Hello there...I have THOMAS JOHN GEEN, born about 1849 in Braunton Devon and married to MARIA EVANS, (born about 1844). Her Parents were John Evans & Grace Bray. Thomas Geen's parents were John Geen & Betsy (last name unknown). Maria Evans's sister, Hannah, married William Charles Cook in 1867 (These are my great grandparents on my mothers side). I have it that Thomas John Geen & Maria Evans married in Devon and came to Canada (not sure when). They had at least 7 children.

Caroline Geen of Georgeham,Devon

I am looking at the Geen branch of my family, Booth, and the starting point appears to be with John Geen and his daughter Caroline [Catherine]. In 1858 Caroline had an illigitimate son Henry who then lived with his grandparents in Georgeham. Caroline then went on to marry my great great grandfather Charles Booth and lived with him in Greta Torrington where she started a new family. I have the marriage certificate of Henry, whose father is now named as Charles Geen, a gardener [Charles Booth was also a gardener..co-incidence or misunderstanding? hiding the illigitimacy or a different person?] Henry married Emma Harris and are traced through census up to 1901 where they move to Buckland Brewer and end up in Sparkhill Warwickshire. They had quite a few children including, from Henry's first marriage to Annie, Carrie {Caroline],Annie,Winifred, Emma, Henry,Frederick,Ellen and Clifford.
If anyone has any links with any of these names please contact me or if you want to know more about Caroline [Geen] Booth and her family.

My link with the Geens is through Caroline daughter of John Geen of Georgeham, she had an illigitimate son Henry in 1858 and later went on to marry Charles Booth of Torrington [my branch of the family] I have tracked Henry Geen through to the 1901 census when he was living in Sparkhill Warwickshire. I am trying to locate anyone who is descended from Henry's line as they are part of my family tree. I have birth certificate of Henry and can give information regarding Caroline [Catherine] and her life with Charles Booth.

Was your John Geen born in 1791 and was he the son of Elizabeth (nee Downham) and John Geen? If this is another John Geen, can you please give me some details on him. I am researching my family of Geens who originally came from Cardiff and Aberdare, but have links with Barnstaple and Bideford. The earliest ancestor I have is John Geen born in 1771. If you need any further info on later Geens, please get in touch.

My Geen family also came from Devon but immigrated to NYC in 1842 and eventually on to Madison, Indiana by 1848. John Geen sr., and wife Sarah?Mary, and 9 children sailed from the port of Bideford, Devon, on a brig named Arab. Bideford was the port near "Barnstable" which was their home as well as your Geens. You can check out Barnstable on the web.
They were probably related. I don't have a name beyond John sr.(1802-1872)
w.d.geen, in S.C.

Here are some more of the Devon UK Geen Family thanks to a Rooks family member.

Parracombe P.R.s show Richard GEEN married Traphena BALE in
Parracombe, 25 April 1709.
There is also Phillip GEEN alias NICHOLLS and Trephoena shown as
the parents of:

- Phillip GEEN alias NICHOLLS bapt 28 Jan 1710, Parracombe
(married Elizabeth LUSIMORE 1734, Parracombe) (Phillip and
Elizabeth's daughters are also shown in the Register as GEEN
alias NICHOLLS)

- George GEEN bapt 28 March 1713 Parracombe, buried 7 April 1713
Parracombe

- George GEEN bapt 27 Feb 1714, Parracombe (married Anne PUGSLEY
3 Jan 1740, Parracombe)

- Agnes GEEN bapt 14 May 1718, Parracombe, buried 1 June 1718,
Parracombe

- Dorothy GEEN bapt 14 May 1719, Parracombe, buried 17 April
1803, Parracombe (married Jeffrey ROOKE 17 April 1745,
Parracombe)

- Alexander GEEN bapt 12 March 1723, Parracombe, buried 14
November 1736, Parracombe)

- Agnes GEEN alias NICHOLLS bapt 15 April 1726, Parracombe.

I dont know what the significance is of the name GEEN being
associated with the name NICHOLLS. A number of GEEN families are
shown that way. Any ideas??
Also I wondered if Richard GEEN and Phillip GEEN could have been
the same person. The dates would work out... marriage to
Traphena in April 1709, first baby Phillip arrives in Jan 1710.
They were fertile folks back in those days!

Trephena's name is spelled many ways... Trephoena, Typheny,
Tiphonia.... must have been quite a challenge to the hardworking
Parracombe church warden!

She was buried 1 April 1842, Parracombe.

I've recently come across a Richard Geen and his wife Elizabeth. They had a daughter Louisa in 1826 born in Countisbury (which is just up the road from the area you mentioned). Richard and Elizabeth were my GGG Grandparents. Do you know if you have any connections with this family?
Regards
Alan

Peter, I'm looking into the ancestors of Thomas John Geen born about 1842 in Devonshire England, married to Maria Evans. At some time they immigrated to Ontario Canada. Is your wife related to that line of Geens? Any help you have would be appreciated.
I have a relative Thomas John Geen who married a Maria Evans. Unfortunately I don't have anything further back on them. But I do have a picture of Thomas John Geen. I'm wondering if they are the same. If you have found any information on them please let me know.
Searching for details of John Geen my GGGrandfather. Born around 1844-1855?. Occupation given as blacksmith. No details of his wife but certainly had 3 daughters - Evangeline (married Fred Edwards), Mary (my grandmother who married Edward Norman Chambers) and Kitty. All girls lived in and around Cardiff. Any information would be appreciated. Many thanks
