Did she come from Box somerset Mother Ann father John Facey Bath I am try ing to find which Charlotte is my line as there were two Charlotte Bath marriages in Tasmania in the years about 1839

I was very excited to find your posting from October 2004. We are definitely "cousins" and you must be related to my cousins my aunt. Gomer James Gatehouse and his wife Diana Williams Gatehouse were my great-grandparents! I do have information to share, and I am still searching for more information on our Gatehouse family and would love to hear from you.

Yes; I am in England and married to Mike.
Where did Bigbads come from? Richie always called my kids that.
I have found cousins in Wales and Scotland from May's side, not an easy task with the name Jones!!
The Gatehouse's are proving to be tricky!!
Does your Mum have Edgar and May's original Marriage cert. because from the transcript I have; I think one of the witnesses is a LeDrew, and that could be the path to follow??

OK, now I am confused. You are my Uncle Richie's daughter in law in England? Who is married to Michael? My cousin Ritchie, son of Uncle Jack who died in 1987, also passed away in the last year, he was only 47.

I don't remember meeting Auntie Carrie, she was a bit of a recluse (runs in the family), but Packy (nickname of ours for Edgar G, instead of Grandpa) took good care of her. He brought her out to Victoria when he was set up. She was adopted by a family in Toronto until then. My mom knows that story. And yes, she is Myfanwy.

Her mom, May Jones, didn't see her dad after she moved out to Canada in 1910, he never made it out. I do know he was from Whales and died of black lung as he was a miner.

I was so excited to hear Packy's mom's name as Julia LeDrew. Do you know when John Gatehouse emmigrated to Newfoundland? Mom knows nothing of her dad's history because he never spoke of them, probably because he was so young when they died.

I am Richie's daughter-in-law.
The Gatehouse's are a difficult bunch to track, I'm hopeful the Edwards Island cemetery in Change islands is my next link!? and that JG died of consumption, so adds up.
I did not know of Carrie, have you tried to trace her?
I now know that LeDrew is a popular name in Change Islands, but so many helpful people out there, I shall just have to be patient!
May's ancestory was tricky, but I'm getting there, still don't know the cause and date of death of her father.

Edgar Gatehouse was my mothers father, and I would like to find out more about him. Most info my mom knows is vague, she knows his parents died in Newfoundland of TB, and thought there were siblings who did as well. He was put on the fishboats to work and his baby sister Carrie, was adopted. He arrived in Victoria in 1910 and met my grandmother and they married in 1915.

Does anyone know where John Gatehouse and Julia LeDrew were from?

Slowly, slowly I move on with this branch, if anyone out there can help me much appreciated.
From the marriage cert. of Edgar David Gatehouse b. 1888 Change Islands, Newfoundland. I have his father as John Gatehouse and his mother as Julia LeDrew.
The story was that Edgar was an orphan? Arriving Vancouver 1911ish?
In the Edwards Island cemetery there is a John and Julia Gatehouse; she died 1898 age 38, he died 1900 age 38, also a Francis Gatehouse died 1906 age 19.
Not sure if I am on the right track, any help appreciated.

According to the 1851+ 1841 census returns (Eng.) Harriet Gatehouse was born abt 1829 in St.Leonard Shoreditch, Middlesex.Eng.
At the same address in 1841 were Jane Gatehouse abt 1781 + Louisa abt 1786 Gatehouse both born in Middlesex.
Harriet married Henry William Morgan in Tasmania. Aust. 1852. Any clues to which branch of the tree they belong to?

I have the family of Charles Gatehouse and Mary Mead as follows: Charles b 1778? George 1778 m Edith Best. Henry 1779. William 1781 m Hannah Bussey. Clement 1782 m Dinah Raymond. Mary Anne 1783. Grace Mead 1790 m John Raymond. Silas 1796 m Harriet Hansford.
I have Charles Gatehouse b 1754 Chichester m Mary Mead 1776 Gillingham. His parents being George Gatehouse b 1718 m Mary Holmwood 1753 Arundel, Sussex. George 's 2nd marriage to Cecily ---- ? 1759 Chichester.Sussex. Hope my finding are fairly accurate.

Thank you John for your reply regarding portraits of George. It would be fabulous to have at least an electronic copy if that is at all possible. Yoiu mentioned also other family members may be able to help with some other photos. Hopefully they are internet savvy, and may be able to send eklectronic attachment. Would be very grateful. I am actually living in the Middle East at the moment, so by post is out of the question.

I am having a conflict with the parents of George, Silas, Clement and William Gatehouse, The brothers who came to Tasmania, Australia. Was there parents Charles Gatehouse and Mary Mead who married 31 July 1776 in Gillingham, Dorset or Charles Gatehouse and Mary Jeans who married 24 July 1788 Gillingham, Dorset. The marriage in 1788 doesn't seem to fit but would appreciate any help. Maybe Charles re-married?

Sorry no photos Mike. I have done some research on the Gatehouse families. My husband is a descendant of Harriet Gatehouse b abt 1829 m Henry Morgan in Tasmania 1852.
Not sure of her parentage or place of birth. Tassie or Middlesex,Eng?

Elizabeth ( Gatehouse) Toms was my Gr Gr Grandmother. Other than she married William Toms, we don't know the date. There daughter Elizabeth, b Aug 27 1857 in Buckland, Hougham Dover, married John Bromley Millington a person named Susannah Richard and William Toms were witnesses. Do you have any more information on Catherine Gatehouse

I have done some research on the gatehouse family but am anaware of a family crest. I shall have to check that one out next week when I am at the G.S.V.

My knowledge of the family extends back about 3 generations .......... hardly a tree.

I have a few generations of the Gatehouse Families of Tasmania including Clement and Dinah Raymond offspring. My earliest record of the family is the marriage of George to Mary Holwood in 1753 Sussex, Eng.

My interest is in Harriet Gatehouse b 1828/9 who married Henry William Morgan in Formby, Tas. 1852. My husband is one of their descendant.

I have more information about George including a family tree back to Charles & Mary. I cannot connect them with our side of the family yet. But I have a John having a John b.1773 can not find marriage & I know that there is a child on the Charles & Mary Gatehouse from Cucklington that would tie the two families together.

Joyce - I have very little on the Gatehouses.

I have been told that two brothers Henry and William married in Walmer. Henry married Judith Grant and William married Ann Grant.

Henry and Judith were the parents of :
Henry (b. 1816) who married Eliza Wood in 1836
Catherine Gatehouse (b. 1819) who married Richard Beer in 1835

Henry and Eliza had a son Henry (1837) married to Rosella Yelding in 1878.

Catherine and Richard Beer (my gg grandparents) were the parents of Elizabeth (1844).

IGI has information on several Gatehouses in the Dover area, although I have not, as yet, been able to connect them to my line.

Hope this is some help. Still searching.

My grandmother grew up in Tasmania. Her maiden name was Gatehouse (first name Olive). I know her mother lived in Government House Tasmania. Any information appreciated.

You sent a message regarding your wife (Gatehouse) and Clement Gatehouse. Clement Gatehouse was the grandfather of my grandmother, Olive Gatehouse. I wwas sent the Gatehouse family history some time ago, by another person on the internet. Most of it is in Tasmaniau Australia. Not sure where you are from. Would you like me to send to you as an attachment. it is quite large when you print it out. Approximately 58 pages!!!! SO well worth having.
