I recently obtained a lot of old newspaper articles from Illinois, from the 1960s.

"Robert D. Gibbons, special agent in charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation office at Springfield, died today of an apparent heart attack. He was 50.

Gibbons, who led the raid on the armed camp of John Robert Harrell at Louisville in 1961, had been in charge of the Springfield FBI office since 1958. Last November 1 he completed 30 years' service with the FBI.

Born at Akron, Ohio, Gibbons grew up in Birmingham, Michigan. He received a law degree from George Washington University at Washington.

Gibbons joined the FBI at Houston, Texas, in 1934 and subsequently worked in the FBI offices at San Antonio, Texas; Cleveland, Ohio, and Phoenix, Arizona. He was assigned to the FBI headquarters at Washington and from 1954 to 1958 was assistant special agent in charge of the FBI office at Birmingham, Alabama.

He is survived by his widow, Agnes; a daughter, Helen Jane; his mother, Mrs. Leo Gibbons, Birmingham, Michigan; a brother, Richard L. Gibbons, Park Ridge, Illinois, and a sister, Mrs. Merle Webb, Kalamazoo, Michigan."
