My Great-great-great grandfather was Angelo Raffaele Giannone, born in Montella 1808, d. 1877. He was the only son of Saverio Giannone (1779-1841), I don't know if Saverio had any brothers.

Anyhow, Angelo Giannone married Rachele Pizza (1809-1879).
They had 8 children:
1834-Guiseppe A. (male)
1836-Maria Teresa (my G-G-Grandmother, married Pasquale Cianciulli)
1838-Generosa S. (male)
1841-Maria F. (female-married Ferdinando Gaetano DiMarco)
1846-Tomasso (male)
1846-Angela (female)
1851-Antonia (female)
1856-Saverio (male)

Maybe check the 4 males in the family and see if you are related. It would most likely be their children (if there is a relation) that would have migrated to the USA.

Gerald,

I'm not altogether sure what to say, and can only assume the Joseph you're looking for is, in fact, my grandfather. I, myself, was searching for information about him, since I have none, and the family has dwindled down. I'm hoping we're talking about the same man, and if you could email me directly, I'd be grateful. It's been 4 years since you posted this, so I'm hoping it's not too late.

Michele Galloza (mother's name is Giannone).

Hi Lou. Was wondering if you had any connection to an Agrippina Giannone from Pacentro. She was born ther in 1866, and married Ismaele Ciccone. I am connected to the Ciccone line, but I have not been able to find out much on Ismaele and Agrippina's family. Her parents were Giuseppe and Maria Galterio if that helps. Ismaele and Agrippina settled in the Bronx, but had family in Pittsburgh and New Jersey.
Thanks, Mike.
WW2 Veteran Joseph Giannone

I am searching for a veteran of WW2 who served in the 561st Field Artillery Battalion of the US Army. He would have been born between 1903 and 1928.

The 561st FA Bn served in Europe starting with their landing on Utah Beach on June 30, 1944, and most of the unit left Europe from Le Harve, France in July, 1945. They barely avoided capture at the Battle of the Bulge in late 1944.

I have the following on Joseph Giannone:
rank PVT
serial number 12008364
county/state at time of enlistment Morris/NJ
place of enlistment Newark, NJ
date of enlistment 8/5/40
native state NJ
birth year 1918

There were about 500 men in the battalion, and I started with a roster of the battalion that had been developed some years ago by living veterans at the time. I have first names, middles initials, and last names on most of the men. There are some with no middle initial and a few where all I've got is a last name.

I have the county/state of origin at the time of enlistment in the Army only if it is shown above. I do have all the data I can gather from the Social Security Death Index, the 1930 Census, the NARA AAD database, and the Registry page of the National World War 2 Memorial web site. In all of these sites, I usually get multiple listings for any name I enter, so that by itself doesn't always narrow my search to an individual.

I have many letters out to people based on the little information I do have for a growing number of the names on my roster. Addresses for those people were taken from Internet "White Pages."

My real interest is where are these men today? And in cases where the veteran is deceased, where are any descendants or family members?

Wow! I've been reading the message boards and find it very interesting that almost every Giannone came from Italy to New York and then to Connecticut or Delaware, lol. Well, I was lucky enought to marry into the Giannone family, but we are centered in Southern California. My husband's grandfather moved here with his family from New York, his name is Frank. His wife's maiden name is Lancizero and their family is here also. Would love to hear from any relatives!

Mario, I can't believe that our parents have the exact same names. My father is from Naples and he is Angelo Joseph Giannone. My mother died in 1999 from a brain tumor here in my home at the age of 86. She was beautiful! Her name is Carmella!
I am also a liturgical musician and work about 10 hours a week throughout the diocese. I have been doing this for the past 30 years. It is a wonderful side job, pays well, and helps keep in touch with God. I also sing 5 times per year with a swing band. It is great fun but hard work.
I have a husband who is a funeral director and two girls, 22 and 24 who are nursing students. My father lives here with us.
My regular career is a difficult one. I am a grief therapist with a local hospice and funeral home. I also travel locally offering workshops, inservices, and conferences on the subject of personal/profssional loss and the grief journey. This has been my work for the past 11 years. You have to have alot of fun in order to NOT burn out.
Please wriet again and let me hear more about you.
Have you ever been to Delaware?

My parents are still
kicking it - Angelo and Carmella - in there seventies but act like they're 50ish. God bless there both healthy.

I'm a professional commercial photographer - been in business 7 yrs. (on my own) Also am
a musician, writer. Have my own recording studio.

We live about 40 miles outside of Chicago.
We love it out here.

Leave a message - it's always good to here from a Giannone!!!
Dear Lou, I really enjoyed your message. Ah, musicians! And Italian Musicians at that! Do you have the talent? Of course you do. Is there an Italian alive that can't sing, dance or just love music?
My father is Angelo...from Naples. He is 88 and a real doll. He lives here in Newark, DE with us. He smokes cigars and eats good food and goes to the race track and church. He goes with me on alot of small business trips. His mother's maiden name was Cappucci from Ufema. (that may be spelled incorrectly.) My mother died last March from an brain tumor. She and Dad moved in Sept. of 98 and she died here at home. He maiden name was Cicatelli and her mother"s maiden name was Datino.
Please write again. I will be in West Virgina next week on business so I win't be able to answer you until the end of the week.
Ciao and God Bless.................Regina

Our Surname

Hi there, funny thing to share a name with people you've never seen and still, there's a slight possibility that we are related somehow...I just wanted to give my contribution to this post:

My name is Luca and I'm still 100% Italian, as both of my parents are from Sicily. However we live in Germany, Frankfurt now, and that's where I'm working. My parents are from the city Modica, provincia di Ragusa, in South Sicily, that's where our common surname is originated - in Sicily. My pa's name is Giorgio, my grandpa's Giuseppe (like my middle name). Just in case anybody's interested :-) How many generations are between you guys and the first generation that came to the US?

E poi per ultimo: non credo che sappiate parlare l'italiano, o erro?
Luca
