GAYNOR - County Longford Ireland to Dover, Dearborn Co. Indiana

I am looking for information and further connections to William GAYNOR, born 1832 in Longford, Ireland. He came to the US and settled in Dover, Dearborn County, Indiana with brothers James, Thomas and possibly Patrick. Need to know specifically where the records would be found -- village, townland, etc. Will be glad to share what I have on this family and others who married into it.

You show Gertrude Gaynor having married Hubert P. Shannon. Hubert's mother was Mary Hanora Ryan, daughter of George Ryan and Nellie Hassett. Nora Ryan's name as several variations - if you have seen it spelled as Dora I would very much like to see that. Nora married David Shannon, the wholesale meat dealer/butcher. David was born Jul 1943, probably Cork area, though I don't remember where I got that. Have to check sources. He died 21 Mar 1908 in New York. His parents were David Shannon and Ellen Roach, both born and died in Ireland.
-rick (oryanr@yahoo.com)

Please send me your email address so I can send you a pdf of the tree I am working on. I have not yet seen Nora's name spelled Dora, but I have seen some variations in the census rolls. Thanks for the reply! There is a Shannon Family Tree on ancestry.com but the profile for the owner of that tree, tbs4fort, cannot be retrieved to leave them a message.
oryanr

It was just by chance that I saw your message.
I am a granddaughter of Patrick J. My father was Mark - born in 1916 (not 1917), Passed away 12-7-02, have wonderful memories of my Great-Aunt Martha! Such as spending the night at her apartment in Rogers Park with her granddaughter, Mary Martha. Aunt Mayme and Aunt Helen also would visit for weddings and graduations.
I am quite sure my mother still keeps in contact with some of the relatives. She is now - from what I understand...the oldest of the relatives left. Uncle Pat's wife passed away this month at 93.
This may all be old news to you, but just incase - I thought I would reply.
We went to Ireland in '02 and I was under the impression that the county they were from is Westmeath. Our cousin, (daugher of Samuel)was there years ago, and has some documentation from a church(?) & has some photos of Catherine - quite a severe looking woman! I have - if the story is true, a rocking chair of hers.

I believe I can verify that John was the brother of James Sydney Gaynor, born in County Cavan 8 Apr 1833, died in Natchez, MS 11 Nov 1902.

James owned a plantation called the Omega Plantation in Concordia Parish, Louisiana. Initially, one parcel of land was purchased by John Gaynor (of Ohio) just after the end of the Civil War and then sold to James a year later.

James S Gaynor had been drafted into the Breckenridge Guards of the Mississippi Cavalry, was captured at the battle of Missionary Ridge, and then released from the Union prison in Rock Island, Illinois a year later. The land purchase by John may have had something to do with James serving in the Confederate cause.

I'd like to exchange information about John and James (I believe I have parents' names as well).

Please contact me at max.ward@verizon.net

Max
