Hi,

I finally found George Edward Gath thru the social security death index after sending for 5 other Georges. His father was William, married Fanny Hopkins and they came from Yorkshire England. Have tons of information on the Gaths if anyone out there has ancestors from that area. Took me awhile but once I found him I could go backwards. We have our family listed on ancestry, com under GATH/HUSKINSON
Thanks for answering the post.
Joanne

Hi,
Augustus Gath and Caroline Glay had were my great-great grandparents. Their daughter Sophia was my great-grandmother. She married a Grandstadt and had two daughters. Her husband died so she married his brother and had 8 more children one of them was my grandmother. Her name was Louisa Christena Graunstadt. Her daughter is my mother. She is 92 years old. This is just a little of the family history. How are you related to the Gaths?

Susan

She married John Howard in 1854 and on her marriage cert she lists her address as Marlborough Street, Leeds and her fathers name as Joseph Gath who's occupation is Cloth Dresser.
I am talking with a cousin (Paul Gath) who said that we are related to the GATH family that founded the company you mentioned. He saw your post and asked me to get in-touch with you. I live in Texas. He still lives in England and has memories of his grandfather talking about the Gath Family. There is still one of Uriah's granddaughter's alive, Violet Gath (b.1927). She has shared pictures from back in the 1910's!
Do you have a "Uriah Gath" in your tree? What are some names in your tree, we can trace to?

Matthew Gath (b.1780)
Matthew Gath (b. 1804)
URIAH GATH (b. 1852) -1st wife Ann Dodgshun (my gr gr grandparents)
URIAH GATH (b. 1852) - 2nd wife - Elizabeth Dixon (Paul Gath's gr gr grandparents)

Have studied the Australian Gaths quite extensively and can't work out where you fit in. Samuel Gath and family (many children) came out to Victoria in 1850s and settled near Maldon. They came from Tiverton, Devon, England.Children spread out and some ended up in Queensland. We are definitely related to trotting Gaths. I am descended from eldest child.Look forward to hearing of your connection.
Fay Mannes

Greetings ~

I'm trying to research my great grandmother, Jane Gath Buckley's family. She was born in Dewsbury in March 1877, I believe she may have had a sister name Florrie.

Ggrandmother married my ggrandfather in 1898; they lived on Gilderson Street, York, West Riding. I've also found Matthew and John Gath who were young males on the 1901 Census. John was 14 and Matthew was 17, any relation?

Hello ~ My name is Patricia Buckley Pugh ~
My grandaddy was Lionel Buckley, born 1901; his mother was Jane Gath Buckley, born in Dewsbury in March 1877.

I'm wondering if there's any relation to your family?

Recently I found another name that we think is possibly related to Jane ~ Florrie Sykes who lived in Middleton Grove, Morley in 1945.

Grandaddy Lionel came to America in the early 1900's after his mother, Jane Gath Buckley died. Lionel went back to Morley in 1945 to visit, had a cerebral hemmorage and died in Morley.
The newspaper article stated that Lionel was over visiting family and mentioned "Florrie Sykes". We don't know if that was Jane's sister or possibly Lionel's half-sister. Lionel's dad, William married in 1914 (after Jane's death).

I have been searching for my father GEORGE EDWARD GATH for over 40 years with no luck. Everytime I come close the door slams. He was born around 1906 , his birthplace is listed as UPSTATE NEW YORK on my birth certificate and also on the marraige license. His occupation on my birth certificate says DEFENSE WORKER,however on the marraige license it lists CHEF. May have been in the ARMY AIR CORPS and i believe my mother and he met while working at the CORNHUSKER AMMUNITIONS PLANT , located in GRAND ISLAND NEBRASKA in 1944. Last trace i have of his whereabouts is ATLANTIC CITY NJ 1944. He left my mother after 3 months of marraige and all she said to me about him was that he ran off to FLORIDA with another woman. Any help would be much appreciated. I keep running into dead-ends.
Thank you very much
Sincerely
Joanne Parsons

Hope I dod'nt already answer this. The name originates at least to the time of the biblical story of David & Gollith. Other info suggests that there was a king Gath & a city of Gath where David & Gollith fought. Good luck getting that far bach but somewhere in time we must have migrated to Euorpe. Did we go to Germany 1st or England 1st is a good question. Today there are more Gaths in Germant than anywhere else, but if you combine England, Australia, and United States, we have considerably the bigest number. Hope this helps!

My Grand Father was Fred G (Garfield) Gath born in Nebraska in 1881. His Father is listed in the '30 census as comming from New York, while the Mother is listed as comming from Ilonois. So far there is no breaking this ice and I can not proceed farther back than 1881. Fred G Gath did a younger brother that liked in Pleaston New Jersey & possibly also in Marlyland. I beleive he died in Florida (which I don't have the date at my finger-tips). Anyone with info would be more than appreciated hearing from at rlgath@earthlink.net.
-- Tks
