This is an old thread--don't know if anyone is still on this, but there are a lot of Richard Gatrells in the family. My father-in-law was Clyde Richard, my BIL is Richard, he had a cousin with that name, etc. Very popular name with the Gatrell family.
My email address is d.gatrell@gmail.com
Dee

Hello, it's a while since you posted your message, so you may already have this information. I'm sorry to disappoint you but the Kate GATRELL who was the daughter of Frank GATRELL and Fanny JUPE married Cyril SMITH in 1919. She is not the one who married Walter MACKETT.

Janet

Hello, it's a long time since you posted your message, so I hope you are still researching this family.

My husband is descended from Martha and Fanny JUPE's sister Caroline JUPE and I have done some research on this family. If you are interested, I have the obituaries for Kate SMITH (nee GATRELL) and her sister Ellen. I have not found any record for Stanley other than the 1901 census entry.

Janet

I am researching my family tree and Frank Gatrell's first wife, Martha Jupe was the sister of Fanny Jupe. Fanny was widowed with a six year old daughter, also Fanny, and lived with Martha and Frank in 1891. After Martha died she became his housekeeper, although we can find no record, we understand they married and had children named Stanley,Ellen and Kate.(from 1901 census)

Help needed with Sydney Albert Gattrell b1877-1881? Hounslow

I cannot find any census or birth records for Sydney Albert Gattrell b 1877-1881? and I would be very grateful if anyone can help, According to his service book he joined the army in 1895 at the age of 18:
Name: Sydney Gattrell
Enlisted; East Surrey Regiment
Date: 25 Nov 1895

He married in Westbourne in 1905 and according to his marriage certificate he was aged 24 - so there is a 4 year difference in his age. We think his father's name was John and was possibly based in the Hounslow Barracks (also in the army?), but cannot find any mention of either in the 1891, 1881, 1871, 1861 censuses. Does anyone have any further infomation on him?

Thank, Rachel

Do you
know of any Bowling/Allred connections to the Gartell's?
Secondly, do you know where in South Carolina James
W. Gartell comes from?

It is known in the early years that neighbors may be
relatives and in Lawrence we find some of them are
and can be related; the Allred's, Wood's and Terry
lines.

I appreciate your post as it helps us in research.

Thank you very much.

Thanks for that list, which helped me to find the children of George and Harriet in it. Frederick George GATERELL married Annie F. They had a son BERTRAM GATERELL ca. 1888. They were in Walsall, Staffs in 1901, running a coffee shop. HENRY CHARLES GATERELL married SERINA KATE SMITH in 1893. They had a daughter SERINA GATERELL soon after, or before. They were in Hove, Sussex in 1901, in the confectionery business. SYDNEY JOHN GATERELL married KEZIAH BRADLEY in 1898. They lived in Bournemouth in 1901. Keziah had a lodging house.
Now I want to know what happened to their children.

This is what I know about this particular Gaterell family: George Gaterell was born ca 1836 In Chichester, Hampshire. He married Harriet Keen of Wiltshire in London, 1861. Their children Clara Keen and Frederick G were born in Yorkshire ca 1863 and 1864. Then Harriet Ann was born in Ringwood, Hampshire in 1867. Henry Charles was born there in 1870, and Sydney John in 1872. I don't find these children in the 1901 census, except for Clara, married to Ernest Waller by then.
Could you find out where your grandfather Leslie came from? Gaterell is pretty rare in England, and most of them come from London, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire (all down in the southeast). Your grandfather was born around 1914, so I don't suppose Clara Gaterell Waller was his mother but she might have been an aunt or a cousin. Can he tell you who his aunts and uncles were?
Lorna

There is one family of Gaterell's in Canada.

Leslie Gaterell, my Grandfather, immigrated to Canada approx. 50 years ago. He is currently 90 years old, and living in Ontario. I am a daughter of one of his 2 son's, Mike Gaterell. I'm afraid that I don't know very much about the family history, other than the fact that all Gaterell's in Canada are directly related to Leslie.

Let me know if you are interested in pursuing this branch of the tree, and I will see if I can provide you with further contacts.

Dee;

My grandmother's name was Crisse Kathleen Gatrell. She married Romeo Freer Hill. She was born June 9, 1907. I know she had a brother named Howard Preston Gatrell. He married Margaret Mary Evans Chambers. Thats all I have on him. My great grandparents on that side are listed as George Willaim Gatrell and Lora Mason. I don't have any dates on him, but I have her dates as Born October 29 , 1869 and Died on September 4, 1947. She was born in Pennsboro and died in Cameron, WV.

Any information that you can give me will be greatly appreciated. I can't seem to get this side going at all.

There was also a George W. Gatrell married to a Mary E. ? There children were Jeanette Gatrell, married twice. Once to a Lyons and then to a Antill; May Gatrell, married to a Blake; Fay Gatrell, married to a Logston; and an Effie Gatrell, born 1881 in St. Mary's, WV and died December 14, 1889 also in St. Mary's. Thats all I have on these people. But I do know that they were aunts of my Grandmother.

My e-mail address is hillramona@yahoo.com. She married a Mitchell, and had a daughter Daisy Mitchell ca 1890.
Am also trying to trace a Gatrell. He was married to a Pettifer quite near to Emsworth Hampshire in England. I married their younger daughter Gill (we have since divorced) in 1960. Since our divorce my ex. wife has found half brothers and sisters in Dorset, which she knew nothing about. I am trying to find out if Alfred John Gatrell ever divorced Mary Nelly Louise Pettifer.
Can you help? Is there a connection?.

Researching Bowling lines and have a G. C. (or J. C. )
Gatrell living next door to my ancestors. Was curious
to know if there may be a relation to the Bowling family.

On the 1870 Lawrence County Alabama census it shows
G. C. Gatrell age 20 farmer. He is living in his own
household with no wife or children. To the census here
he would have been born about 1850. The first letter
in the initials is difficult to read.

His neighbors are:

R. B. (Reece) Porter - Physician
Joseph Hobbs - Farmer
William Alread (Allred) - Farmer
Henry Boling - Farmer
A. P. Boling - Farmer
Joseph A. J. Wood - Farmer
(Living in the same houshold of the Woods is
James Odom.)
William Crawford Sherrod - M.C. & Farmer
Dennard Wood - Farmer
Alfred Byrd
William Cameron
Isabella Sherrod (Possibly formerly Wood)

I would be interested to hearing of any relation between
the Gatrell's and our Bowling/Wood lines.

Bowling, Wood, Huddleston, Scott, Allred, and
Sizemores tie into the Bowling lines.

Thank you.

My grandmother was Jeanette Gatrell. I don't know much about her family. She was my grandfather's second wife. I never knew my father's mother and Jeanette was the only grandmother I ever knew on my father's side. My grandfather's name was Harry C. Antel of McDonald PA. Jeanette went to live with some of her children after my grandfather died. She was a sweet, loving woman and took very good care of Granddad and all of his children. My father can probably help with this a little. Jeanette was related to his mother through the Lyons.

Edna (Doak) Stockley, sp. W. H. Stockley. Resided San Bernardino CA from 1930's . Edna's possible siblings are Mary Doak b. 1922 and Wesley Doak b. 1916.
Taylor relatives Sopheronia R. Taylor, b. 17 Mar 1860, her sp. Zachariah C. Taylor b. 22 July 1870 d. 14 Feb1917, possibly in Kansas. Also Verna Taylor Doak who homesteaded in 1872. References to Lee E. Taylor, and Ledah Taylor, William B. Rogers.

I have a family photo album, circa late 1800's to 1930's - 1940, that belonged to Mrs Edna Stockley. There are wonderful old photos, some mounted on hard board, some glued to the old black photo album paper. Many are photos processed as postcards. I am trying to get the postcards away from the paper pages, as there are messages underneath on most of them..

I would like to return in to family members. If I can't find them, I will try to preserve them. I have no ancestors photos, and I"ve looked at these for so long, I've about adopted them. If there are any descendants of these families, email me.

He first married a Mary Ann Relf, who died, and then he married an Ellen Dungey or Dungley in Biddenden in 1859. I am shortly going to obtain marriage certs, and hopefully this will link into your tree going back to Thomas.
I have not managed to work out the Gatrell/ Kedwell link so would love to share info if interested?

Kind Regards
Terri
.
