I think that he was John Gabriel Gerald and the oldest son of Rev Gabriel and Elizabeth White Gerald. The mother along with several of her children came to South wesst Mississippi in about 1810. John could have come earlier this is on the La line and there is a grave yard in very poor repair that has two of his brothers in it.. Will tell you more if this is who you are looking for, Sandra This is in amite county just across the Wilkinson county line. Woodville is the county seat for Wilkinson county.

I'm working on a genealogical booklet about my husband's ancestors. I've traced the Geralds back to a James Gerald who was born about ?1744 and died in Horry county, SC in Nov,1798. His son Samuel is my husband's ancestor, father of Nathan Gerald, who moved his family to Wilcox County, AL and died there in 1873.
Does anybody know where James Gerald/Garrell came from? Is he the James Garrell of counties around Orange County, VA?
By the way, I've read through messages of others on the Gerald forum, and noticed most of you are related to Geralds from Wilkinson County, MS. Have any of you read the book A Mississippi Rebel in the Army of Northern Virginia by David Holt? He served in the 16th Mississippi Rgt. Co. K and mentioned a Robert Gerald, who he said had red hair. If you haven't read this book, it's really an eye opener about the Civil War.
Any information about James Gerald would be appreciated!

I am very interested in knowing more about my father's side of the family. His name is Noah Albert Gerald. He married my grandmother, Mattie Chance Gerald. He served in World War I in 1918 and died in 1971. He was born in 1891-1892. I would like to know who his parents are so that I can go from there. Thomas Sumpter Gerald was married three times(at Least) My grandmother was his last wife Nancy Jane Terrel and he is buried in a small cemetary in Smithdale community is Amite county Mississippi. One of his families were reared in Texas. Hope this helps. There is a picture of him as a young man posted. Nice looking. Cousin Sandra

I read your message about Robert Sumpter Gerald. I am researching Robert Sumpter Gerald married to Lavinia Dicie Penny. They had one son, William Arthur Gerald. I have found marriage records, but they did not give his father's name. I would like to find that perosn. It is family tales that he was the grandson of Gabriel Gerald and Elizabeth White. Thank you for your quick reply. I have been able to find that record, but I have not been able to find the name of his father. It is not listed on his bond or license and I cannot find anyone that has in in a family. I BELIEVE his grandfather was Gabriel Gerald, form SC. My sources indicate his widow Elizabeth moved to Amite County, MS. I don't know which (if any) were is father. IF anything comes your way please keep my request in you file.

There are many Thomas Sumpter Geralds and Robert Sumpter Geralds. My line is Thomas Sumpter Gerald wife Elizabeth
Haynes, Three Sons two had no children or wives Robert Sumpter Gerald married Laura J. Hough. He died in Calahan
County after the Civil War. He was my ggrandfather.

Hello, I am researching Robert Sumpter Gerald that was married to Livinia Scott "Dicie" Penny in East Feliciana Parish, LA, August 2, 1850 I know she remarried in 1854 so he may have died or left.Their issue was William Arthur Gerald (1853-1941), died in Baton Rouge. My great-grandfather was Charlie Gerald (Gerrald, Geralds) he married Harvelia Hodge somtime between the 1910 and 1920 census. He was born approximately some time in 1894. I can't find any information on him, nor my grandfather William Boyd Gerald (B. 27 Aug 1919, D. 8 Oct 1968) Except for maybe 2 censuses.

My father believes that Charlie ran away from home when he was about 14 years old. The 1910 census finds him living in the Hodge household as a boarder at age 16.

I'm at a standstill. I can't find any other info. Please help.

I've been told Robert Gerald came from England to Ireland then to America. He fought for the south in the Civil War. He married Pauline Thomson. She was the granddaughter of James Thomson who came from Scotland, where he had royal land grants, to Beaufort Co., SC. I was told he owned considerable land there. On December 20, 1871 Jas B Hixon married Augusta Fitzgerald. I know nothing about Jas, Augusta may be Louisa Augusta, b 1851, daughter of Jesse and Martha Hood (Fitz) Gerald(s). The name was originally Fitzgerald and the Fitz was dropped and sometimes there is an s on the end and sometimes not.

I believe they had one daughter, Elizabeth Elline who is my gggrandmother.

William Robert Gerald was my great-great grandfather. He married Eliza Price of Montgomery County, Virginia in 1856. He may have been born in what is now Monroe Co. WV. I know that he lived in Giles County, Va. and served in the final stages of the Civil War. I am unable to determine his parentage. Several sources lead me to Julia Pearis Gerald and Col. Garland Gerald. Other sources lead me to Garland Sims Gerald and Juliet Trigg Gerald. William may have been born in1824. There is also a possiblity of him being born in Madison Co. Va. in Pike County Miss was the son of Thomas Sumpter
Gerald and Elizabeth Haynes,his first wife. His two brothers
were Killed in the war and he was wounded and captured,
so I don't call that lucky. I don't have much on the Geralds

Ernie, There were many errors in this Line of Geralds/Elizabeth Haynes. Most of them were caused by Eugene Gerald of Leeland,Miss.
There were only four children and three of them did not have any children. I trace the Robert Sumpter/Laura J.Hough
line because they were my grandmothers parents.If you
will go to Wilkerson County,Miss site and then to Wilkerson
Rifles you will see the correct story of Robert Sumpter Gerald
and his war record.
It has been a big job responding to all of the wrong information about RSJ and LJH. Most of the records showed
her as Laura J. Huff, and I can prove that is wrong.
