I was adopted and recently discovered that my 'real' father was a Glen Edward Gibboney of PA. He died about 20 years ago. Anyway, I'd like to know the origins of the name Gibboney. Is it a variation of Gibbons or Mac Gibbons? I assume it's Irish but don't know. Any tips on researching the name or family or any other information would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Glen

I am looking for information about my gg grandmother named Dorthula or Dorthala Gibboney. She married Peter Miller in Marion Co. Mo. in 1865. She died at a very young age leaving two orphan children, Thomas Herbert and Lottie Mae Miller. Her husband Peter left the children in two different counties in Mo. and returned to Germany. Anyone have any Missouri Gibboneys? Also there were Pitonys and Brown or Bornes living with them on the 1870 census. Karen Moore Kerr

Gibboney/Webb of Mifflin, Pennsylvania

I'm looking for information on the Webb family(ies) that settled in the Belleville/Menno/Kishacoquillas Valley area of Pennsylvania in the early 1800's.
My ancestor, Elizabeth Webb b. Jan. 10,1834 married abt. 1851Harrison Hazzard Gibboney. Harrison ran the Gibboney Woolen Mill that manufactured blankets for the Union Army during the Civil War. His wife, Elizabeth Webb, was a descendant of John Webb and Mary Boone, the sister of Squire Boone who was the father of Daniel.
The information that our family had was lost back in the 1960's when my grandmother passed away. It had been copied from the Gibboney family bible. We believe that Elizabeth's parents were, John Webb and Mary "Polly" Wilson. The following is a list of their children:
Jane Webb b. Abt. 1827
Catherine Webb b. Abt. 1829
Thomas Webb b. Abt. 1831
Elizabeth Webb b. January 10, 1834
Margaret A. Webb b. Abt. 1840
John Webb, Jr. b. Abt. 1841
Rachel Webb b. Abt. 1844
I'd like to find the parents of this John Webb Sr.. According to his age of 47 on the 1850 census, he would have been born abt 1803.
Gibboney ancestors in Ohio

I am a descendent of Jane Gibboney, who married John Cairns in the registry office of Coxhoe, Co. Durham, England. According to their marriage certificate of March 12, 1870, Jane's father John Gibboney was a coal miner. The 1881 census of Ferryhill, Co. Durham, England, lists John Gibboney 51, wife Ann 52, son William 25, and son John 11. The census lists the birthplace of both John and Ann as Co. Down, Ireland.
Jane's sister Anne married John Sloan, and they came to Ohio. They are listed as Slone in the 1880 census of Hocking County, Ohio, along with daughters Jane 3, and Lizzie 7 months. Anne died in 1882. Jane's sister Elizabeth married Samuel Willis.
The remainder of Jane's family, except her sister Elizabeth, settled in Trimble, Athens Co., Ohio in 1881. The 1900 census for Trimble, Athens, Ohio lists head William Gibney 45, Ann 71, and John 30. Jane's mother Ann and her two brothers William and John all died in 1907.
Jane and John Cairns and their four children came to Ohio in 1882 and settled in Doanville, Athens Co.
Could any of these folks be the same as your ancestors? Let's compare notes.
