MRS. ANN QUANTOCK
JANUARY 15, 1942

Mrs. Ann Quantock, resident of Livingston County for many years, died at 1 o'clock Monday afternoon, January 12, at her home northwest of Chatsworth. She was 87 years old and had been ill about three weeks.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the home, being conducted by the Rev. Homer Delap, pastor of the Methodist church of Forrest. Interment was made in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.
Ann Gibb was born in Somerset, England, July 1, 1854, the daughter of Samuel and Mary Gibb. Four daughters and three sons survive her: Mrs. Elizaeth Erickson, Gardner; Mrs. Myrthl Faragher, Chatsworth; Mrs. Lola Yants, Cowden; Fred, Argyle, Michigan; Samuel, Wesley and Miss Jennie, all at home.

hi - I have newspaper clippings on the twins Margaret & Mary Gibb that my deceased grandmother had saved. I have possession of the genealogy books. I do not know why she saved these clippings. She was Jeannie Cruickshank from Scotland & married in RI to Sidney Lees. In my family tree program I have a William Forbes Gibb married to Mary Webster Rae born 1849 death 1917. Just wondering if this William Gibb is related to the twins father John Rae Gibb. I only see one family tree on Ancestry.com belonging to the user MrsLongPod. Hi Ron- James Gibb and Jane Davidson are also my great-grandparents. My father was Adam Alexander Gibb. My name is Terri Campen. My son-in-law has this site and asked me to add all that I could for him- I have more time. I am trying to find out more about the scandal that caused my grandfather to divorce and leave Maui in about 1929 or 1930. I am searching for more information about the genealogy of Daniel Gibb who operated a merchant business in San Francisco, California during the 1850s. I am researching the history of the New Idria Mine located in San Benito County, California.
Daniel Gibb, of “Daniel Gibb & Co.” along with his brother William Gibb purchased the original lease for the New Idria Quicksilver Mine, and after large capital investments, brought the mine into successful production in 1858. New Idria Quicksilver Mine quickly become the worlds fourth largest mercury mine in the world, and eventually became the largest producer in the world.
Here is what little I know about Daniel Gibb:
His office operated offices in San Francisco and Glasgow, Scotland, and also in association with “Watson, Thompson & Co.” (Glasgow) and “John Thompson, Watson & Co.” (Valparaiso).
Daniel was born in Scotland around 1820. He immigrated to San Francisco around 1849. Daniel visited home to marry Helen Walker Johnstone (daughter of Rev. Robert John Johnstone) on her 16th birthday (November 14, 1855) and returned to San Francisco. He later returned to retrieve his elderly mother, Sarah. Daniel and Helen (aka Ellen) had one son, Thomas Murray Gibb (born 1857). Daniel died (December 17, 1861) during a third trip to Glasgow, Scotland. His brother, William died in San Francisco a year later. A possible second child, Agnes, may have been born after his death. Following his death, Helen married Robert Knox. Following his death, his financial affairs fell into bankruptcy and his business taken over by decedents of James Alexander Forbes in San Francisco and Alexander Forbes in Scotland. Following death, his mother (assumed), Sarah seems to acquire the name “Wedderspoon,” perhaps a maiden name or a late-age marriage (doubtful).
The 30-year old Daniel appears to be quite wealthy and well educated suggesting a large inheritance or powerful business associations ... his sudden appearance and success in international trade suggests the latter.
I am hoping someone might share information about his Scotland family, education and possible relationships with the Forbes family.

As part of the Bee Gees - short for the Brothers Gibb - they created dance floor classics like "Stayin Alive," ''Jive Talkin'," and "Night Fever" that can still get crowds onto a dance floor.
The catchy songs, with their falsetto vocals and relentless beat, are familiar pop culture mainstays. There are more than 6,000 cover versions of the Bee Gees hits, and they are still heard on dance floors and at wedding receptions, birthday parties, and other festive occasions.
Robin Gibb, 62, died Sunday "following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery," his family announced
Gibb was the second disco-era star to die this week. Donna Summer - who earned the Queen of Disco title by singing "Last Dance" and "I Feel Love" - died of cancer in Florida on Thursday.

The Bee Gees, born in England but raised in Australia, began their career in the musically rich 1960s but it was their soundtrack for the 1977 movie "Saturday Night Fever" that sealed their success. The album's signature sound - some called it "blue-eyed soul" - remains instantly recognizable more than 40 years after its release.
The album remains a turning point in popular music history, ending the hard rock era and ushering in a time when dance music ruled supreme. It became one of the fastest-selling albums of all time with its innovative fusion of harmony and pulsing beats. The movie launched the career of a young John Travolta whose snake-hipped moves to the sounds of "You Should Be Dancing" established his reputation as a dancer and forever linked his image to that of the Bee Gees.

"Robin has had an indelible impact on music," he said.

Despite financial success, Robin Gibb and his brothers endured repeated tragedies. Maurice died suddenly of intestinal and cardiac problems in 2003. Their younger brother Andy Gibb, who also enjoyed considerable chart success as a solo artist, had died in 1988 just after turning 30. He suffered from an inflamed heart muscle attributed to a severe viral infection.

Robin Gibb himself took care of his health and, at the time of his death, was a vegan who did not drink alcohol.

Gibb was for decades a familiar figure on the pop stage, starting out in the 1960s when the Bee Gees were seen as talented Beatles copycats. They sounded so much like the Beatles at first that there were strong rumors that the Bee Gees' singles were really the Beatles performing under another name.

Many late-'60s bands were quickly forgotten, but the Bee Gees transformed themselves into an enduring A-List po werhouse with the almost unbelievable, and certainly unexpected, success of the song "Stayin' Alive" and others from the "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack that accompanied the movie.

With this second wind, the Bee Gees sold more than 200 million records and had a long string of successful singles, making their way into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

"Saturday Night Fever" - actually a compilation album featuring the Bee Gees but including songs by other performers - represented the pinnacle of Gibb's career, but he enjoyed more than 40 years of prominence as a Bee Gee, as a solo artist, and as a songwriter and producer for other artists.

The Bee Gees consisted of Barry Gibb, the eldest, and twins Robin Gibb and Maurice Gibb. Their three-part harmonies became their musical signature, particularly in the disco phase, when Barry's matchless falsetto often dominated, and they were renowned for their wide-ranging songwriting and producing skills.

The Gibbs were born in England on the Isle of Man, an island in the Irish Sea, but moved to Australia with their parents in 1958 when they were still quite young and began their musical career there. They had been born into a musical family, with a father who was a drummer and bandleader and a mother who liked to sing.

After several hits in Australia, their career started to really take off when they returned to England in 1967 and linked up with promoter Robert Stigwood.

After several hits and successful albums, Robin Gibb left the group in 1969 after a series of disagreements, some focusing on whether he or Barry should be lead vocalist. He released some successful solo material - most notably "Saved by the Bell" - before rejoining his brothers in 1970 and scoring a major hit with "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart."

Gibb is survived by his second wife, Dwina, and four children, as well as his mother Barbara, his older brother, fellow Bee Gee Barry Gibb, and his sister Lesley Evans, who lives in Australia.

I have no idea where the Gibbs from here originated from, but the homestead is in Perth County, Ontario which is in Canada. I know they were Scotish descent and came through Quebec. I know there are lots of relatives in the area still and I could try and get the history. They settled here in the 1850's and a popular name is James.

Hello everyone. My husband and I have been living in a farmhouse here in perth county and we decided to do some local research on it to include in our baby's scrapbook where she'll live.

I know that the Gibbs have lived on the land since the 1800's. I know that they built the house we are living in in 1905. They owned a dairy here up until the 1980's.

Names include James, William, Robert among other names. The earlier families had around 7-10 children, but I do know that the last Gibb to own it was James, son of James and I believe his father was either Robert or William.

There were about 4 or 5 generations that lived here. I do have the history and if you would like it, please email me and let me know. There are some pictures as well. I can also take pictures of the house and a few of the area's where James Gibb had fixed the cement on the house in 1979. Pictures surrounding the house and barn can be taken as well.

The Gibbs no longer own the farm, but there are Gibb's still living in perth county. Some live up the road.

Addison Richmond Gibb (B 1898) was a very good friend of my grandfather, Edward Kester in Rochester, NY. My father was named "Richmond" after A. Richmond Gibbb and two of my grandsons have that middle name. I've attached a picture of Richmond which was with my grandfather's possessions.

This line is related to a former girlfriend of mine, and I haven't worked on it in a number of years. These folks arrived in Hawaii in about 1905 and came from Aberdeen. Earlier generations were in Arbroath. My recollection is that there were some other Gibbs that arrived in Hawaii (either the big island or Maui) that must have been related, but I did not make the connection. I seem to remember that one line may have gone from Aberdeen to Australia and then to Hawaii from there. I know the gibb twina were my grandfather's 1st cousins. He was James gibb McNeil. My father was born in Perth Scotland and almost all my grandfathers cousins were twins or triplets. All four of my daughters had twins, none survived for very long. Mary Gibb was my grandfathers mother.

Thank you very much for the information about Marion Torrance Gibb. That is very helpful for research I am doing on a moosehair embroidered tablecloth that once belonged to Mr. and Mrs. James Gibb. It is now in the Canadian Museum of Civilisation. It was first purchased by the National Gallery of Canada from Mrs. Rowlandson of Toronto, a grand daughter of the Gibbs, in 1941.

Andrew Thomas Torrance b 1735 is my 4th great grandfather and I have lots of info on his descendants. (Not sure what connections you are interested in.) Something tells me that Marion Gibb was his 2nd wife as she was born about 20 years later that him.

I am doing some research on an embroidered tablecloth bought by Mr. James Gibb of Quebec. This tablecloth came down in his family until it was sold in 1941 to the National Gallery of Canada. It then moved to the Canadian Museum of civilisation. I would like to work out a date range of when it was bought. Mr. James Gibb died in 1858, however it may have been his wife, Marion Gibb nee Torrance who bought it. Does anyone know when she died? Thank you for any help. The story of the Gibb and Torrance families is fascinating.

Rose Ann Gibb, who married David James Beck 11 Sep 1849 in Antrim, is my 2nd great-grand aunt. Her parents, my 3rd great-grandparents, are John Gibb and Mollie Clark. Rose Ann had an older brother William and five additional siblings.

Rose Ann’s brother John D. Gibb (1825-1889) married Hannah Rea and they immigrated to Biggsville, Illinois in 1874. Their daughter Nancy Agnes GIbb (1851-1937) married John G. Kelly and they are my great-grandparents.

My great grandmother was the sister of Mary Jane Masters. Sisters were Mary Jane born 1849 Somerset, England (married to George Gibb); Elizabeth Francis born 1851 Somerset, England (married to James Besgrove); Sue born 1846 Somerset, England; and Sarah Ann born 1845 Somerset, England (married to William Tavener). The sisters all immigrated to America and settled with their spouses in the Livingston County, IL area. I am looking for descendents of these women to share information.
