Thank you for sharing this information. I'd like to share and compare info with you as well. It's been a while since I've been on this website and recently started researching more information again about my family. We are working on taking a trip to Germany in the next year or so and wanted to find out as much information as possible. In a different message you spoke of a shrine in front of a church dedicated to the family in Diersburg. Do you know what the name of the church is? If possible I'd like to visit it. If you have any more information I'd enjoy hearing about it.

My maiden name was Giffert. I'm having difficulty discovering much information about my father's family tree. I do know that his father came here from the Austro-Hungarian empire and died in a construction accident in NYC around 1918. His name was Joseph Geffert. The spelling was changed when the children were in school in Roselle, NJ.
My father once told me that he had uncles who came to the US with his dad, but they didn't remain in contact with one another. I'd love to know if I am related to any other Gefferts.

Dear Corydglover,
I was so happy to hear from you. It was only last month I got around to researching Albert Ellenberg as I was working on all the others. Since you have ancestry. com I will use it as our common format. I might as well tell you I am sorry I have no pictures for you but I do have some info. you might like. If I could get your address or (?) I have made up a packet for you of information. Otherwise, here is some leads : When you go into the 1900 census for Hawaii, only use the name Ellenberg, not Albert Ellenberg or you won't pull up anything. Also, Be sure you use Albert R.Ellenberg not Richard Albert Ellenberg which is backwards as far as I can tell. Under 1900 census for Ellenberg you should pull up a page with Christian,(father) Mary,(mother) William, Ida, Arthur,Bertha, and Alfred who are all your Albert's siblings.Be sure to "click" on original document to see their answers, lots of info there. There's more under City Directories, Honolulu 1890,Husted's 1899 - 1901 etc. What do you want me to do about all this info? Your Great, great Grandfather (christian) was a gun pointer on a tug designed with heavy artillery, in the little battle of the Monarchy overthrow. He was at Diamond head for that. So says the Gepperts that were there with him in Hawaii at the time and in the Hawaiian National Guard. Also info on why he (Christian) came over from Germany to begin with.Seems he was a Game Warden on a Yonker's estate in Germany. Yonkers were the upper crust that had the "Von" in front of their names, anyway, his friend shot a rabbit illegally on the estate and got caught; that Grandpa Ellenberg did not turn him in caused him alot of trouble. He was told he either had to go to the local pokey or go to Hawaii that the Germans were trying to colonize at the time. Seems silly now doesn't it.So says a letter I have from his grandson who was told the story as a young man. That same young man Les,also came down to see your Albert as a child with his mother, My Augusta. He said "Mom and I went to South Carolina to see Mom's brother 'Happy' Ellenberg."(Nickname of Albert's right?)One more thing for now;the 1900 census has Albert's birthday under Ida's name. Ida was either a twin or a mistake, please believe me there are lots of mistakes. Also see Albert's WW1 registration certificate under 'Military' section Ancestry. com where it shows his birthday. Write back if you want more help. Kay

Hello! It is truly amazing to see this. I am sorry to read it 10 years late!! My great-grandfather was Richard Albert Ellenberg. He was born in Honolulu, HI in 1892 to Christian and Marie(possibly Mary) Ellenberg. He emmigrated to Tacoma, Washington in 1908 and is indeed listed on the 1910 census as a brother-in-law to August and Augusta Geppert. He came to Georgia, was drafted and then stationed at Camp (now Fort) Gordon in Augusta, Ga. That is where he met my great-grandmother and stayed the rest of his life here in Aiken, SC until his death in 1967. I don't know much of the story, I never met him and my grandmother never got around to asking. I know he had a sister but the rest is a mystery. I'm just beginning to unravel this mystery and would love to know more.

August born October of 1867 in Hamburg Germany. You can find him on the 1900, 1910, 1920, 1930, census. Augusta, his wife, is there too, and all their children. Hawaii only has the Husted's directory of the Islands but shows him as a private in the Hawaiian National guard which he was. They were married Honolulu 1895. Lot's of Ellenbergs (her maiden name) I know her mother died when she was young. Christian Ellenberg may be her father who remarried because two of Christian and Mary's children came to Ruston and stayed with her in Ruston, Wa.See 1910 census for Geppert and you will see them there. She didn't live with them in Hawaii before she married August I can't find her anywhere. She was a great lady.Would like to solve this.

I have an 8x10 photo with the Geppert Studion stamp on back. Also has an address: 205-1/2 East Locust, Des Moines Iowa. This is a photo of an elderly woman sitting in a rocking chair. She is wearing a floor length dress with a white lace collar. A childs hand can be seen resting on her arm.

There is a hand lettered number that appears to be a coded file, account, or photo number. The number is 116182-k.

Anyone have knowledge of this company and who might have possession of the photo negatives.

Thanks
Jim Clark
jclark30009@bellsouth.net

I am looking for relatives of George G. Geppert from Germany (1850-1926). George married Katherine Blum and traveled to the US around the time that my Great Grandfather Otto Geppert was born. Documents state that George was from Diersburg, Germany area. I can trace back a couple more generations, but after that I dont have any other info. George Greggory Gepperts father was George Geppert and Mother Theresia Moeller. I am intersted if we still have family in Europe. If you have any information please contact me.

Sarah J. Fisher states she had 11 children and 3 are alive in 1900. Know children are Mary A., Emma, Merrit, Mereland, Clara, Ethel, and Leone. Believe that Ethel b. March 1876, married Alvin E. Griffith b. March 1874 and lived in Detroit Michigan in 1900. Living with Ethel in 1900 are her parents, but they are back in Pentwater in 1910. Abraham and Sarah came from Williamsport, Pa., were they lived with oldest daughter Mary A. in 1860. In 1880 Sarah appears in Armstrong Twp., Lycoming Co., Pa. (near Williamsport) with all above listed children except Mary A., and Jacob 98 lives with her and is listed as father to her. Since Abraham's father should be around 96-98 and was named Jacob I believe this Jacob to be Abraham's father. Sarah's parents are Andrew and Amy Hill of Lycoming Co., near Williamsport and then Sonestow,Sullivan Co., Pa. Merrit married Minnie Theresa Geppert and had two children Glenn A. Fisher and Pauline D. Fisher. M. Theresa Geppert had two sisters that I am aware of Eva and Laura Geppert. Glenn married Gladys Brandel. Would like to connect with Sarah and Abraham's family, I have a great deal of info on Sarah's sisters.

I think there is more to this than I can put together right now. I think it is Andrew's sister Mary born in 1838 who married John Binder at Delhi's Our Lady of Victory parish at around 1855. I believe they named one of their son's after him. Andrew Binder born in 1862 married Franziska Stetter. She was the daughter of Fredrick Joseph Stetter and Anna Maria Mangold. The dates I have on these two can't be correct. I'll have to double check.

Records show Andrew Geppert and Gertrude Mangold were married 30 Oct 1867 in Cincinnati at Our Lady of Victory Church. Later, on the 1880 Ohio census, Andrew born in Ohio, was 40 years old with his wife and five children: John A., Willie S., Edward G., Matthew, and infant Francis. Gertrude Mangold was our great grandfather's younger sister. She immigrated to the US from Bavaria with her parents and siblings in 1850. Any connections?

An old picture, probably taken late 1800's early 1900's, was found in my Aunts home. No names on the back just Geppert Studios, DesMoines. Is anyone on this list familiar or connected to this Geppert? Would love to be able to identify people in photo if possible.

Linda Braden Gray
