Re: Robert Reeve Gibbes et al.
Hello all,
I am new to family research, but I am the great-grandson of Sir Edward Osborne-Gibbes, who was son of Sir Samuel Osborne-Gibbes, and grandson of Sir Philip - as best I can tell. My great uncle (also Sir Philip Gibbes) died in New Zealand in 1940 without issue, and he was the last baronet (of four). This branch of the family migrated to New Zealand about 1850. I have a family tree from the College of Arms London dated 1801. Sir Philip Gibbes of Springhead in Barbados was born 7th March 1730/31 created baronet 30 May 1774. From the family tree, it would seem that some of SIr Philip's grandfather's sisters (Sarah, Willoughby and Mary) went to South Carolina early in the 1700's. The rather battered paper copy I have of the family tree goes back 6 generations from Sir Philip, to about 1600. in Bristol.
I am trying to create a definitive family tree from 1800 to 1900 but am not having a lot of succes, so if anybody has additional information I'd love to hear from them.
I am Philip Thompson (I have retained the Gibbes Chistian name!) and live in Wellington New ZEaland.
