Hi There,
Try looking under Wexler. My husband was Gary Waxler. His grandfather told him that when the when the Wexler's came to the U.S. they changed the spelling of their name so that no one would suspect that they were Jewish. Some might have changed their name's in Germany. Hope this helps.

Alcidie S. Waxler

LUCIEN GAUTREAUX . Died 4/1917, Church Point, LA
BLOW ON HEAD WITH HOE BRINGS DEATH TO YOUTH

Clabert Latiolais surrendered to Sheriff Fontenot Sunday morning and was placed in the parish jail, where he remained for thirty minutes until a bond of $5000. was raised for his release. He is charged with delivering a blow on the head of LUCIEN GAUTREAUX that caused his death. The skull was fractured and death followed several hemorrhages of the brain.

Friday the Latiolais and Gautreaux youths were in the stable on the farm of the father of Latiolais when an argument came up which was followed by a fist fight. As told to the representative of the Signal, young Gautreaux picked up a singletree and started toward Latiolais. The latter returned the assault with a hoe, felling the young Gauthreaux with a blow to the head.

Saturday night Gautreaux died as a result of the wounds after he had suffered several hemorrhages of the brain.

Sunday morning Latiolais, in company with his father, came to Crowley and surrended to the sheriff. This occurred on the Latiolais farm near Church Point. Latiolais is 18 years of age and Gautreaux was 16 years old. The latter was employed on the farm of Latiolais’ father.

Sunday Coroner Frances held an inquest with the verdict that death was the result of a blow on the head delivered by Gautreaux (sic).

Crowley Signal April 23, 1917

Jesse (buried in Morgan City died in late sixties or early 70's I believe) had sisters named Sara, Katherine and Julia Maitland. One of the Schools in Morgan City is named after one of them (perhaps Julia). Sara and Katherine never married and made their home on front street across from the park. I was married to their Nephew John Sr. (we are divorced) He is one of 4 sons and a daughter of Orion Maitland Gautreaux and Marguerite Blouin nee Gautreaux. My daughter Bonnie will probably contact you with more as this is her project.

Clement GUTTRO (Gautreau, Gautreaux, Gauthreaux)

ANYONE LOOK FAMILIAR?

THIS IS MY RESEARCH SO FAR, I'VE

>>Gone to Vital Records in New Orleans and tried to purchase a copy of Clement Guttro's birth certificate and was told it was too old and there was probably no record of his birth since it want required. Tried to get death certificate and was told it was too old--was referred to State Archives.
>>Went to State Archives in Baton Rouge to search for his death record since it was older than 100 years old. (I may need to go back since I was checking GUTTRO only at that time)
>>Searched census records in New Orleans. (Found him living in New Orleans in 1870.
>>Searched marriage indexes, found him married to Ellen Davis in New Orleans in 1868.
>>Searched census records in St. James Parish and found his widow in 1900.
>>Searched St. James Parish marriage index and found him married to Lucy Bowling (Bolding) in 1890.
>>Went to St. Michael's cemetery in St. James parish and asked church secretary for burial records or sexton's records. (They don't keep anything that old--referred me to Catholic life center in Baton Rouge.
>>Was sparred a trip to Baton Rouge. (found out over the phone that they are not open to the public) Researcher check her books for a death and also for a baptism and found neither.
>>Received documents from the National Archives stating that Clement entered the war of 1861-65 (civil) as a private in 1864, served at Fort Livingston, was wounded, and was honorable discharged at Baton Rouge, LA. 1867.
>>Same documents are secondary records naming his widow and children as legal heirs. It lists their names and her name.
>>Same documents refer to him as Reverend Clement Guttro.

I would like to find out his correct(smile) birth and death date and his parents. Am I crazy?
>>

All I can find right now is ssn# information
It says his ssn# 436-24-6523 doesn't say where he was born, but he was born Oct. 13, 1882 and he passed away July 1969 in Covington,La. They have it that he lived
there. I found a Henry Mitchel Gautreaux born Dec. 8, 1874 and died Nov. 28, 1928 in
Assumption Parrish, La. I would wonder if
they were related and maybe start looking in
Assumption Parrish. You can request ssn#
information and maybe it shows who his parents are. But Assumption Parrish should
have a birth record.

Hope this helps,

Sherri
