I am looking for information on Albert B. Thomas who had a son, Corban Gatchel Thomas born ~ 1908 in Seventy Six, KY. Corban was given the middle name of Gatchel because his father, Albert was a part time photographer. Family history says Gatchel company had asked that Albert bring Corban to Louisville because of baby pictures of Corban, but he did not do so.

Hi Suzzee,

My name is John Gatchel, and I used to be vice president of W. D. Gatchel & Sons (my father was president). We started out as a camera store way back in 1862 and in the 1970's moved into printing supplies. In 1999, my father sold the company to a competitor and has since retired. I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have, feel free to drop me an e-mail...take care -jg

John W.

At the beginning of each year I review my family tree for those that have been by brick walls the previous year. WELL--'Ole John W. Gitchell' has been eluding me for many years.

This is what I have:

Descendants of John W. Gitchell

Generation No. 1

1. John W.1 Gitchell was born 1814 in Coshowton, OH or PA. He married Sarah Neal Bef. 1850 in GA, daughter of William Neal and Rebecca Slatton. She was born 1826 in GA.

Notes for John W. Gitchell:

There's no listing for John W. Gitchell in the Agricultural Schedule of 1850, but this is the information found in the 1850 census:

------------------------------
Burke Co. GA 1850
Page 289
Date - 25/26 July 1850
District - 61st

House 285
John W. Gitchell 36 m Hewer of timber born in PA
Sarah 24 f GA
Clarend 5mof GA
Andrew J. Tankersly 21 m TN

------------------------------

Murray Co. GA 1850 taken a few months later shows that John W. Gitchell with the same family was born in OH.

--------------------

More About John W. Gitchell:
Census: July 1850, Burke Co,. NC age 38

More About Sarah Neal:
Census: July 1850, Burke Co., Ga age 24

Children of John Gitchell and Sarah Neal are:
+ 2 i. Mary2 Gitchell, born 10 October 1855 in Murray Co., GA; died 1902 in Doniphan, MO.
+ 3 ii. Clarinda Gitchell, born 05 January 1850 in Whitfield, GA; died 11 June 1925 in Oxly, MO.
4 iii. Sally Gitchell4, born 1852.
+ 5 iv. Sarah L. Gitchell, born May 1854 in GA; died in unknown.

In the 1860 Census Whitfield Co., GA Sarah Gitchell and her daughters are living with her parents, William and Rebeca Neal.

Sarah's second husband was Charles R. McAllister. She had three more girls Amanda, 1865, Elinor, 1866, Julie, 1869------

So, sometime between 1850-1860 John W. is gone leaving no trace and no family stories. This year I sure would like to fine what happen to Great-Great Grtandfather John W.

Thank You for you time and HAPPY NEW YEAR, Linda Fisher
