I am John Frederick Gibberd, Coventry, England.
My father was David. Grandfather was Fred. Great Grandfather Alfred Ernest. Great Great Grandfather John Parry Gibberd. His wife was Mary Ann Linney. His father was John Gibberd and his mother Mary Parry.
Our menswear shop in Coventry is closing down this year as my brother and I wish to retire. The first clothing shop I can find was in Bedworth 1811 run by John Parry Gibberds father. Gibberds were in the cloth trade in Coventry in the 1700's. I have traced the family back to Humphrey Gilbart who was a farmer. I have more information if you want it.

Leta,

I would be interested in getting in touch about this line. We have John GIBBARD (b. 1774) in our tree but had no descendants (yet) so would be keen to see the details you have and the sources you've used.

I realise you posted this message some time ago so I do hope this is still relevant.

Best wishes,

John Gibbard (jodimmock is my wife's account)

Hi!
I'm searching for my great great grandfather - he emigrated from Poland sometime in the late 1800s or early 1900s. His son was Cheslov Durczyski, who later changed his name to Chester Duran for business reasons. Cheslov married Katie Doktor ( who I also would like to get info on) and lived in Detroit, MI. He died in 1988 and Katie died in 2005. She had moved to Petoskey, MI (northern MI) - I'm not sure if Cheslov ever did.

A Gibbard? Sorry for the interruption, but it sounds like a lady I'm looking for. She married a Gibbard, was born a Hubbard, and it is rumoured in the family that she dropped social status in marrying a Colonel of the Life Guards. This sounds very interesting.
Would you mind letting me have anything you've got? I'm fairly new at this, and am lost.
Many many thanks

I agree the year of her birth is probably about right, but I'm not sure it's her. I am expecting a copy of her weddiing certificate in the next week, so then I'll know her year of birth. May I come back to you when I know this? Thanks again.

Have just spotted your e-mail response and note you have Gibbard connections at Kings Norton. I am just starting out on doing my family tree on my Dad's side. He was born in 1912 and registered at Kings Norton, although his actual birth place was Smethwick. His Mum's name was Kate Gibbard and I believe she married John Henry Goodwin around 1907. Do these people feature in your tree at all?

My grandfather was Jesse Gibbard, who moved into Brentford in about 1902 from Padbury. He was married to Nelly. (My father always maintained that she was a 'Nelson', but I never saw a birth/marriage certificate, so cannot be sure). They had 4 children, Richard, Leonard, Jessie and Nelly. My father was Leonard, who married Lorna Lodge in 1947. He died in 1988 and my mother died in 1998.
They had two sons, Philip (1949) and Robert (1953).
Philip now lives in Cambridge with Ann, they have no children, and I live in Marlow, Bucks, with my wife, Carol. We have 2 daughters, Penny (1983) and Nicky (1983).

This certainley sounds like the right family, I know very little about that side of the family. My Dad left us when I was 6. I only knew of his adoptive family. It wasn't until his death I knew of his original birth name. He was born in Kings Norton. I was hoping you were a relative it would have been nice to know something about my grandmother and family. I have photographs of her now, very much the lady. Very smartly dressed sporting expensive jewellery, so my thoery of her being in service there may well be wrong. many thanks for your kindness in looking things up for me. I would be very grateful if you could send me what you have. I believe I have a relative called Cathy the grand child of one of my Grandmothers brothers. This part of the family lived in Stratford and may still do.Jean

Hello Sarah

As you posted this message way back in 2002, you probably have all the information you requested. I'm currently researching all the Gibbard families in Oxfordshire trying to find links to my particular interest - the Gibbards of Fencott/Murcott. Your George was born in Great Tew s/o Joseph and Rachel and I have extracted all the Gibbard information from the Great Tew Parish register if it's of interest to you. Regards Carol

Have just added a database to WorldConnect trees, ref: gib-dim0001 which contains some work already shown by Carla Sumner's tree and Brant Gibbard's. As I am a direct descendant of Jesse Gibbard (Padbury then Marylebone) I also have additional (living) information on this line as recently obtained copies of Jesse's WW1 service record from the National Archives. Please contact me if you can help with further Padbury GIBBARD research.

John.

Hi Sarah

I can certainly help with dates etc from the Parish registers and am building quite a large descendancy sheet for your George from Great Tew/Maidenhead so if you'd like to contact me on carol@alansmith.co.uk I can email it to you.

There's a very eerie coincidence here - he lived at 59 Garden Cottages in Maidenhead. My Gibbard connection is through my mother's father - his mother married twice, the second time to a Gibbard who may or not be connected to your Great Tew ancestors. My mother's mother was a Pearce and her elder brother lived in Garden Cottages in the early 1900's - not sure which one - but his name was also George! Garden Cottages was a row of three very long terrace blocks, the front row of which faced the allottments - hence Garden Cottages, I presume. They have long since been knocked down and the whole area has been redeveloped.

Kind regards
Carol

Hello John

I know you have been corresponding with Brant Gibbards 'cousin' Glen, who is also descended from the Padbury Gibbards. I am researching another Gibbard family from the Fencott/Murcott/Charlton on Otmoor area of Oxfordshire and can throw some light on your Audrey Gibbard marr 1955.

She is my mother's cousin and still lives in Camberley, Surrey not far from the family home. She married Peter Geoffrey Raynsford on 10/09/1955 at RMA Sandhurst (which would have been registered in Windsor). She is the fourth child of Henry James (known as Harry) Gibbard and his wife Louisa Mary (nee Boddington). Henry James was the second child of Charles Henry (known as Henry/Harry) Gibbard and his wife Edith Edwards. Edith was born a Jennings and married a Walter Edwards who died leaving her with 7 young children - she then married Henry Gibbard and had another 8 children! My mother was an Edwards born to Edith's son William Edwards - hence my connection with the Gibbard family. Charles Henry was bap 11/03/1864 in Murcott, s/o William and Caroline. I have traced Charles Henry's family back to a marriage in Bletchingdon of a John Gibbard to Mary Marriett on 01/03/1785. He was possibly the son of Joseph and Mary Horwood who lived in Fencott from c 1785.

This is all probably irrelevant to your Padbury Gibbard research but thought it might cross one possibility off of your list!

Kind regards
Carol

Hello Jean

Your Annie doesn't fit into the Kings Norton Gibbards I have so I've looked a little further. I can't find any Gibbards born Stratford upon Avon on the 1901 census so assumed your information about Annie and siblings having been born in Stratford and checked the CRI for Stratford and found about 20 of them! This family had a daughter called Annie born Sept Q 1889 Stratford upon Avon - she would have been 25 when your William was born. I found her on the 1891 census living in Bearley which is 4mls NW of Stratford upon Avon and Bearley would be in the Stratford upon Avon registration district so this much ties up. Her father was John Gibbard bc 1840 Idbury, Glos and his wife Elizabeth died Sept Q 1889 Stratford presumably giving birth to Annie. They definitely had 8 children including a daughter Catherine who could have been known as Kit - she was 2 years younger than Annie. There are births for another 3 children who could also be their offspring and another 6 children all born between 1891 and 1982 who definitely aren't their children. If any of this sounds likely please contact me at carol@alansmith.co.uk and I will let you have all the information I have on this family.

Regards
Carol

I do have a Kate Ellen Gibbard bn West Smethwick (Dec Q 1888 Solihull 6d 517) on a very large Gibbard tree. She was d/o Joseph Richard bap 08/12/1861 Nether Worton and his wife Ellen Vincent, which would seem to fit your grandmother Jean. This Kate Ellen was certainly living in Smethwick in 1901. She had a sister bc 1895 Oldbury and a brother Bertie J bc 1900 Smethwick. If this Kate fits the information you have then please come back to me at carol@alansmith.co.uk - I have a large tree here going back to 1697.
