Hello,
My name is Miriam Zorn and I am a 15-year-old student from Germany.
During my efforts of researching my ancestry I have stubled across your note on this website and on the basis of my information I have gathered so far, I believe that my grandmother Hildegard Zorn (born Heitkötter)is Anna Heitkötter's niece.

My grandmother has often told us (me and my older brother, who is writing this message for me) about the post-war supply packages she had received from 'Aunty Anna' from America.
According to her tellings (I have just phoned her to make sure my information are as detailed as possible.) Anna had worked as a nanny and had later accompanied the family she had worked for to the US before the war. Unfortunately we do not have any information about that very family.
But what we do know is that Anna later married a man called Frank Geib. They had six or seven children of which my grandmother only remembers the names Jacob, Bernard and Irmgard. She is also quite certain about the time when Jacob and Bernard were born and it matches the dates given in your post.
Last but not least my grandmother gave us the return address of the packages. It was:

Frank Geib
524 Spring Street
Aurora, Illinois

I hope we were able to help by sharing our information with you and we are looking forward to hearing from you.

Sincerly
Gabriel and Miriam Zorn

3 Dec. 2012

Josef Geib was the son of Valentin Geib and Maria Christina Kauer.

Katharina Schweigel was the daughter of Franz Schweigel and Barbara Strömich.

The families can be found in the Bolechow Ortsfamilienbuch (OFB) which you can read about here:

http://www.galiziengermandescendants.org/Familybooks.htm

The Ortsfamilienbücher are available for purchase and the details are on the page linked above. The index to the OFB may be viewed on-line and you can often patch together members of a family via the family group numbers, which are in square brackets [ ]

Valentin also appears in the OFB for Königsau, where he was born, along with his parents.

Dave

My maternal grandmother, Minnie Geib Wayman might have been a neice of Jacob Geib. Her father, Johan, immigrated to Pittsburgh from Germany with his brother, Jacob, and his
(Johan's) sons by a first marriage. Iam descended from
Johan through his second marriage to B. Hilf.
Doris Mildred Geib Wilson Law

Doris Mildred Geib, born 9 Oct 1935 is my grandmother's maiden name. She then married a man named Richard Wilson (which I know absolutely nothing about except that he is the father of my mother and my aunt). She then married Joseph Hare Law who adopted both my mother and my aunt. I've tried finding what I can about this man who is my biological grandfather but have come up with nothing. I was wondering if anyone knows about this or is connected to this in any way. I'm in dire need to know my biological grandfathers since I have never known either of them in my life.

I am thinking this family maybe totally unrelated, but am not sure so I post the following to you in the event you know of this family, as there are some similarities... Frank was born about 1870, and had a rather large family. I am not clear on who his father is, so possibly his father could be in your tree?!

I have posted the following previously, and this is some of the information I have below:

"Looking for a relative of Jacob Geib, father and some of family immigrated from Germany. kids were Jacob, Bernard, and others.
I would be interested in following any studies on the GEIB surname. I understand that the surname of GIPE may have come from the GEIB name. I have a GIPE ancestor that I've not yet been able to link to the other Geib/Gipe families in the area of Pennsylvania where he initially resided. At least one of his sons has male descendants that could be encouraged to submit YDNA once a study has been established. If your family member creates a study, do post back and let us know.

Start with what you know and work backwards. There are many Landestreu films available to rent from the LDS. Are you familiar with the process? I am aware of Landestreu Klayh's that originated from Switzerland and then Weitersbach Germany and later to Landestreu. If you need help or info, please email me.

Dear Franz:

I am curious whether or not this family can be traced back to the Staudernheim Geib's or the Duchroth Geib's.
Mary:

Galicia was a crownland of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire - as was Bukowina. The Geib's, Busch's and a good number of other German's immigrated to this area in the late 1780's and 1790's. In the late 1890's many of the descendants of these colonists immigrated to Canada and the US. You do not say to which country your grandparents/great grandparents immigrated. Or do you know the port city through which they entered?

Jake is also another name for Jacob. Johann typically translates to John.

It is very possible I have information on your Busch-Geib ancestors - but when these folks began immigrated from SE Euopre to the US or Canada - tracing them becomes much more difficult.

Is there any other information you can provide?

On the S.S. Corean, sailing April 2, 1900 from Hamburg, GE, Liverpool, and Glasgow, Arrived in St. Johns, NS April 16, 1900 with the following:

Michael Busch - age 56 (b. ca. 1844)
Katharina Busch (wife) - age 49
Dau. elisabeth age 16
Dau. It says on the manifest they are from Austria, which includes her crownlands.
Mary:

There is one very key piece of information to ask about - and that is the marriage record and date for Michael Busch. I believe I have your line as it was part of my research on Landestreu and the Bukowina for my Geib ancestors, and in so doing, I gathered information on many families. Without a marriage record though for Michael, it would be pure speculation that the one on the ships passenger list and the one in my research are one in the same person. Check for an old family Bible - this was the usual place where people recorded important family events, e.g., marriage, births, deaths. Whomever has the bible probably has the information.

Nicholas was in Kent county in the Caldonia area in 1880.
I believe all of the Beibs were from the same family in this area. By age, Nicholas is the eldest of Peter, and George. He was possibly their uncle. The Geibs came from the Waterloo area of Canada.
Charles Snitchler

Hello everybody,

I am looking for Franz (1831) and Jean Geib (1837) from Harlange in Luxembourg.
Jean left his home in 1857 on board the Scranton, together with his mother Marie Jeanne Kaschenbach, who died probably during the crossing of the ocean.

Best greetings and many thanks in advance
René
