The following is my extraction of one deposition in the file of the above named chancery cause. I would really like to learn as much as I can about this particular William Gathright. Can anyone tell me about him?

Littleberry Baughan was living in the general area of Three Chopt Road/Deep Run Creek/Short Pump at the time of this deposition. Can anyone tell me if this particular William Gathright was also living in that area at this time? How is he related to the Gathrights of the Boar Swamp area?

Goochland County Chancery Cause 1791-002
John Neaves v William Gathright

The Deposition of Littleberry Baughan of Lawfull age in a suit of Chancery Depending in Goochland Court betwen (sic) John Neaves pltf & Wm Gathright Deft

Deposeth & sayeth that some time after the suit for Slander was determined betwen (sic) Wm Garthright & Wm Neaves that the sd Baughan fell in Discourse with John Neaves at Benjamin Smoots concerning the suit betwen his Brother Wm & Wm Garthright for the sd Baughan told John Neaves he heard that his brother Wm had cast Gathright in the suit of Slander & had thrown all the Costs of the suit on Him, which the sd John Neaves said was true & that the suit of Slander now Depining(?) tuteoin(?) the sd Gathright & himself he would not put it up on any terms for he was certain to cast him & make him pay all Costs as his Brother had done for he was able to prove facts by a number of Witnesses against the sd Garthright That would make him look as Black as midnight, but he said he was sorry for Garthrights children that they should suffer on his account of that they should have such an Old Villain for their father as Gathright was for they Were a parcel of likely Children & the sd Baughan further sayeth that the sd Gathright is a very kind neighbour, Just & honest in his dealings & his word much to be Depended on & do believe him to be as honest a man as any in Henrico County. & the sd Baughan further sayeth that he worked for Robert H. Sanders at the time that Sanders fell out with Gathright on account of the land that he had purchased of Gathright that did belong to Burwell Baugh & said he was very sorry for it & that he never Should have Broke his agreement with Gathright for the land had he not ben parsuaided to do it by Hezekiah Puryear? & further this Deponent saith not.
Littel Berry Baughan

Henrico County to wit:

Sworn to before in me in due form before us magistrates for the said county by virtue of a commission to us directed which we have annexed to the Deposition of John Miller – Given under our hands this 1st Nov 1790 --- Tho.
I see this is an old post, but since I just got my results today, and since there is a Jesse Parnell Gathright from southern Arkansas [and I think Georgia before that] on my maternal side, I thought I would attempt contact. Let me know if you are interested in comparing notes / DNA. Thanks! Dale Murphy

I don't have much to add here. I am related to the Gathrights, Pooles, Cravens, and Johnstons buried at Good Hope Cemetery. I was not aware that James C. was buried there, but Mary E. is said to be the first person buried at Good Hope. Location of the grave is unknown. I grew up in the area and have visited this and other local cemeteries many times. I would be glad to give directions or show anyone where it is. In fact, I plan to visit next week.

Looking for the parents of Alexander Childress b. 1751 who married 11-8-1917 Francis Warriner and Joseph Childress who married Elizabeth Warriner (widow of Parker was Elizabeth Gathright)married 2-13-1800 These two may be brothers but from these marriages comes by grandparents Joseph Childress and Elizabeth Childress (Elizabeth was left property in Henrico county from her mother on White Oak Swamp) Anyone have anything - it is a bundle of intermarriages with people showing up several times in different trees for me!! They have to be a link to the first Childress. Oh as see Truman, Gill, and property which they lived on from old land grant from John Pleasants. Thank you for any info you may have to help me find my way out of this maze!!Marie

please if you use this info.. do NOT post anything about the Thompson... they ARE NOT RELATED TO US..
my father usually took in Charity cases (usually women) who needed assistance and that he thought he could help.. she was one of them.. in the previous year.. he kept her from dying (she nearly did from pancreatitis) and helped her by giving her a place to stay as a quest so that she could get back on her feet.. she has chosen to muddy his name since his death so we have chosen to ignore her..
also.. to you out there who like to post your data..as a curtisy please don't post assembled trees with the info on the living.. this creates problems.. and some don't like it (my sister for one). I try not to.. and remove any info if it is found to have made it on my site. I will share with other researchers with the assumption that they wont post it either.. but lately. newbies are publishing online and it gives those of irreputable practices info they have no business having to do illegal things.
thanks for understanding.
C

Hi, glad you found this board. I am sure we are related, I am a direct descendant from the Rev. Miles Garthwaite, his family migrated from Lincolnshire England to Virginia about 1610-15. The family grew and moved south into the Carolina's and Georgia. Some went to Ky. Obideah Fox Gathright settled in Miss. My gggrandmother was Sarah "Sally" Gathright, she was born in Marion Ga. and married Morel Smith, my gggrandfather. They had several children and then followed Sally's parents to southern Ark and La. Morel and Sally finally settled in Union Parish, La. This is just a brief tip of the iceberg for you. I have a lot of info on the Gathrights. There are a lot of cousins researching the family. E-mail me some time, and I will help as much as I can.
donsmith@baou.com
Thanks.....Don smith
Questions about Mary Elizabeth (Parnell) Gathright and Mary A. (Smith) Gathright

I am interested in the circumstance surrounding the birth and death of Mary Elizabeth (Parnell) Gathright and Mary A. (Smith) Gathright. According to the popularly available data both of these Mary Gathrights were born in Georgia in 1799. They also died on the same day, July 10, 1858. Were they involved in an accident? Does anyone know why James “Miles” Madison Gathright married a woman the same age as his mother? Is there any source information for this data? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

James Collins Gathright and his wife, Mary Elizabeth (Parnell) Gathright, are said to be buried at the Good Hope Cemetery in Union County, Arkansas. I have not visited the cemetery myself, but several Gathrights have reported that they are buried there. I have corresponded with several Gathrights that have visited the cemetery and no grave markers exist. Apparently their markers have long since disappeared (not surprising considering they were buried almost 150 years ago) or their graves were never marked. I am interested in the circumstance surrounding their demise; they died about one month apart and Mary died on the same day as her daughter-in-law Mary A. (Smith) Gathright, July 10, 1858. I wonder if there was an accident.

I have had a Gathright family tree up on RootsWeb and Gen Circles for sometime now. For those that are interested please take a look:

http://www.gencircles.com/users/fistofsouth/2
My Gen Circles site

http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=fistofsouth72
My RootsWeb site

Both sites contain the same data, but I recommend viewing the Gen Circles site because it doesn’t have any annoying pop-ups and I personally think it has a better format. If you have information to share or questions regarding the Gathright/Garthwaite family please contact me at the email address provided on my family tree (currently cgathright@firstam.com ).

DATA: Gathright, Margaret Elizabeth listed in 1929 Richmond, VA yearbook

DATA Message RE: The Marshallite, 1929 John Marshall High School yearbook (Richmond, VA).

This yearbook lists the members of the Senior class of 1929, faculty members, members of the Corps of Cadets, and many members of various clubs (not all). Unfortunately, it does not list the names of the members of the Junior, Sophomore or Freshmen classes (only officers listed for those classes). It includes the following name(s):

Gathright, Margaret Elizabeth (Duck)

There's over 1,900 records, so I've only listed the name(s), as it appears in the yearbook in this message.

If you would like to view all of the information that I extracted from the yearbook, I have uploaded it to my freepages genealogy web site. The link to the first page of these extracts on my web site is:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/family/r...

Or it can be accessed through the "General Research" link on the main page at:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

Please note that my site contains free genealogy related data & IS NOT a "commercial" or "advertising" site. Until I can get back out & do research on my own families, my hobby is posting free genealogy related data online that may help other reseachers. I put all kinds of genealogy information on my web site (including information others send to me to share on the site), not just data about the families I am researching (therefore I can't answer questions about everyone I have listed on the site). I hope the information I've put online helps someone with their research . . .

Susan :)
Sassytazzy's Online Genealogy Research Library
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

Hi K.,
I am glad to be a help. I have all my stuff on the Family Tree Maker software program, I really like it. I can run the program while on the internet. I can check info as I go along. If you will e-mail me your address, I will send you a printed copy or disk 3 1/2" of the family file, which ever one you would like. We are all time looking for new family members to be added. We would like to add James Dorsey's to our files. This family just keeps growing. P.D. Gathright made a statement long before his death, that all Gathrights in the U.S. are related, no matter how the spelling is.
Now my biggest problem, finding Morel Smith's ancestors. I can't seem to get any further than him, I know he was born in Marion, Ga. in 1823, moved to Louisiana in 1854, then poof during the Civil War, he is gone. No records of any type. If you hear or see anything that might help me, please let me know.

Thanks..... Don

Hi Chris,
I did not find you or your dad in my files. There is no doubt that we are kin. It seems that all the Gathrights and descendants are related. Can you give me some other details, like who was your grandfather, great grandfather. There is one common ancestor that we have been able to trace back to, Miles Garthwaite b. 1576 in England. Garthwaite was the orginal spelling and has been changed a number of times thru our history. If you can come up with anything else, please email me. donsmith@bayou.com

Happy hunting!
Hi K.,
Just got home from work, found your msg. I think you will like the Family Tree Maker program. I started out with the first version that came out, and upgraded to 4.0. Would like to get the newest, but i'm a little short on funds right now.
I believe the one you are talking about is going to be P.D. Gathright, he was in business in Little Rock for a number of years. His son Morrell Gathright lives in Pine Bluff, Ark. I have visited he and his wife there and also seen both at a reunion in Strong, Ark. in Aug. '97. Another cousin, Carolyn Gathright came down from California for a visit, we had about 35 people to show up. Had a nice time. P.D. started tracing the family years ago, and even made a trip to Grantham England to visit the church that Rev. Miles Garthwaite was a rector. He took a picture of it and the marker out front, it does have Miles's name listed on it. The church is still standing and in use today.
Any time you need help, call me Monday thru Friday at 318/263-7434. I am there from 8 am to 12 pm. You can e-mail me at donsmith@bayou.com. If you don't get me there, call after 4 pm @ 318/263-2215, my home number is 318/263-8389.
Looking foward to hearing from you.....

Don Smith

Hi Shawn,
Nice to hear from you, most likely we are kin folks. All the info on the Gathright family indicates that all branches are kin to each other. The family name began in England with the spelling "Garthwaite" and as the family migrated to America, the spelling changed, Garthwrite, Garthwyte, Gathwrite, Gatheright, Garthright and now Gathright.
Tho I am a Smith, my 2nd greatgrandmother was a Gathright.
I checked my records for the names that you give me, I did not locate them. That does not mean we are not related, there are still some branches that have not been added. If you can provide any additional info, I will be more than happy to help you locate them.
Hope to hear from you soon.

Don Smith
Hi Joyce,
I believe most of the Gathrights and Mozley's were from Twiggs, Clarke, Marion and Jackson counties in Ga. That is where I have found most of them. They first came from Va. Sarah is a g-g-ggreat aunt to me. She is James Collins Gathrights' half sister, and a ggggreatfather to me. If you look in the Family Tree Maker web site, Carolyn Gathright has the entire family on her web page. I do have other info on the family if you need it. Let me hear from you soon. Have a good day.....Don
