Gasque is where Shell Banks Church sits now. That is where I grew up on land that was squatted by my anscestors. It was in the community of Shell Banks that died out after the hurricane of 1926. It is on Dixie Graves Hwy in Gulf Shores. There was a woman that ran the Gasque post office from her home. We called her Aunt Vi. She never married. She was in love with my great uncle Wesley Hurley. He went to Biloxi to get a good job and never came back for her. The Shell Banks cemetary has alot of the former residents of Gasque. I do not know where the name came from. The most dominant names from that area in that time were Nelson, Ewing and Callaway.
