Hi! I have just joined this discussion. My Great Grandfather's name was Shubbel (Shubel, Shuebel) Harrison or Harris GeRoy, born May 19, 1860. He married Beatrice Proper, had the following children: Nora, Winnie, Sadie, Perry and Nelly, and lived, I believe, in the late 1800s early 1900s in or near the town of Menomonie, Wis. (Dunn County). We have pictures of a boy called Marlow. It was indicated on the back of one that he was Will GeRoy's oldest son and that he had been adoped by a family called Campbell. One picture was taken in Rockford, Washington. Do you think we are talking about the same family? Shubbel's family emigrated to Carmangay, Alberta in 1907.

Cheryl Campbell
Calgary, Alberta, Canada

To all of you Geroy family researchers: William Geroy was my G-G Grandmother Sarah Geroy Downing's nephew. Her brother Allen was his father. Allen died when William before William was 10 years old. His mother Jenny Webster Geroy then married my G-G Grandmother's nephew, Selden Downing. I recently found out that William's grandfather, Julius had a brother, Joseph who was about 10 years younger that William's grandfather. The most information I have beyond Julius and Joseph is that their parents were Francis and Agnes Geroy. I would be interested in the information all of you have learned about the Geroy family and will gladly share anything I can about my side of the family.

Please contact me at Ann Borgman annb232@aol.com

Tracie,
I think I can help a little more with Joseph and Sarah Geroy now. I was searching through my Great Grandmother's birthday book and ran across Angie Geroy Milliron's birth year. I had been working on a hunch that Joseph Geroy and Julius Geroy were brothers and now I know that they were. Julius Geroy was born in St. John Co., Ontario, Canada to Francis and Agnes Geroy in 1823. Joseph was born in 1833, probably in Ontario as well. Sarah's maiden name was Phernetton and was most likley born in Leeds Co., Ontario. Her year of birth is unknown.

Ann Borgman
annb232@aol.com

Hi Tracie,
When I first began my research I was informed by my father that our GEROY family fwas from French Canada. I am a descendant of Julius GEROY born in St. John Co., Ontario on February 7, 1823. He married Julia TRICKEY in Leeds Co., Ontario, Canada on September 8, 1846. Their children, Allen, Sarah and Shubel were all born in Leeds Co., Ontario. In 1862, Julius decided to try his luck farming in the United States and moved his family to Dunn Co., WI where he resided until his death in February 1906. Julius' parents were Francis and Agnes Geroy. From what is known about Julius, his parents may have died when Julius was about 12 years old. Although I don't know for sure, I believe he had siblings. Since Francis' parents, Joseph and Sarah also moved to the United States in 1862 and Franklin and Hilton were both born in Dunn Co., WI., I wonder if Francis was a nephew to Julius. Perhaps Joseph and Julius moved to this country together. Have you found anything more on your Geroy family that may connect our families?

Ann Borgman
annb232@aol.com

My Great-great grandmother's first marriage was to a Stephen Geroy. They were from Canada (Quebec) and had several children. One is a John Geroy born in 1856 in Quebec, Canada and came to the US in the same year. He married an
Annett and had two sons that I have found. Ellis born in 1879 and Albert born in 1881 (according to the 1900 Census). I have Ellis's obit notice. John Geroy was born 4 Feb 1856 per my Family's bible. I am interested if anyone is
acquainted with this Geroy name.
Thank you
Nancy Jess
Mesa, Arizona

Hello, I came across your message as I was searching for information on how to get a copy of the book: Sandridge Settlers. I was recently in Warroad, Minn researching my father's family and the librian in Warroad Public Library suggested this book. I am now home in Rhode Island and am not able to find any reference for obtaining a copy.

Actually I do not really know if the book would be of help to me. My father's family were homesteaders in 1917 in the area now known as Beltrami Island State Forest near Roosevelt Minn. (grandfather Jean Vaughn Steele and grandmother Iva Noyes Steele) (also researching Art Smith who was my grandmother's second husband)

So, my first question would be if this book might discuss history of the above mentioned homesteaders. And if so, do you know how I might obtain a copy?

Thank you , Karla Steele

Hi: I am looking for a STEPHEN or STEVEN GEROY who was married to my greatgrandmother who had a son named John Geroy (I know nothing about these people except names). My Grgrandmother was Angeline Matherly (I think) born 12 Sep 1830 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Died in Sullivan Pa on 16 Apr 1898 (age 67 yrs 7 mos 4days). I have a memorial clipping of Ellis Geroy b: 18 Jun 1878 d: 12 July 1907 age 29 yrs 24 days. I think he is the son of John Geroy.
Clipping also has picture of Ellis. There are other children for Steven and Angeline Geroy but not sure how many or what gender.
Any help on this line would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Tracie,
I can't tell you where Sarah and Joseph Geroy are from, but I can tell you where they are buried: Clatsop Plains Pioneer Cemetery, Clatsop County, Oregon. Their tombstones read as follows: Joseph Geroy, Mar 20, 1833, May 25, 1903; Sarah Geroy, "Age 80 yrs, 5 mos 5 ds." , [died] Apr 16, 1902. (No birthdate is given for Sarah.)

I am currently making a transcription of this cemetery by physically walking it. I'm not finished yet, but when completed it will be posted as a part of the US GenWeb Archives via rootsweb.com under the Tombstone Transcription Project for Oregon.

If you're interested, I can take digital images of the grave markers and e-mail them to you.

Best regards,
Kate

Francis GEROY married Hester HILTON, daughter of Albion HILTON and Mary CURTIS, 8/18/1889. I have Hester's ancestors, but would like to find out more about Francis.

Francis GEROY was born 25 May 1865 or 1866 in Wisconsin to Joseph and Sarah GEROY. He had, as far as I can tell, two brothers, Sidney and James, and one sister, Angeline. His parents immigrated to America in 1862 from Canada.

Francis and Hester ended up in Oregon where they had their youngest Zyrl Vernon GEROY who is my great grandfather.

I would like to find out where Joseph and Sarah came from - they are listed as being French Canadian in the census records.

Regards,

Tracie Clawson
Washington State

Zyrl Vernon GeRoy (my grandfather) was born in Seaside, OR in 1899, 1900, or 1901 (the courthouse burnt down and he kidded about his age - my money is on 1900). The GeRoys move to Everett, WA. Shortly after WWII moved to Camas, WA where he died. His father was Francis GeRoy who I only recall living in Everett, WA. There is some family lore that he was from Maine or Canada. Francis and Constance had 3 sons and 1 daughter, Hilton (who after WWI moved to New Jersery), Lyle who lived in Goldendale, WA, and Zyrl. I don't recall much about Aunt Hester, or if she married.

Zyrl GeRoy and Fay Drydon had two daughters, Barbara Ann (1926) and Jeanne (1928 or 29). They live in Vancouver and Washougal, WA respectively.

Hope this adds something to your reseach. For the MN GeRoy, Christopher Columbus Sebers, my g, g, great grandfather fought with the MN Regiment in the Civil War. It really does turn into a small world. Happy Holidays to all.
Curtis,
I had a chance to talk to my mother and she recalled that Marlowe had a son named Donald. Are you familiar with a "Bud" Geroy? My Dad had a little contact with him, by mail and he was in touch with my aunt, Lola Skoien, who lived in Albany, OR (now deceased). I thought he was also a son to Marlowe. I will be going to my mother's home in Roseau, MN for Easter and I will look for my dad's files on the Geroy family tree. I know he had quite a bit of information. As I find information, I will send it to you. I, myself, have 9 brothers and sisters ranging in age from my oldest brother who is 57 to my youngest sister who is 32(3 brothers, 6 sisters). I am right in the middle. I live in Minneapolis,MN, which is about 6 and one-half hours south of where I grew up in rural northern MN. I will let you know what I find out on my trip north..
Annette Gerooy

I've seen the Naples Fl. Geroy on the web, maybe I'll email him. My father is Donald Marlowe Geroy and his father was Donald Eugene Geroy and of course Marlowe would be next in line. I'm 24 years old and a Sargeant in the Marine Corps down in San Diego. I've got a 20 yr old brother who's in Oregon going to college.
Well, This is pretty exciting. I thought perhaps that you were either a grandson of Marlowe's or at least a relative of his somehow. Yes, my Dad, Ray, did indeed write Sandridge Settlers. If you have had a chance to look through it, you will see a small passage about William Geroy, who would be your great grandfather's biological dad, as well as that of my dad. He died before I was born. My sister, Holly, has just purchased some family tree software so she is interested and working on the Geroy family tree, as well. My dad was very interested in this also. In the process he was contacted by Bob Geroy from Naples, FL. Bob has also spent a lot of effort in developing the Geroy family tree, What kind of information are you specifically looking for? I am sure that I can give you quite a bit on the MN Geroys. Just FYI, I saw you got a reply from Danny and Jill Geroy. Dan's grandfather was Clayton Geroy, another half-brother to Marlowe. In fact, Clayte died unexpectedly about the same time as
Marlowe did. Let me know what else you are looking for. Great to talk to you!
Annette

Annette,

My full name is Curtis Marlowe Geroy! From what I know, your Fathers' half brother, Marlowe Geroy, would be my great grandfather.
Is your father, Ray Geroy, the Geroy who wrote the small book about the Sandridge Settlers? Write back when you can, I'm trying to put together a small family tree as a hobby. Hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely, Curtis M. Geroy

I am the daughter of Raymond Geroy. My dad was born in 1914 and died in 1997 at the age of 82. He spent a majority of his life in nortwestern Minnesota, Roseau County. I know he had a half brother Marlowe whom I thought had relocated from Minnesota to California. Is that a relative of yours?
