My great-grandfather had a brother named Elias. Their surname is Carreno. We were told after finding some family documents, that one of Geronimo's wives was a Carreno. This is my dad's great-grandmother. We have been trying to find more information about our families lineage.

I am a 47 yr old male. My mother was Apache and passed away when I was 2 years old. My father was Northern Cheyenne. I am not looking to get enrolled just curious about my mother's genealogy. I was hoping there was a family tree out there somewhere that I could reference.

Are you male or female? If female, you should probavly start with a DNA FINGERPRINT test. This particular type of DNA test will check your male (fathers) line as well as female ( mothers) line. Other DNA testing shows female line only, or your mothers side of the family..

I see you have all written some about Geronimo, well here is my story, my X girlfriend is a direct discendent, she has a photo of her grandfather sitting on Geronimo's lap, from what she says this was her grand dad farther brother her grandfathers mother is the one who saw his horse by the creek the morning he died, she was raised in a town call Apache south of Oklahoma city, her grandfather who raised her was born a prisoner of war at Fort Sill, when we lived together she had his plack that granted him his freedom on the wall, my only regret with her is we never went to her home to meet her grandmother and grandfather, te girl I'm talking about now is a teacher here in Bakersfield, Ca., from what she tells me her grandfather gave all the old photographs to some museum near there home, don't think any of this will help but thought I put in my few cents.

I did right click on the picture. No go. I then right clicked, copied and pasted in another location and clicked save as, but it does not give me the option to save as a jpeg, etc. I checked the details of the picture and it is a jpeg image; .003 and 303 KB, so it should be able to send, but it won't. I tried everything. The last picture I sent you of my grandmother, Angelina, is the same and went without a hitch. Don't know what else to do. Maybe this particular website has more restrictions that I am not aware of, but what??

My grandmother, Angelina Aragon (Valverde is the maiden name) told me Geronimo was my great great great Uncle. She informed me we are of Chiricahua and she showed me the newspaper she still carried with her showing Geronimo's picture on the front cover. My grandmother passed away many years ago, and I have bee trying to find information to confirm all of what I was told. If you were to see my grandmother's picture, you'd see such a strong resemblance to Geronimo. Still researching. Input is appreciated. Thank you.

Shocked and disappointed at the lack of disrepect and helpfulness concerning Geronimo

I spend lots of time on this site reading and do very little if ever in posting, but I can hold back no more.
As a true descendant, yes, I said true descendant of Apache Geronimo I cannot believe the lack of respect that I see here one this site concerning his lineage. I am the great granddaughter of Geronimo and the granddaughter of Chief Two bears, the daughter Joseph Little Tree.

I do know for a fact that Geronimo did not lead a monogamous life after the death of his first wife, he fathered many children that were half white, half Mexican, half Black, and half of whatever hostages were taken from other tribes.

When a person is looking for their roots, why be so rude as some of these posts have been. If your opinion is just mean spirited, keep it to yourself. Suggest that the individual participate in the ongoing DNA testing and find out for sure. Amazingly there are few males that come forward to find out for sure,so the gene pool is very small at this time.

Why not be helpful and find out if you have relatives out there that can expand your family heritage and lineage. It is for sure that we all need family and what would be better than a big family.

Okay I know that I have spouted off a bit here and for that I truly do apologize to those of you, that are ever so helpful and willing to help others.

I will leave with a bit of wisdom from my grandfather Two Bears:

"Anyone can say that they are Native American.
Some can even say what quantum of Native American they are.
But it is not quantity of Native American that counts it the QUALITY of Native American you are that matters."

Bear Longbow
snowdogsinging@aol.com

Geronimo descendant

I have come across an interesting story and I am hard-pressed to find confirmation anywhere. When the Mexicans came and murdered Geronimo's wife and three children, there was a fourth child. The Mexicans took her and on their way back to where they came from they left the child off at a trading post in Uvalde run by a man named John Blalack or Blalock. On the 1900 census there is a child by the name of Julia Centennial Blalack living with John Blalack and his wife. She was three years old. Has any one else heard this story? Since I am not a Geronimo researcher I am just hearing now that there are a lot of people who claim his ancestry.

Appears in "The Wapanucka Press" 13 October 1904, Wapanucka, Johnston County, Indian Territory, now Oklahoma

TIRED OF THE FAIR

No More Attraction at St. Louis for Geronimo, and He Will Return

Lawton: Geronimo, who has been at the world's fair for several months, has asked permission of the superintendent of the Indian School on the fair grounds to return to Fort Sill, and the leave has been granted. He will leave in a few days, and will, within a week, arrive at his old home, where he loves to roam about unmolested by anyone, and to do as he pleases. He gives as his reason for wanting to return that he is tired of seeing the crowds in St. Louis, and also that he is homesick. Day after day he sat in the Indian building beating on his crude drum, singing his Indian song, which no one has been able to interpret, and occasionally writing his name in the notebook of a collector of mementoes of the fair.

Geronimo is Converted and become a Methodist

Appears in "The Wapanucka Press" 23 July 1903, Wapanucka, Johnston County, Indian Territory, now Oklahoma

GERONIMO IS CONVERTED

Aged Indian Warrior Has Become a Methodist

Lawton: Chief of the apaches, Geronimo, has become a Christian. A large tabernacle has been erected in a large tent upon Medicine Creek, near Lawton, in which is being carried on a revival of the various tribes of Indians.

Geronimo, old, bent and broken from his tolls of many chases, and weighted down by his many warlike deeds, and now imprisoned within the soldier's reserve, was present and listened to the sermons which are preached by a white minister and interpreted by one of the tribe. They told how an Indian could receive Christ as his saviour and pass into the real "happy hunting grounds." An invitation was then extended to have all come forward and acknowledge their religion. Geronimo, with a number of his tribe, came forward and told of their wrongdoings. They were then taken to Medicine Creek and baptized. And now Geronimo, "the warrior terribe," has professed himself a Methodist.

Geronimo, Apache Chief, Roped Steer In Short Order

Appears in "The Ravia Tribune" 24 November 1904, Ravia, Johnston County, Indian Territory, now Oklahoma

SHOWED ALL OLD TIME SKILL

Geronimo, Apache chief, Roped Steer In Short Order

The monotony of the quiet life which Geronimo, the Apache Chief has been leading was varied yesterday with a tinge of the strenuous life of his youth. He participated in a Wild West show. Geronimo was the guest of the proprietor, and put in his appearance dressed in full regalia of the days of his former greatness.

The old man was given a good horse and lasso, and a steer was turned loose in the arena, and Geronimo was told to rope and tie it. Starting his horse at full gallop, the chase began. After circling himself around, the old chieftain whirled the lasso and made the throw. The rope settled around the steer's neck at the first attempt. In an instant the roper was off his horse, and with all the cunning of his youth proceeded to tie the animal fast and sound, accomplishing the feat in a very short time. The exhibition clearly demonstrated the fact that in spite of his 76 years he still possesses the strength and agility of youth. St. Louis Globe-Democrat

Mary Jane was born around 1862. I would appreciate any help. I can not give any more information than that. I do know that Mary Jane's parents took on the name Jack and either Martha or Mary Clark. I am having trouble trying to find Mary Jane. Thank you, Gayleen
