I am Patsy Nell Gaspard (Richard). My father was Duffy Gaspard. His mother was Natilia Gaspard and his father was Joe Gaspard. They lived and died along the Louisiana bayous, specifically the Lacassine bayou. Family stories tell that the family came here as Picard's, but they were embarrased as Picard translated into a bad English word, and therefore changed their name to Gaspard. It is said that they came and settlyed in the Cameron PArish, Louisiana area around Grand or Little Cheniere, then wound up in the South Eastern area of Calcasieu PArish, Louisiana in and around the community of Bell City and HAyes. Duffy Gaspard is a cousin to the country-cajun singer Doug Kershaw. Please send any info you have on subject.
