There is a Charles Gaylord who arrived in Corvallis, Oregon about that time, from Massachusettes. He started a window and sash company. He is my great, great grandfather. His son, Stephen, was my grandfather's father. Stephen came to Lake County, Oregon. Could this be your Charles Gaylord Sr.? I believe he was married twice.

Hi Tim, I'm replying to a very old posting you made just in case you're still doing looking for relatives... I'm a Kinney from somewhere unknown. I have a past cousin named Gaylord W. Kinney (b. abt 1880) that I can find no info on other than he lived mostly in Georgia. Your Gaylord/Kinney connection is interesting. Gaylord is just not a common name. Does your father have any relatives who were also named for the Gaylords?

Just grasping at straws here,
Alison Kinney Ramroth

p.s. There are several Asa Kinney's in my history...

Ray, thank you so much for the information. I was just speaking with my dad, Tim Gaylord, and he said he has spoken to you before, though many years ago.

I am working with him now to further our search. I was wondering if you have a copy of the will listed here http://www.gurganus.org/ourfamily/doc_view.cfm?did=267
(Just in case the link doesn't work, it's the will of Thomas Gaylord 1784) We don't want to post anything we aren't positive about, so we are doing some more research. Dad has passed the genealogy "bug" onto me and I can't get enough!

Thanks again,
Susan Gaylord Henry

This is all copied off my website, and that's probably the best place to check for the latest info. though in some cases, not much has changed. Here's the link to Thomas:
http://www.gurganus.org/ourfamily/browse.cfm?pid=21544

For deeds/wills I have that mention Gaylords:
http://www.gurganus.org/ourfamily/docs.cfm?name=gaylord

What I'm looking for is which Gaylords are the ones mentioned in each deed/will. In some cases, there were 2 or more with the same name alive at the time. If you can clarify which is which, let me know.

Yes, this Thomas Gaylord is my 6th GGrandfather! He was born about 1721. I am trying to find new information on him because my dad has done a lot of work, but can only come up to Thomas' father, Thomas, born about 1686. I believe we have only found one mention of his father in Hyde County.

You said you have a number of deeds that list the Gaylords. Is this what you have, or do you have more?

I look forward to hearing from you, even if your post is 8 years old! Thank you!

The 1920 census for Chicod township, Pitt, North Carolina has a Austin Gaylord, ae 70, and wife, Silvey Ann, ae 68. This could be part of what you are looking for. He would have been born about 1850 and Silvey about 1852.

I have the Gaylord Family Association and have nothing in the data base on your family.

Amanda Melvina Gaylord

I have looked every way to see how she connects to the Eastern Gaylords. She shows up in 1851-1854 in Benton County, MO.
It is complicated there is a Norman Gaylord and an Enos Gaylord not on the 1850 census then Norman has two sisters and Norman and two sisters all marry within two days apart. Apparently a circuit judge came thru.
One of the sisters married a Pouge or Houge and ended up dying in childbirth.
Amanda shows up and almost right away married a man Jeremiah Land with nine children and was widowed from the last child being born. He too had no ties in MO.
Haywood, NC was apparently where he was from and brought with him not guite all of the kids.
Amanda and Jeremiah had another nine kids in Benton County, MO before he died and left her to raise the children from the first marriage that were too young to fend for them selves.
I am trying to go from Amanda to Norman, Enos and the two sisters.
She has diffent places of where she was born. I know only one Gaylord that took off to N.D. or Wyoming and were attacked by Indians I don't know much about that Gaylord, if anyone knows he does come straight from the Conn. Gaylords.
Any help would be helpful.
Patti

Hi,I am looking for any info regarding this couple and their parents. This is what I do know
Hannah Gaylord b.abt 1809 d.4-13-1883 is buried in Welton cemetery,Burton,Ohio. She married 2-18-1828 in Cheshire,New Haven Ct. William F. Hotchkiss b.8-12-1803 he d.2-16-1886 and is also buried in Burton,Ohio. They Had children:
1.Lucy H. b.1-13-1829 d.8-13-1835 is also buried in burton,ohio.
2.Lydia b.7-19-1833 d.10-8-1853also buried in Burton,Ohio
3.Charles b.1-8-1837 d.9-30-1881 also buried Burton,Ohio
4.Henry b.3-10-1831 in Cheshire,New Haven Ct. d.5-24-1923in Burton,Ohio married Sarah Conant b.4-1834 in Ohio d.1-26-1916.
I am assuming from the spread of birthdates that there are children I am Missing and that they traveled from Ct to Burton,Ohio sometime between 1831 and 1835.The reason I have come to this conclusion is that Henry whom I know was born in Ct in 1831 and Lucy who died in 1835 and is buried in Ohio. This was a very prominant family in Burton,Ohio.I live about 15min from Burton,Ohio and have visited Welton Cemetery but have not yet located their headstones.I did notice a few other Gaylords buried there and am willing to take pics if anyone wants them. Thanks in advace for your time.

Ayme

I am searching for information on my great-grandfather Francis Acey Gaylord - a.k.a Frank Gaylord, born August 4 1877 in Pennsylvania.

Frank married Catherine Morsch (sp?) around 1900.

He and Catherine had 3 children:

Ella Catherine Gaylord
Marion Mausk (Morsch?) Gaylord
Josephine A Gaylord

The last historical record of Frank that shows up is the 1910 census.

Sometime after that he abandoned his family and dissapeared. A business card in his name was found for a textiles company out in California, so that presumption is that is where he wound up, but nobody knows for sure.

This is a family mystery that is bugging several of us, so if you can help it would be greatly appreciated!

Gaylord family in Massachusettes?

I am looking for Charles Gaylord Sr. I have him listed in the 1870 Census in Owen Township, Clark County, Indiana. He is there again in 1880. He is with wife Amanda. In 1870 they have 17 year old son, Charles living with them as well as a Richard Gamble. In 1880 their son Charles is living next to them married to Susan Mary Morrison. Also living with Charles Sr. and Amanda in 1880 is a Rachel Gamble listed as "mother in law". Charles Sr would have been born about 1823. Both 1870 and 1880 show him born in Mass. Amanda was born in Kentucky about 1835. If anyone has ANY info on this family it would be so helpful. I have that Charles Jr was born in Kentucky but I can't find the families listed in ANY other census record.
Somewhere in my notes I have listed that Charles and Amanda may have also had a son named George and one named William. Not sure if this is correct.

Eda Gaylord's father

Hello...

I saw an old post on the ancestry message board about Eda Gaylord. I am also a descendant of Eda Gaylord and Lewis Parrish through their son Sylvester. I know Eda's lineage back William Gaylord who came to America on the Mary and John in 1630.

What I have difficulty with is Eda's father, Chauncey. It has always been told in our family that he was a carpenter who fell of a building in New York in 1807. I believe this is true because I have a copy of a newspaper cliipping from 1807 that says "Chancey Gaylord" fell from a building in Ontario County, New York. The newspaper was from either Luzerne or Wyoming County, Pennsylvania. Also, I have found the surrogate estate records of Chauncey Gaylord of Ontario County, New York dated in 1807.

This, I believe, is Eda's father but I have no concrete proof. I see that many of the genealogies listing her on Ancestry show that her father, Chauncey, is the one who died in the 1840's. I think this Chauncey is a relative of Eda's (maybe an uncle?) but not her father.

What information might you have on this?

Thanks for any help.

Gaylords Of South Hadley, MA

Hi, need a little help, please: My great Aunt did her geneaology in the 60's, gathered quite a bit of info, too! Anyway, there's a gap in the line that I can't connect:
Short version:
She has a William Gaylord, b. 1 March 1775 in South Hadley, MA m. 31 Dec 1801 to Lydia Hitchcock of Ludlow, b. 25 July 1775. She has the line all the way to her from here. BUT, BEFORE this William, I can't connect her other info. Does anyone know who this William's Father/mother might be?

To make a long story longer:
Her info for BEFORE this William is quite extensive and I've verified the info with other sources.
Starts with Deacon William Gaylord, posted by many on this site, to William (married to Ann Porter); to William, b 25 Feb 1651, moving to Hadley in 1669, dying in 1680, William had children by Ruth Crow, Ruth, Samuel, WIlliam. She has "william" underlined. BUT THEN SHE JUMPS SHIP! And goes to Samuel Gaylord, the above William's son. Then on to John, son of Samuel and Mary Dickenson, to Josiah to Emerson to Arthur, to Emerson, to Emerson George Jr, born in Chicopee sometime in the 20th century.

Maybe I'm missing something! Can anyone help? Thanks!
