I have photocopies of a family bible for my husband's family going back to Albert Sheridan Gay who was the son of William Madison Gay (b. 1880 d. 1942) and Maggie Lillian Clements (b. 1888 d. 1920). It lists step-brothers for him and I was able to (after much trial and error) find a 1900 census record for William Madison Gay that lists his first wife, Susie (b. 1881), and son, John Samuel (b. 1898 d. 1965). The son and the other step-brothers are confirmed on later census records, but I cannot confirm anything for the first wife or the parents of William Madison Gay.

Census and marriage records show William in Albemarle county, then later in Nelson county, and then in Charlottesville where he passed away.

Can anyone help me with the next step?
