Allen Gatfield b 15 OCT 1857 in Fredonia, Ozaukee, WI is one of my gggrandfathers. I have photocopies of a few pictures, including a family picture taken in Kansas when Olive was maybe 10 or 12? I also have copies of Allen & Ursula's obits & photos of their monument in Emmett, ID. I would be happy to share what I have and would like to compare notes & pool resources regarding trying to find info on Allen's parents Samuel & Emmaline (sp?) and my goal of figuring out who THEIR parents were.

Hi there,
I have an Allen Gatfield in my family tree although he is the not same as yours. I am just wondering if we can find any connection as the name cannot be that common.

My Allen Gatfield was born in 1929 in Troy City, Miami, Ohio, the son of Frank Gatfield and his second wife.

Frank Gatfield originally went to the US to stay with his uncle Richard Gatfield who was based in Pittsburgh but I don't think he ever married or had descendants.

When Richard applied for his naturalisation in 1892, he applied together with a James Gatfield. Now I cannot find a relevant James Gatfield from my family tree but surely he must have been a relative. I cannot find any evidence of this James Gatfield in US either.

If you have any ideas, please let me know,

Looking for anyone connected to Douglas Gatfield born November 25, 1918. He lived in Deptford in 1940, and served in the Royal Air Force during WWII. His fathers name was Henry Arthur Gatfield, but went by the name of Harry, and I don't know what his mothers name was. Contact me if you need more info.

My ggrandmother was Annie Maria GADFIELD she was b 22 July 1865 Withington, Gloustershire, to William and Henrietta (nee Mason) William was b abt 1820 Lechlade, Gloustershire and his parents were Henry and Lucy (nee Peach). Henry was chr 24 Sep 1788 Witney, Oxfordshire.
William and Henrietta had 8 children, Annie was their 7 child. she came out to New Zealand in 1880 and married Edwin Fitzherbert Burrowes 1 Aug 1887 Christchurch NZ. They had 6 children, my grandmother Evelyn Maude was their 5 child.
Three other Gadfield children came out to NZ. Eliza, Martha & Emma all in 1879. William and Henrietta also followed arriving sometime after 1881. They both died in Christchurch NZ, William in 1905 and Henrietta in 1896

I hope you still are in touch with this message board or have the same email addy. We have a connection to the Battersea Gatfields. The one I am most interested in is the John Gatfield line, son of William and Jane (Staniford) Gatfield. John married (1) Hephzibah Ann Golding in 1861 and (2) Charlotte Phyllis Golding in 1868 after his first wife died (they were sisters). Are you by chance connected to this line?

My ggg-Grandfather was David Gatfield, who then changed his name to Gadfield, and named all his children Gadfield. I would love to take back our family as far back as possible, but it seems like I'm at a dead end right now. According to census' and state verification by children's death cert. David was born in NY around 1817. I know who he married, and the date of marriage, and the rest of the tree from then to now. My father was Raymond Gatfield, born 1923. His mother was Henrietta Gatfield, born 1899.

I have some state records for other Gatfield ancestors including Harry Gatfield, son of Henry and Mary; Charles Gatfield, also son of Henry and Mary; Henry Gatfield, a silversmith and son of Edward Gatfield and Sarah Jacobus.

My Gatfield line came to Queensland in 1860's. They originally came from Hackney, London about 1810,and Battersea in Surrey, England.
Unless you can trace yourGATFIELD's back to UK I don't think we have a connection. But you never know. Garry Gatfield of Brisbane in Qld Australia is collecting worldwide GATFIELD information. He is not related to our GATFIELD family to my knowledge.
At least we have not as yet found a connection.

GADFIELD / GATFIELD

I have been researching the GADFIELD line in Oxfordshire, England. The name goes through various spelling commencing with Thomas GATEFYLD marrying Margarett GOODE at North Leigh , Oxfordhsire in 1584. I have been able to tie in the majority of the Oxfordshire occurences of the name to the tree.

After several generations the family finally settled in Witney Oxfordshire in 1695 with a Henry GADFIELD and Elizabeth MILINTON who had married the earlier that year at Bloxham, Oxfordshire. The family contniued there until the mid-1800's when one branch moving to Gloucestershire and part of this line going to New Zealand. A second branched remained in Witney until 1870's beofre moving to Lancashire.

Before 1584 I think the family might have moved from Worcestershire weher they had been established for at least a hundred years before this and continuued to populate around there and over the border into Gloucestershire.

I would love to here from any one that might have connections to any of these branches.

Richard Gatfield

I think that my great great uncle Richard Gatfield could have emigrated to USA. I have him located in the UK 1881 census in Berkshire, born 1859 in Bagshot, Surrey, he was a gardener. I have now found an entry on the passenger list of the Campania a Richard Gatfield in September 1894. The age fits and the occupation too. I then find an entry in a Pennsylvania census for 1910 a Richard Gatfield aged 51, born in England. Does not look as though he was married, he was living with the Nourster family, Lewis (the head) was born in Germany but the wife and children were local.
Has anyone any information on this Richard Gatfield?
My Gatfield branch in England is in Surrey (Bagshot and Kingston) and as I work back I am going to Hampshire.....
