married 23 November Abbotshall 1834. Children Robert, James, Edward, Sophia, Henry and Margaret. Edward, Sophia and Henry arrived in New Zealand 1859, 1860 and 1879. Any information on remaining family requested.

Hello,
Thomas Gibb and "Tack" or "Tacky" as some call her were my great-grandparents.
I have information which I will be glad to share with you about his family.
Off the top of my head (I have this research, but not immediately accessable) they, in addition to the children you named had daughters Elizabeth, Margaurite, and Myrtle and a son Harry.
All are deceased.
Send an email and I'll provide you the rest of what I have.

John Cochrane GIBB born 1830 in Uphall, WLN to George GIBB and Helen CUNNINGHAM.... He married Marion BARCLAY b.1832 of Fawnspark, Abercorn Parish, WLN, daughter of James BARCLAY and Elizabeth BISHOP in 1857.

They had 5 children George b.1861, James b.1862, Elizabeth b.1864 - d.1933 at Clackmannan, Helen b.1865 - d.1866, and John b.1869..

John C. GIBB was the station agent at Langholm, Dumfries, SCT for the NorBrit R.R. from about 1880 till his retirement in 1902, he passed away at Langholm in 1911, predesseced by his wife Marion in 1905.

Hi all,
looking for further information on Wilson Gibb born Newton Scotland abt 1821. He married Jane Peacock and moved to New Hrtley in 1862. He died in 1866 ~ an accident at Hester Pit. There was an inquest but I have no idea how to access this or get further information. Any help greatly appreciated.

My ancestor, William Johnston/e came to Canada circa 1820 to work for his cousins the Torrances in Quebec. My Afr-American gggg-grandmother was born in Florida around 1852, date of death uncertain. Her husband was Hamilton Polite, also Afr-American, born around 1848 in Florida, died about 1943. They lived mostly around Suwannee county and were married July 27, 1867. They had many children, including a son named Sam.

I know nothing about my grandmother's siblings (if any) or parents, but I was told there was an Emily Gibbs living next to my grandparents in 1900. Emily was born in March 1837. Emily's husband was John Gibbs, their children were Martha, Phebe, Clarasy, Lucy, Linda and Sarah.

How can I find out if Emily or John Gibbs were connected to Sylvia? Thanks.

Hello, I am looking for descendants of Thomas Wilson Gibb and Lula "Tack" McLain.

I am a descendant of Lula's younger brother, Oliver Bynum McClain. They where born in Carbon Hill, Walker County, Alabama to Hugh McLain and Pensey Prudence "Teenie" Welch.

Lula had the following children with Thomas: William, Johnney, Josephine, Mitchell, James, Tommie, and Ervin.

She died in 1933 in Birmingham and Thomas died there in 1943.

I have a marraige for her to a Lionel Percy Robson Sayers in 1931 Kirkmichael Dumfries Scotland
In 1945 Nancy dies she is now married to a William Jennings
I do not know what happened to the marriage to Lionel or when she actaully married William I believe she might have found out that the marriage to Lionel was based on lies
When Lionel married Nancy he was already married to a margaret Christie he also had deserted the Army

I recently purchased a book "THE STORY OF THE GIBBS...From One Generation to Another or Family Album"
This book was written by Lettice Milne Rae. It was privately printed by T. & A. Constable LTD., Hopetoun Street, Edinburgh in 1961.
This book is about the GIBB/GIB family, not GIBBS as I had thought when I purchased it online. If anyone is interested in information from this book please let me know.
It begins with THE GIBS OF CARRIBER 1428-1613,
which were the GIBS in Scotland, chiefly in the counties of Ayr, Dumfries, Fife, Linlithgow, and Lanark before the sixteenth century. Later on, some Gibbs went to London.
In the back of the book is a family tree beginning with William Gibb(1736-1791) who married Alison Gilbreath Nov. 27, 1760.
Other Gibb(s) in this book include William's son John Gibb(1776-1850), John's son Aleander Gibb (1804-1867) and Alexander's son Easton Gibb (1841-1916). There are pictures also of these four Gibb men. I wish that they WERE my ancestors because of the vast amount of information, but maybe I can help someone else.

My g-grandfathers sister Marion married John Cochrane GIBB (son of George Gibb and Helen Cunningham) in 1857 ...

John C. Gibb, retired as station master (NorBrit) at Langholm after 29 and a half years in 1902. He died at Langholm, DMF, Scotland January 02, 1911, his wife Marion (nee Barclay) had predeceased him on December 20, 1905.

They had 5 children:
George b.1861
James b.1862
Elizabeth b.1864
Helen C. b.1865
John b.1869

I know that their is a connection between the Gibbs family and the Cassells family. Does anyone know anything about that connection. Robert Gibb was a bachelor, a physician originally from Edinburgh, Scotland. He owned property in Georgetown and Charleston,South Carolina and had 60 negroes.

Hello my name is Andrew Sayers i've already log info before about the above lionel p sayer ( sayers) I beleive that this is the same person My fathers name is Alexander Gordon Sayers (deceased) His sister is called Margaret Gibson Sayers (Decreased) there father was a man called Lionel Percy Sayers who was in the east surrey reg Gs/10563 it states his regiment number on my fathers birth certifcate who left my Grandmother back in the late 20s.The name Robson is also in my families name. Just wondering if this is the same person as i've been looking for lionel p sayers also . Seeking the children/grandchildren of Josephine Elizabeth GIBB Dairy Shop Assistant, who married John Brown BAIN Butcher's Asssistant, who was born on 21 November 1914 at 44 Glebe St. Glasgow.

John was the son of David BAIN (died WWl) and Thomasina BROWN. Mother re-wed in 1919 to Robert STRANG.

They married on the 17th August 1934 at The North Barony Church Glasgow Lanarkshire. On marriage registry both gave their residence as 6 Stanhope St. Glasgow.

I've no further info on Josephine. Lots on John's ancestry.

I descend from William Torrance, Thomas Torrance's brother. I have found an OPR that shows that Benjamin Torrance another brother was christened in Sorn, Ayreshire. It gives the father as Andrew. I have records that show that Benjamin and his mother came to New York then to Canada. I have yet to find any records for Andrew( or Thomas) Torrance to confirm either the birth year of 1735 or the death in 1805. Those dates are the ones listed in in the book, Torrence and Allied Familes. I do have considerable data on the five brothers that settled in CAnada in the early 1800s plus some Gibb information. Death Record:

Christina Gibb, wife of Robert Gibb, late farmer, December 9, 1869 at Gateside, Auchinleck, Ayr, Scotland at age 69. She was the daughter of James Samson a farmer (deceased) and Jane Smith Samson (deceased). She died of dyspepsia which she had for several years, combined with the fact that she was not of sound mind for the past 3 months. Her son Charles Gibb signed for her death certificate.

hi my gibb connection is through archibald and jane's son john gibb born abt 1835 in pasiley renfrewshire. he married my relation isabella stirlig robertson in 1865 in logie perth. john's father was a commercial traveller.
john died in 1924 in dunbarton.
he had a son archibald george dec 1872 in currie edinburgh. most of the other children were born in england(Hackney london, Shoreditch and sunderland)
archibald jnr died in 1949 in glasgow infirmary.
he married janet morton(2nd) and 1st margaret ramsay duncan. they had 3 children i know of.
evelyn duncan b 1899 kelvin glasgow d 1912, hugh duncan b 1901 d 1970 same place and isabella stirling b about 1904 d 1993.

I have just started on this branch. I am looking for Richard Gibb m. Mary Weir. I don't where they were born or married. I do know that they were in Linlithgow in 1819 as they had a son, Richard on 10 Oct 1819. This son married Margaret Simpson 27 Jan 1844 in Polmont, Stirling and had daughter Agnes b.19 Apr 1852 in Polmont, Stirling. Agnes married Alex Baxter on 07 Jun 1878 in Burn Row, Parish of Slamannan, County of Stirling, Scotland.

I'm interested in any info about this family or anything that could connect to them.

Verne L. Gibb

The Kansas City paper had an article in it today about how the Army was using DNA to help identify remains of MIAs. They are looking for relatives of Verne L. Gibb who died in WW II. According to Rootsweb sources he had several brothers and sisters:

Hazel Gibb (married Lew Max Hinman)
Cecil Elrod Gibb
Mary Alice Gibb (married Howard Dye)

If any of these people are still alive they need to contact the Kansas City Star to put them in touch with the military authorities.

The Gibb Family in PA

Every two years or so I have to torture myself and post something regarding my search for information pertaining to the Gibb family in PA.

I have followed various leads each time ending in a dead-end. There are various people that have been very helpful, but they too arrive at the same dead-end . . . a place where there is no proof of this person's existence or from whence he came if he did in face exist. I'm starting to wonder if this guy actually existed or if the one or two references we have to him are actually incorrect or based upon some type of nick name. I have heard about a Hiram Gibb but have not been able to definitively link him to Lancaster and the offspring that are attributed to Henry.

So, here it goes . . . I need ANY information on a Henry Gibb who (assumably) lived in Lancaster County in the late 1700s. I don't care about children, wives, etc. I'm assuming that I'm starting from scratch with no preconceived notions. In fact, I'll take ANY information on ANY Gibb that lived in Lancaster County in the late 1700s. To be best of my knowledge this family is not derived from the surname Gibbs, but I'll take that info as well.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!
