Hello Robin,
My Grandfather was Alfred Gee, born St.Margaret’s, Feb. 1890.
His Father also an Alfred (shoe finisher born around 1864 (St.Margaret’s) married an Elizabeth Ball (Oakham).
The line I am following then has Alfred’s father as a Thomas Gee (frame work knitter) born Blaby around 1829.
I am not able to definitely confirm any of this apart from the first Alfred whose birth certificate I have a copy of.
Martin Gee
Thank you very much. Lori Wilcox is my niece and William Stewart is the father-in-law of my grandaughter so obviously they have investigated this line already. I'll contact them for information. Lori would have told me if she had found anything pertinent, so they both probably hit a dead end!
Again, I thank you kindly for your trouble and for your consideration. Bless you!
Mary Lou

I checked the Family Trees on Ancestry for Hannah Gee
and came up with a couple

Cubbage- England Canada ( Lori Wilcox Vancouver BC)

also William G. Stewart -- Maple Ridge BC

These may help with the genealogy part of your search.
I don't think Henry Alred Charles Gee is part of it though.

My interest was helping someone do research on the Gee Family. Her great aunt was married to the Father of
Henry Alfred Charles Gee. They originally came from
Aldersgate London England.

I am living in Coldstream BC ( near Vernon in the Okanagan
Valley).
my e-mail is akitcher@shaw.ca
if you would like to reply there.

Hello!
I don't know much about him unfortunately. His daughter Hannah married John Humphreys in Surrey, England. He was killed while building the Savoy hotel in London, I understand. I am the grandaughter of Hannah Gee(Humphreys), and I live in Victoria, BC Canada. My grandmother emigrated to Canada in 1919 to Winnipeg, Manitoba, and eventually came to Vancouver, British Columbia. Are you a "Gee?"
Thank you so very much for answering, I very much appreciate your kindness in attempting to help me. Are there many "Gee's" on Jersey? Where did they originate?
Thank you so much once again.
Mary Lou Lauren (nee Eccles)

hello,
There is a Gee DNA study at geeroots.org. Mike Gee has some theories on the Leicester Gee's, as one of the original Gee families in the UK.
I also have a page on my site:
http://woodheadfamilytree.com

other Gee researchers have posted queries on the "Gee Connections" link from the index. But at this moment I can't remember what is there. Check the web page, and go to
geeroots.org.

I wish you luck in your search!

Ruth Beck

I am researching my father's line of Gee's.
He was Maurice Alfred Samuel Gee born in Hampshire in 1912 his father Alfred born in February 1890 in (East) Leicester.
His Father another Alfred, Mother Elizabeth (Ball).
From census records and relying on lack of movement of people around that time I am drawn towards Thomas Gee born in Blaby.
But the birth dates do vary more than I expected and am not completely sure I have the right thread.
Almost nothing is known of that side of my family.

I found your email fascinating because my great grandfather was a "Gee" and was from Jersey Island. I don't know much about him except that he had a daughter named Hannah( my grandmother). He moved to London and had a leather goods store, and was apparently the head of the Salvation Army there around 1912.
I haven't done any geneology, not knowing his first name or whether he had more children.
I understand that my grandmother was distanced from her parents because she married an Irishman!!

I believe Peter's father was Joseph Gee.Peter had a brother named Cornelius and a sister Mally. But those names do not appear in my line elsewhere. Is there another name that Mally could be?
Yes please - will contact you shortly.

Not sure if you knew about the Gee family in Jersey, but they had a rather unusual line of business. There is a local variety of cabbage called the Jersey Longjack: the leaves grow atop a long stem (5-6 feet, or whatever the metric is). The stems were dried and seasoned and made into walking sticks and umbrella handles, and the Gee family had a shop in St Helier that sold these things. It survived right up to about 1970, although the last Gee sold out some years prior to that.
I have information... He died in St Helier, Jersey on 8 Feb 1968, at his home at 3 Clearview Street. The funeral took place at the church of St Mark, and he was buried at Surville Cemetery, just beyond the northern edge of the town.

You have helpfully answered a question: I have seen the obituary on the microfilmed copy of the Jersey Evening Post and it said that there were daughters in Canada.

He might have been a "home child" - by which I presume you mean someone taken from an orphanage - but I think it is more likely that he came as an apprentice. Several Jersey firms took young men to eastern Canada (often Paspebiac or the Gaspe peninsula) to work in the lumber trade: some went on to other parts of Canada. I think a firm called Robin were a major player in this enterprise.

Hope this is some help. I can get information off the rates lists which ought to indicate how long he was there, and it's also worth a look at the OPAC run by the Jersey Heritage Trust of what they hold in the archives - it's at http://www.jerseyheritagetrust.jeron.je/archive.html

Cheers,

James

I don't have a tree on Ancestry. I do have a home page on family treemaker if I can find the URL. As I said before I have not done this for awhile.

I had a bad experience with Kindred Konnections where all my data ended up in someone else's tree with my living mother and I in it. I took everything down and had to threaten to sue them to get it gone off their website.
My Richard Gee who is my great-grandfather was born about 1868, married twice, first to Mary Roby, secondly to Elizabeth ?. Richard's parents were George born about 1834 and Mary Ann born about 1836. All were born or lived in Billinge except George who was born in Winstanley, near Wigan. Both Richard and George were blacksmiths. I've not got much further due to lack of time. There are a lot of geesin Billinge. Rchard had sisters called Tabitha and Alice, and brothers called George and James

It seems I too have a connection to this family. My 2x Greatgrandmother's father was a Osgood Gee Pritchard. He travelled to Melbourne, married here but after tragically losing 3 children left for England.

Our side of the family moved to New Zealand, with my parents and Grandparents, and I have only recently moved to Australia. I have been trying to pinpoint when Osgood travelled to/from Australia but have been unable to find him. Does anyone know of ships lists, or passenger lists other than the assisted/unassisted ones that I can check?

Samantha
