"Mrs. Gay, 89, formerly of Farmville, NC died August 24, 2005 at White Oak Manor in Charlotte, NC.
The funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2005 at Farmville United Methodist Church with the Reverend James Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Hollywood Cemetery in Farmville. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 at the Farmville Funeral Home.
Olive Gay was born in Pitt County on May 23, 1916, a daughter of the late Samuel Taylor Lewis and Effie Joyner Lewis. She is survived by a son, Dr. Melvin L. Gay, Jr. and his wife, Dail Harris Gay, of Charlotte; a granddaughter, Lesley Gay Shroyer and her husband, David of Braintree, MA; a great-granddaughter, Kailyn Dail Shroyer; two sisters, and many nieces and nephews including, Louise Woods and her husband, Dick of Charlotte.
Memorials may be made to Farmville United Methodist Church, 4588 West Church Street, Farmville, NC 27828.
The family wishes to offer a special thank you to the staff of White Oak Manor for their love and care.
Arrangements are in the care of Farmville Funeral Home in Farmville, NC and Hankins & Whittington, Dilworth Chapel, Charlotte."
