Classification: Query
Surnames: CAMPBELL, CHRISTIAN, CORBIN, FLEMMING, GAUNT, GIVENS, ROBERTSON/ROBINSON....
Hi All,
I've been working on my husband's GAUNT/CORBIN, VA line and discovered this information;
"As a result of the trouble with the Indians, Col. William CHRISTIAN, Capt. Wm. CAMPBELL & Capt. William RUSSELL returned to their homes from the regular continental army to assist with the defense of their homes from the combination of attacks from the British and Indians. The Gov. of VA at this time directed by Col. Wm FLEMMING, Botetourt Co., to dispatch a body of the militia to the frontiers of Fincastle for the protection of the inhabitants, and pursuant to this order, Capt. Thomas ROWLAND was dispatched w/his company to the frontiers. The following is a complete list of Capt. Rowland's company:"
Capt. Thomas Rowland's Company (I only copied a partial list)
George GIVENS
James CLOYD
William HENRY
James GAUNT (Henry SMITH & Joseph CARROL next to James)
Edward CARBIN
James McQUON
James ROBINSON
Samuel BLAIR
David HARBINSON
1776 at the time of the Battle of Long Island Flats a man named LEWIS w/his wife & 7 children lived in the bounds of what is now Scott Co. He was informed by Capt. John REDD of an Indian war & was on the warpath and told to go the settlements. LEWIS thought the Indians would not find him. The Indians scalped and killed the entire family.

I have a George GIVENS, f/o Sarah GIVENS m Abraham MILLER. Abraham's sister, Hannah, m Isaac ROBERTSON/ROBINSON. This ROBERTSON is a family connection.
I have a John CLOYD with a GIST connection, possibly connected to my TN ROBERTSON/ROBINSON line.
I have a William HENRY m Isabella McKEOWN, connected to my ROBERTSON/ROBINSON line.
Could Edward CARBIN be a CORBIN?
I, also, located this information;
2nd Brigade
Brig. Gen. HUNTON commanding, -- 19th VA Infantry, Col. GAUNT...

Does anyone know who this James GAUNT could be? Also, who is Col. GAUNT?
Thanks,
Linda Cashen GAUNT
