My father, Adolph Gassner, was from the Principality of Leichtenstein. He came to Canada in 1952. His knowledge of the Gassner family was extensive. Apparently, we are all decended from two brothers who joined the Roman Army in what is now the French part of Switzerland. They settled in Leichtenstein. The Roman helmet on the family crest indicates service with the Roman Army. The Gassner name is the second oldest name in Leichtenstein next to the von Leichtenstein name. My sister has been to Leichtenstein and has seen the copy of the family tree that my grandfather made - it goes back several hundred years. We know that a branch of the family emigrated to the US in the late 1700s. Also, there are records in Leichtenstein of all the people who left for other countries. I hope this information helps.
