Israel Smith Geer + Orlinda Holcomb

In my gr-grandfather's memoirs, he states that his parents are Israel Smith Geer and Orlinda Holcomb. I later found verification of this in the Geer Genealogy. The Geer Genealogy lists Timothy Holcomb and Ann Culver as the parents of Orlinda.

However, the Holcomb Genealogy at the DAR, does NOT list an Orlinda as a daughter of Timothy Holcomb and Ann Culver.

In his memoirs (Knyphausen Geer) also says that two of his gr-grandfathers fought in the Revolution. I have already established that both of them must have been on his maternal side, and thus I am anxious to 'prove' the lineage of Orlinda.

Do any other researchers who claim Israel Smith Geer and Orlinda Holcomb as ancestors have something to document this lineage other than the Geer Genealogy?

My great grandfather, George Larkin Geer of Maine, USA was the child of David Larkin Geer (b. 1819 CT; d. in Maine) and 2nd wife Lucy Lermond Kellock Geer. The child born just before George L. Geer was James Haskell Geer (same mother) b. 1856 Maine. He left America and went to So. Africa and then on to Tasmania (perhaps in the whaling business) and settled down there with a large family with many children. He is known to have written home at least once.

In the last few years I have volunteered with Geer DNA Project in testing various GEER male descendants in an effort to organize the Geer family into genetic family groups. This y-DNA (passed from father to son) results has shown that this South Carolina Geer line (many from Anderson Co., SC) is a 100% match to other descendants of John Geer of North Carolina.

I don't have a lot of information. My aunt who in now nearly 80 years old was Cary's granddaughter (Herman was her father). My aunt was wanting more information about her family. Her parents divorced when she was very young. She attempted to make contact her father some years ago but he had pasted away by then. She is curious and I am trying to help. Do you have any information that you are willing to share about the family history?

I am trying to find info on my great grandfather. His name was Gabor Gere. He was born in Gelenas, Magyar, Hungary and immigrated in 1906 to Harvey, Illinois. He lived in Chicago in 1910 and 1920, died in 1925. He was married (second marriage) to a woman named Zsuzanna or Susie. They had children Susan, Helen, Anna, Mary, and Paul (or Pal). I would love to find out ANYTHING about his relations back in Hungary, or his descendants in America. Family tradition has it that Sue went to California, Helen to Missouri, Paul was killed in a train accident, and no record of Mary. Anna was my grandmother, she married Michael A Karabajaki (later Brown) and lived in Detroit. Thanks, Danny Brown
