Descendants of Jane Gatcum & George Edward James, England

I am looking for descendants of the above who married in St George Hannover Square in 1846 and had five children: George James in 1847, Frank James in 1850, Kate James in 1852, Alfred James 1854 and William James in 1859. Jane FRY B 1849 in Farnham is a great aunt of mine. She married Alfred Gatcum in 1871.
Was FRY her maiden name and do we know who the father was of the son she had before she married Alfred?

Gatcombe family of Somerset

Researching the Gatcombe family in various areas of Somerset, particularly North Petherton, Bridgwater, Henstridge, Huntspill and other nearby parishes. A number of them have the middle name Ruscombe, which I believe came into the family via a marriage to Jane Coles, who was descended from a Ruscombe. Have loads of information on many families, but still trying to tie in the strays!

Sorry, I've not looked at variant names in other counties. Still trying to tie in the Gatcombes in Somerset. There are so many of them, and I'm not sure even all these can be tied in.

I'm continuing to research the GATCUMs and have a tree back to 1700 - when the family were in Chilbolton, Hampshire - right through to the present day. Apart from a few gaps, I have information on most of the branches which I am happy to share.

Spelling variants I've found include: GATCOM(e), GADCOM(e), GADCUME and occasionally GATCOMB(e) although the latter appears to 'belong' to another family group which has its roots in Somerset.

Kim, in your search have you tied in any of the Gadgcombe/Gidgcombe/Gadcombe/etc? I have them from all around Cornwall, namly St. Cleer. Trying to find a connection. They seem to disappear in the later 1800's.

Hi Kathy, It's possible......back in the 1700s there were Gatcombe's in Somerset, Eng. Two brothers went to Maine whilst the rest stayed in England and scattered around the country. The spelling changed quite a lot - in Farnham, where my family are from, the spelling became GATCUM. In Maine - and in Somerset - it became Gatcomb and Gatcombe. When in England I found out about my Fry ancestors and a relationship to the Gatcum Name...my great grandfather was Alfred John Fry son of Jane Fry who later married Alfred Gatcum and had 11 more children. They lived in Farnham, Surrey, England. This relationship was kept secret by the Fry side. I have more info/names if anyone is interested. Email rsfry@thot.net

Can I get in on this too? I have a lot of name variations from the Cornwall area. I have yet to be able to tie in with any of the different spellings. I have see it Gatcombe, Getcombe, Gidcombe. I have one Gagcombe from Nova Scotia. I have a framed print I picked up in Scotland in Sept about the Gatcombe's. Go to the Gidcumb message board and get my address.
