Cata:
You had sent my brother an e-mail and I will try to respond to your questions. Geiser is probably the most common name in Langenthal. If you look at the post above concerning the Geiser family genealogy, this is where you will find what you are looking for. The only problem you have is that the Langenthal church records end in 1875. After 1875 they are civil records maintained by the government. I have absolutely no idea how to get these. All I know is that they are in the town of Aarwangen.

We were lucky in that my g-great grandmother got these before they emmigrated in 1895 and actually kept a copy of them. This allowed us to jump the time gap that you also have. Once you get back past 1875 the going is pretty easy.

The other thing that you will notice is that the men in Langenthal frequently went to other towns to take a bride. I also have a Burkard who was from Huttwyl which is very close to Langenthal.

If you have access to the books Men of Bern, you can look up Langenthal and find a list of male inhabitants, relationships (somewhat), and their occupations for the late 1800's. This MAY help you jump the time gap,

For what I have, I do not show the name Hauri for 1875 and back.

Feel free to ask questions and I will do what I can to help. I just do not speak Spanish.

Gary

The name Geiser is a younger version of the name Giser in a wierd way all Geiser,Giser, and Guiser's are all related because each version was addapted from Giser .But as the holocaust came a foot a mass exidust of Gisers began as years of prenunsiation took fold the vary name itself changed (as is seen today). so i cant but help myself thinking am i and another few members of my family the ONLY Giser's left?

I'm looking for information on my 3-Great Grandpa John F. Geiser. Family says his middle name is Franklin, but found in census the name is Fredrick. He was born in 1830 (Switzerland, according to most census records) and arrived in this country in 1846 according to census records. Can't find any immigration records and wonder if this year is wrong. He was supposed to have served in the War Between the States (Civil War), but I don't have enough information about him to locate military records. He was married to Margaret I (I think Johnston is the last name). Would like to know his parents names and where he's from and any other insight anyone might have.

Re: Geiser Family in Langenthal

I am replying to my own thread so as to help anyone else that has a similar situation.

I went to the geneaolgy librrary (in Houston) and copied the Langenthal pages out of the 3 volume set "The Men of Bern."

A very large percentage of the entries are of the last name Geiser. The remainder of the entries were very helpful for marriages, etc. I am researching the Geiser family of Langenthal as well as the Spaar and Glogger families. The only challenge is that the time frame that I am researching is about 60 years after the census was taken that comprises the "Men of Bern." As such there is generation skipping to an extent as well as fewer family names for whatever reason.

I also went to the LDS Family History Library internet site and found the microfilm for Langenthal. One of the tools listed there was a book on film that is titled as follows:

"Genealogy of the Geiser Family of Langenthal, Kt. Bern, Switzerland, 1560-1904." Compiled by Julius Billeter.

The film number is [216667] which may be ordered at your local LDS Family History Center.

I hope this helps someone.

Geiser Family in Langenthal

I have been trying to research the Geiser family of Langenthal for about 2 years. My grandmother was born in Langenthal (1891), her mother was Marie Glogger (1852) m. Johannes Spaar, and her mother was Elisabeth Geiser b. 1837/1838 and d.June 2, 1924. I actually have the published death notice showing her as Elisabeth Glogger as her husband was Daniel Glogger, however it mentions the family of Albert Bosiger (probably a nephew).

I have Marie Glogger’s christening book with several names that seem to pretty much be Geiser women with a few friends thrown in the mix, Some names that come to mind are Marti, Leppert, Boegli, and Gerber. These names are all written in German script so I am still working on a few of them.

If any of this sounds familiar, I sure could use some help. I know that there was a Joseph Geiser in the 1700’s that had three wives and about 15 children, so there are a lot of Geisers in the 1800’s.
In 1854/1855 more then 200 people left Sasbachwalden( of course not all of them were ancestors of mine) and I think a lot of them went over on the Isabella.I´m interested in the Isabellas´ passenger lists. I would like to know whom of them was still alive when the ship arrived at the USA and were they went to after theire arrival. So you can see I´m interested in any kind of information.

NOTE: I came across this obit while hunting for another, in my role as the RootsWeb obituary volunteer for the Allentown Morning Call newspaper. I am NOT researching this family.

This obituary was printed in:
The Allentown Morning Call
Allentown, Pennsylvania
Saturday, June 15 1895
Page 1

Daniel Geiser, a life-long citizen of Allentown, died at 6.30 a.m. yesterday at his home, corner Sixth and Gordon streets, after a prolonged illness of catarrh of the stomach. Deceased was 72 years of age. He was a son of the late John Geiser. He was a carpenter by trade, but for the last fifteen years lived in retirement, having amassed considerable property. Deceased leaves a wife and three children, Hannah, Emma and Mary Geiser, and one sister, Mrs. Reuben Hausman, of Whitehall township.

Kim,
I am descended from Ignatz and Karolina GEISER. Ignatz was one of 4 known sons of Johannes Georg and Maria Anna VOGT GEISER. Ignatz's daughter Elisabeth was the first cousin of Jonas. The Ignatz GEISER family lived in Cincinnati. The whys and wherefors of them living Germany and settling in Cincinnati I don't know. I do know that on the ship Isabella that left Rotterdam and arrived in Baltimore on 14 March 1855 carried as its passengers, 200 some people from Sasbachwalden. I, like you, would like to know why so many people left this village and traveled the legnth of Germany in the winter to leave. This list includes other GEISERs,and OBERLEs. A lot of what I have is bits and pieces of the GEISERs but would be happy to share with you. If you would like to contact me, my e-mail is jbrown01@win.org. Thanks for answering.
Judy

He was a baker in Indianapolis IN, born about 1817 in Germany, and married in 1841 in Marion county IN to Mary A. Groves who was born about 1821 in OH. Their known children were Marg born about 1844, Mary born about 1846, and Sophia born about 1849, all born in IN. I can’t find them after 1850. Where did they go?
