I am a descendant of Rachel Lavina Gibbens born 3/22/1816 she married John Whittington and is the great grandfather of my grandfather Clarence Whittington. He was born in Vermillion County In. I have family information for the Gibbens family starting with James Gibbens and which follows to the marriage of Lavina to my grandfather in her direct descendant line. Is there any information before James Gibbens before 1720 in Virginia?

Gibbens Family in Louisiana

Hello,
I am looking for anyone related to the Gibbens Family in Louisiana. My father's cousin Lillian (Lawrence) Gibbens was married to Henry Howell Gibbens (we called him Tony), Tony aka Henry came from a rather large family. His father was William B. Gibbens and his mother was Marie (Moore) Gibbens. William ran a sugar plantation down in Matthews, Louisiana. There other children were, sons: Julian, James, Thomas, Elmore and Robert, there was also a sister named Marie. I think there were other brothers and sisters but I am not sure.
If anyone out there is related to the Gibbens family of Louisiana and working on family history, I would be very interested in getting in contact with you!

Thank you, Keith Lawrence

I can be contacted at:

keith79lawrence@msn.com

I think we are looking at the same family only I am looking for information on Amos Jackson Warren, my great grandfather.
Marilda Gibbons married Amos Jackson Warren 6 jul 1878. They traveled from PA to Missouri and back and Marilda (or Morilda as her obituary spells it) married at least 3 more times that I know of. The obituary says she had 3 living brothers (but lists 4) Jason Gibbons, Delbert Gibbons,Edward Gibbons and Jacob Gibbons, and 2 sisters, Mrs. J. Brink, and Mrs Julia Linderman. If this sounds familiar, please let me know. Hope it helps

I don't have the name of the paper but I think it may have been the Warren Tribune as she died in Warren General Hospital in Warren, PA and had lived in Clarendon for 17 years prior to her death. The obituary is listed as Morilda Ann Frederick. It is my understanding that she had married several times after being married to Amos Jackson Warren. I don't have a lot of information on her but I'm happy to share what I have. my email is anita@cyberservices.com

Thank you for the reply. I have the same information for Amos Jackson & Morilda. But information that had been gathered at family reunions over the years had Elijah B Warren as Amos's father and Isaac Warren and Kate Tosser as his wife Catherine's parents. Roy Warren (Amos' son) was my grandfather. Let me contact the family member who is holding the Warren reunion records and I'll see what else I can find. I do have a copy of Morilda's obituary and if you would like, I'd be happy to send it to you.

Your wife's grandfather was probably right; I'm not sure which name is correct.Marilda or Matilda. I am looking for my grandfather's siblings and their families. Just last night, I read about Dessie Ethel Warren; I know she had 11 children and Edger Light, her husband was killed in a car accident. The Gibbens family lived in Venango County for years.
John H.Gibbens (B.12/01/1831-d.12/28/1909)-Carline M.Dey (b. 6/13/1841-d.5/3/1909)
Jackson Twp. Venango County are the parents of Mary Elizabeth, Andrew Ancel, Sarah Etta, Edward, Julie Marie, Marilda Ann (Matilda Jane), Delbert, Jason and Jacob. John and Carline are buried in Peters cemetery, not far from my Grandparents, Delbert Gibbens (b.10/09/1873-d.09/09/1971)and Jennie L. Reisinger (b.09/15/1876-d.04/14/1931) I cann't say for certain who are John's parents; I have been told it is John Gibbens sr. and Susan Stainbrook and then another person said it is Mariah ? and Andrew Gibbens.I am still searching. Do you know anything about Marilda or the other siblings?

Is it possible that one of your Fredrick Gibbens' siblings name was Abraham? Abraham was born in 1818-19 in either Ohio or Indiana. He moved to Michigan at one point but ultimately settled in Iowa. He married Rebecca Garrison in Seneca County Ohio in 1842. They were the parents of 10 children. One an infantry unit from Indiana during the Civil War.

Thomas Gibbens of KY and MO

I am looking for the parents of Thomas Gibbens. From family stories, Thomas may have been "orphaned" or taken in by a German Family, possibly with sibilings.

He married Margaret Robinson (born 7/12/1788)in Bullitt Co. Kentucky. They had two sons before she died. There were apparently difficulties between Tom and his sons because they moved on to Lousianna after some sort of argument. I also think the Robinsons took sides with the boys. He wasn't thrilled when his daughter married the grandson of Margaret Robinson's step-mother.

He then married Nancy Jane Farley. Between 1820 - 1836 the family moved on to MO. I know Thomas had a large farm. His daughter was Frances Jane Gibbens born Aug 4, 1836 in St. Louis, MO.She married James S. Allender on Nov 3, 1858 in Clay Co. MO.

The 1860 St Clair Co., MO Census shows Oseola Township Household 297 with Frances Jane Gibbens' father-in-law, Edward Allender (age 62) farmer born in KY married to Mary A. (age 20) and two children America (F age 2) & George (M 7 ½ months). Also listed in the same household are Alex Robinson age 44 farmer, Mary A. (38), T. Robinson (20 M), John Robinson (16 M) Dicy Robinson (6 F).

They lived next door (Household 298) to James Gibbens (35 M) Miner, Mary (25 F), Mary E. (14 F), Rachel (8 F), Joseph L. (6 M), John W. (4 M), Ashue (1 M) and B. J. Trump (25 M) laborer

Thomas Gibbens is buried in the old part of the Worden Cemetery at Worden, Madison Co, IL.

That's it. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Staci
