Hello Peggy,
I have seen alot of your message boards and finally decided to let you know that I am also related to the Geiss family. My gr-grandmother was Josie Myrtle Geiss Johnson. Daughter of Charles Conrad Geiss and Epsie Ann Russell. All of Umatilla Co., Oregon. There are still some grandchildren in the Pendleton and Milton-Freewater area. The last of the Johnson girls passed away in 2006. Of the Wahner boys, I believe that Eldon is the only one still alive. I am the daughter of Bessie one of 5 children decended from Susannah Kuhn and Frank George Geiss who was the brother of Heinrich (Henry) Geiss born in Germany in Dietz in 1840 who married Susannah Frances Duncan in 1869. I may descent from Anna Catharine Geiss b. 1684 c. d. 1734 Palatinate, Germany m. Johann Abraham Stoudt b. 1624 Herschweiler, the Palatinate d. 1758 Pa.
They had 11 children:
Anna Catharine, Anna Magdalena, Maria Engel, Anna Maria, Johan Jacob, Johan George, Lisa Margarete, Maria Elizabeth, Anna Barbara, Margarete Katharina & Johann Mathias.
I descend from their dtr. Anna Catharine who m. Frantz/Francis Krick of Berks co., Pa.
There has been some confusion in this line. Some say Catharine d. in Germany-but that would make no sense as some of the Krick children were b. in Pa. & there is no record that Frantz m. twice.
Hopefully I have the right 'Catherine Stoudt(en).
Does anyone know anything about this Stoudt line?

Appears in "The Wapanucka Press" 1 December 1904, Wapanucka, Johnston County, Indian Territory, now Oklahoma

The preliminary hearing of Frank Wilson, charged with the killing of Henry Geiss near Medford in 1899, was held at Pond Creek. After hearing statements of attorneys the judge remarked it was useless to continue the proceedings and the prisoner was discharged.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2006, in Caldwell's Hennessey, Goetsch & McGee for Ruth Caroline Geiss, who died Oct. 6 at age 93.
Ruth Heidel was born Dec. 13, 1912, in Greenleaf, Kan. She taught school in rural Idaho and was later a homemaker. She moved to Lake Oswego in 1972 and to Portland in 1982. In 1937, she married Almon L.
Survivors include her husband; daughter, JoAnn R. Geiss Whitmire; son, David E.; sisters, Letha Hancock, Ruby Werts and Venita Vining; and two grandchildren.
Remembrances to the Goose Hollow family shelter in care of Portland's First United Methodist Church.

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007, in Milton-Freewater Cemetery for Elton Burton Shores, who died Dec. 24, 2006, at age 78.

Mr. Shores was born Sept. 4, 1928, in Colorado, and was raised in Hines. He was a millworker in Hines before moving in 1970 to Portland, where he was a self-employed home builder. In 1973, he married Betty Geiss; she died in 1998.

Survivors include his stepdaughter, Victoria Cannard; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

I have antique photos to share with any descendants of William or Christian Geiss. I have their parent's photo but no firstnames are on it, and the boys' photo, both taken in Harrisburg, PA mid 1800s. Then adult photos of William and Mrs Wm which were taken in Balto MD. They seem to connect with my Cordes family of PA. I have no further info on the Geis people, if someone could fill me in.

I found a sketch at the following link. There is also a chart of the 1849 voyage from baltimore to san francisco on the page. My ancestors were aboard the 1848 voyage from germany to US. the ship was apparently built in 1848 acording to a record I found in a registry of ships by Lloyds.

Hi, I was interested in this article regarding the Geiss family. My grandfather Raymond Geiss, just passed away on Sept 29, 2004. He was 83 years old. He was a nationally known country music artist and entertainer back when he was younger, and was still playing up until the past 3 or 4 years. My grandmother is Ruby, known as "Little Jo", back when she was married to him and traveling with their band. My mother is Linda. She went to St. Wendel School, and has a half sister named Judy.

I have been interested in my family history on my grandfathers side for a great while now, so I decided to start looking. My grandfather lived in Wadesville I believe, not far from Evansville. His parents (my great grandparents) were Anton and Bertha Geiss, I know he has family throughout Indiana, as I have met a few. Delmar and Virnyl Raeder (Roeder) not sure how to spell it, are his first cousins. If anyone has any information, could you please forward to me? North Dakota Geiss family

I'm new to this and I had no idea there were so many Geiss's out there. My family migrated to North Dakota from Germany. My father was Marvin Geiss. He was a big part of the German's from Russia Society. He always told me that we are related to all the Geiss's in some way. If anyone out there knows any Geiss's from the upper midwest please let me know. I would like to trace our roots, something that my father could not finish before he died. Believe me, he tried.

Sorry none of the names ring any bells.

I did have Fred Hoeckelberg marry August Scholz and Uncle Fred before marrying my grandfather's sister went up to the Dakota's and homesteaded there for awhile.

Then came back to Northwest Indiana and married August Scholz.

Could be a Scholz, Linke, Trowe that lived in Chicago and help bring the family over from Lower Silesia near Breslau, towns like Alterode and Guhrwitz is where my line of Scholz family came from.

Thank you for your excellent information. We have discovered that Peter's half-brother Charles and wife Epsie Ann (Russell) were charter members of our church in 1873. We also found that Peter and Anna's children married into some of our other pioneer families, so we think they were probably involved during the early days, too. Peter & Anna did attend the First Christian Church in Milton-Freewater, once they moved close to town. Please contact me if you think I may have information that may help you. Unless there was an error in transcription, it's pretty unlikely there's a link between Geiss and Geist; the two have totally different meanings in German.

My ancestors lived in the Athena area. Here are notes on my gr gr grandpa.

From Grandson of Peter Geiss, Almon Geiss of Portland, OR:
Peter came to the USA in 1872 and went to IL. His parents were John b. in
Germany. His mother was Christina Otterbein. He came to America at the age of
18. While in Illinois, he married Anna Elizabeth Guenther. They decided to
head West to acquire farmland. They arrived in Eastern Oregon by train at Blue
Mountain Station in 1878. They had 6 children and lived on a homestead at Pine
Creek, 7 miles north of Weston where they lived for 25 years. in 1902 Peter
and Anna and the 3 younger kids left the ranch and moved to a ten acre tract 2
miles s. of Milton so the girls could go to school in town. In 1932 they moved
to Milton where they spent their remaining years.

Newspaper Article: "Honored on Anniversary"-
Mr. and Mrs. (Peter) Geiss were
married in Virginia, IL, in August, 1878. A year later they came to Weston
where they farmed for 22 years. Purchasing a gruit ranch on the Walla Walla
River, just south of Milton, they lived there 29 years and three years ago,
puchased the Robert Carter residence on First Street in Milton where they now
make their home.

Peter's half brother, Johannes "John" Geiss also lived in the area. He married Sarah C. Lieuallen. John's parents were Johannes Geiss and Margaretha Christina Schombert.

My GGrandmother was Rosalia/Rosalie Geiss, born circa 1850. She immigrated from Germany and married Alfons Sommer, who was a hat maker. I believe they lived in Brooklyn, NY for most of their lives.

Their son Walter Sommer, was my grandfather. Walter was their sixth child and was born in 1883. If anyone has any info I would appreciate hearing from you.

Hello, According to ISTG, the family Geiss, Adam, Eva, Adam, Anna, and Adam Joseph, came to Baltimore from Bremen on the Ship Andalusia 22 August 1848. Hello there, I am somewhat new to this also, I've been at it a little over a year now. The Geiss family is hard to confirm who is related to who.

My Grandfather was Matthew Frank Geiss.
His Father: Mathias Geiss
His Mother: Elizabeth ?
There were three other children in his family:
Helen, Peter, Philomina

My Father: Matthew Peter Geiss has two brothers: Walter and Harold.

All lived in New York in the 1900. All I know is that they came over on the boat. Some migrated to Ohio, and most stayed in the NY area.

I know if I got a copy of my grandfather's social security application there is probably good info there, just haven't wanted to pay out the $ yet. It's not very much but ya know.

Your message caught my eye, cause we spent about 2 years in ND, as my father was in the Airforce and we were stationed at Minot.

I can tell you not to get discouraged. Even though I haven't found out alot about the Geiss's I have found tons about the other branches in my family and it has been very fullfilling.

I looked at the 1930 census and at that time Walter F. was living at home with his parents. Father is John M. Another wedding picture is listed on ebay that was purchased at the same estate sale.

Seeking info on a Geiss/Gueiss family who were members of the Wild Horse Congregation (now Athena Christian Church) in the early 1870's. Our church records identify them as "the Gueiss family." They were no longer alive or had begun attending another church by 1900. Have located a few Geiss families in the area, but we don't know if they are the ones we need. My Grandfather was Henry Wilson Geiss. My Father was Henry Harrison Geiss 1895-1960. Family actually lived in Bernville. Father's Sister-Sally Heffelfinger, Bernville.

I know very little of Geiss Family history. I doubt that we are related, but you never know.

I am looking for decendants of George Geiss, who came to NY with his parents from Bensheim, Hesse Darmstadt, circa 1852. George was the son of Georg Geiss and Katharina Alt, and was born in 1847. There were 2 other children in the family - Sarah Rosalie Geiss Sommer, born 1849 and Mary Magdalene Geiss Bieral, born in NY circa 1854.

I believe George Jr. married in NYC and had at least 2 daughters, possibly named Sarah and Lizzie. The family was living in NYC up until 1889 or so. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
