We promise to pay, on the first day of January next, to Rebecca J. Gatling the sum of One hundred twenty dollars for the hire of a certain negro man named Henry for the present year - said negro is to remain in Northampton County and not to work on the low-grounds of Roanoke, in Occoneeohii(?) Neck nor on any public works. We also promise to furnish him with a hat, blanket, two pair of shoes and other usual clothing. Witness our hands and seal this January 2nd 1860.

I think Rebecca may be the wife of Charles Gatling? Where did they live in Northampton County? What happened to Henry after the civil war?
