar (nee Meszaros). They were were both born in Ska Can. Louis around 1920ish and Helen Meszaros in 1919. Louis A brother named Steve (married Agnes) and a sister named Angie (married Frank Broderick) plus other brohers. I'm sure I can find more info but, thought I'd start by reaching out here.

also my gg alice gaspar formerly alice grace married my great-grandfather elmer gaspar sr. and that is why she became a gaspar, but she was born a grace. my name is chablis kekua formerly chablis gaspar of nanakuli, oahu hawaii. my grandfather john gaspar was born at napoopoo, kealakekua bay to be exact. our family still owns the houses there at kealakekua, and continues to take care of the gravesite of our family members which is located near the bay. hope this is helpful, thanks for the reply.

Searching for a Theodora Gasper from Buffalo, New York. This is my great-aunt. She was seven years old in the 1910 census - birthdate maybe 1903. Her parents are Karol and Leocadia Wesolowski from Superior, WI. She was born in Minnesota, however. Theodora went by the nickname "Tillie". Tillie moved to Buffalo, New York and I have placed her there in 1944. Any information about Tillie would be greatly appreciated, husband?, kids?.
