known as coco gathe in the mid 1800s was part of the reason the vigilantes of vermilionville organized. he was run out of town along with my ancestors. they took his land.....legend has it he was part of the jean lafitte navy from caragena, columbia. he fathered two large families with two french sisters and was part of the organized crime wave of the 1800s in the lafayette area, housed in the praire maroon/area the center of privateers and pirates and illegal activites. the early residents of lafayette banded together and ran him out of town...this is documented by an eyewitness named Alexandre Bard in his later translated book. i read it in the library. some things matches what has been orally handed down to me in my family...
