FRANKLIN COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA DEED ABSTRACTS, 1779 - 1797, by Joseph W. Watson, publ. 1984

Deed Book 1

p. 124 - - John GAY of Franklin Co. planter, to Abraham Rogers of same, March 18, 1780, for 500 pds., a tract of 100 acres on the south side of Flat

Rock Creek, it being part of a tract of land that Nathaniel Carter obtained by deed in 1762 and includes the plantation whereon Edward Hathcock once lived. Wits: Thos. Jones, Thos. GAY, James Lassister.

p. 126 - - John GAY of Franklin Co. to Thos. Jones of same, March 15, 1780, for 1,200 pds., a tract of 150 acres on the east side of the Cypress Swamp, adjoining said Jones, Thos. GAY and the widow Denby, it being the land and plantation formerly granted by deed from Thos. GAY to John GAY. Luviesey GAY, wife of John GAY, also signed the deed. Wits: Tadrick Jones, Samuel Denby.

p. 148 - - Allen GAY of Richmond Co. Georgia to John Green of Nash Co., N.C.

for 100 pds. specie, a tract of 140 acres in Franklin Co. on th east side of

Cypress Swamp begininng at the mouth of the Little Creek on the west side thereof and adjoining Denson. Wits: R.D. Timberlake, William GAY, Joel Moody. (not dated but all the deeds on this page are in 1785 and 1786.)

p. 152 - - Elias GAY of Franklin Co. to William Brinkley Junr. of Halifax Co. N.C., June 4, 1785, for 50 pds current money, a tract of 400 acres on the Little Creek and up a branch adjoining Moody and Moses Stallings, including the plantation whereon said Elias GAY now lives. Wits: Thomson Curry, Oskey Hunt (female).

p. 143 - - Elias GAY of Franklin Co. to James Massie of same, March 28, 1785, for 80 pds. a tract of 400 acres on the Little Creek and up a branch adjoining Moody and Moses Stallings' plantation, including the plantation whereon said Elias GAY now lives, it being the plantation deeded by Kintchen

Primm to said Elias GAY. Wits: Philemon Meroney, James Primm, William GAY.

p. 54 - - Joshua GAY of Franklin Co. to Hardy Hunt of same, June 10, 1787, for 30 pds. a tract of 32 acres lying on the north side of the Great branch adjoining Thos. Jones, Thos. GAY and the line between Joshua GAY and William

GAY. Wits: Sion Hunt, Abe Hunt.

p. 91 - - Thomas GAY of Franklin Co. to Thos. RAY (?) of same, Oct. 4, 1787,

for 50 pds. specie, a tract of 73 acres lying on both sides of Mockeson Swamp adjoining Stricklin and Price (or Pierce?). Wits: Moses Upchurch, James Price, Charles Upchurch.

p. 173 - - William GAY of Franklin Co. to Hardy Hunt of same, April 12, 1788, for 60 pds. VA hard money, a tract of 100 acres beginning on Little Creek in Thomas Jones' line, thence down said creek to Cypress Swamp adjoining Joshua GAY. Wits: Sion Hunt, John Hunt, Josiah Jackson.

p. 187 - - Joshua GAY of Franklin Co. to Hardy Hunt of same, Feb. 27, 1788, for 50 pds. specie, a tract of 50 acres on Cypress Swamp at the mouth of the

Great Branch adjoining Hardy Hunt and William GAY. Wits: Sion Hunt, Alese Hunt, Wm. GAY.

p. 198 - - Rolland (Roling) Fitts of Wake Co. N.C., bill of sale to Thomas GAY of Franklin Co., Jan. 20, 1789, for 124 pds. specie, my negro wench named Silvey. Wits: Jesse Hammond, Charles Upchurch.

p. 237 - - Jesse Weathers of Franklin Co., bill of sale to Thomas GAY of same, Jan. 18, 1790, for 75 pds. specie, one negro boy named Ned, about ten years of age. Wits: Richard Upchurch, Obadiah Strickland.

John Pearce of same, Feb. 14, 1794, for 50 (?) a tract of 160 acres adjoining Thomas GAY and Moses Upchurch. Wits: Moses Upchurch, Thomas GAY.

p. 171 - - Phillip Pearce of Franklin Co. to James Pearce of same, Feb. 7, 1794, for five pds. Va. money, a parcel of 16 acres lying on the waters of Mockerson Creek adjoining James Pearce. Wits: B. Wheler, Thomas Ray, Thomas GAY.

p. 176 - - Joshua GAY to Drury Alford, both of Franklin Co., Sept. 13, 1788 for 20 pds. current money of N.C., a tract of 20 acres on Cypress Creek begining on the south side of the Great Branch adjoining said Alford. Wits: Sion Hill, Fedrick Jones, John Chieves, Nathan Millings.

p. 231 - - Christopher Butler of Nash Co. N.C. to William Babb of Franklin Co., March 28, 1793, for 100 silver dollars, a tract of 302 acres in Franklin Co., lying on the head of Little Peach Tree Creek adjoining Thos. Babb, Kitchen Prim, Elias GAY, Wm. Bowden and Wm. Babb. Wits: John Linsey, Thomas Babb.

p. 255 - - Elisha Strickland of Wake Co. N.C. to Thomas Ray of Franklin Co.,

Nov. 18, 1794, for 25 pds. current money, a tract of 42 acres in Franklin Co. in the fork of Mockeson Creek adjoining James Pearce, Thomas GAY and said Ray. Wits: Benj. Wheler, Phillip Pearce, Isaac Strickland.
