Sally, are you still looking for Gibbonses? I am as well. I have a William Gibbons born 1852 in Oxford, married to an Emma in roughly 1873. William was a boatman, and his descendants were boat people and married boat people. William and Emma aren't likely Samuel's parents, unless I have their daughter Mary's bd off a little (1875).

I am currently in the process of trying to get a memorial erected to them in my village and would like any and all details pertaining to them.
Kind Regards Drew McEwan

Re: Searching for Mary Gibbons Malone 1833-1908 connection

William (Myles)!
Thanks for reply. With not bein sure who Myles Gibbons was, a connection may be a remote possiblity.

Is it safe to assume back then that a brother or sister would be a likely godparent/witness for christening? Mary's 1908 death certificate from City Hall definitely listed Dominick Gibbons and Mary----- of Ireland as my ggg's parents. So if not her brother, could it be possible that your Myles was Mary's uncle or cousin?

THANKS so much for reminding me about info. I previously located on Griffiths and forgot about. Gotta stay better organized! (LOL) Found a Dominick Gibbons, a shopkeeper,at Cahernamart, Bridge Street and a Myles (with 3 different addresses) in Westport. This Dominic and Myles might be possible connection for me. A Dominick Gibbons on Castlebar St. was listed in 1901 census with Maria as wife, living at different address from 1848 with two children (Patrick & Margaret) living there.

Also located on Griffiths a Mary Gibbons (if Dominic died by 1848?) and Myles Gibbons at different addresses in Ballinrobe. Interestingly, according to 1901 census, Sara Malone Curley (possibly my ggg's daughter) and her husband, Hugh Curley, ran a drapery shop on Bridge St. in Ballinrobe.

Thank again. Perhaps some other pieces to the puzzle will fall into place for us.

Tom Malone

Tom

My g grandfather Myles Gibbons (1832-1913)was supposedly the son of Austin Gibbons and Margaret Burke of County Mayo. He emigrated to the US about 1850. My grandfather said he had siblings, but most stayed "in the old country." I think one sister named Ellen lived in PA. Never heard of a reference to a Dominick in the family. Was Dominick a shopkeeper in Westport? Seem to remember that name in the Griffith's Valuation of 1848, here it is:
http://www.failteromhat.com/post1845.php

Gibbons	Dominick	Cahernamart, Tn of Westport: Bridge Street	Oughaval	Mayo.

I see in the same list there are lots of Myles Gibbons in Mayo.

Regards,
William Myles Gibbons

Searching for Mary Gibbons Malone 1833-1908 connection

Have discovered that Gibbons, and particularly Mary Gibbons, appears to be a very common name in County Mayo. Taking a chance to see if anyone researching Gibbons has a connection to my Malone family research.

Mary Gibbons Malone abt 1833-1908 and John Malone abt 1818-1882 (my gggrandparents) were living in Clogernagh West, Addergoole, County Mayo as of 1850. They emigrated to US (possibly via Boston) between 1864 and 1875. They settled in Lowell, Mass. abt. 1880. Mary's parents were Dominick and Mary Gibbons of Ireland. Their birth dates are likely late 1700's. 6 Malone children were baptized in Clogernagh West 1850-1863. At the 1850 christening of Pat Malone, Myles Gibbons was a witness. Thinking Myles might be my gg's Mary's brother? Does any of this connect with your Gibbons work?

Thanks,
Tom Malone

Bermuda 1964-66

I am not actually looking for ancesors. I am however trying to locate an old friend of mine, I lived in Bermuda from 1964-66 as my father was at NOB. I lived on Wreck Road, and had a great friend named Judy Gibbons. I believe she had a brother named either Steven or Bruce, but my memory could be wrong. She lived off Wreck Roadalso. In later years I believe her grandfather was living at Fern Knoll across the street from my house. Her house was pink and I remember she taught me to play a game called "seven-up" in which you throw the ball against he side of the house. I now this is probably a strange request for an ancesry site, but I figured this might be a good place to check out. My last name at the time was Burden, She migh remember my dog Nick.Any help you can give me would be appreciated. Sincerely Ruth ( Burden ) Earley

Hi - following a phone call to the US where I was talking about my Grandfather's family (Michael Gibbons) going to the US, prompted me to google their family name and find this post.

My Grandfather who must have been born sometime in 1880 and died in 1972 is buried in the graveyard at Aughagower. My Mum is Kathleen Gibbons and she had a sister Catherine. All common names at that time.

However, I remember as a kid going to the Church in Aughagower and I'm going to ask my Mum later (she's in her 70's now) and her sister (who is in her 90's) if they know who your family is!

Hopefully you might get this post!

Stannis Gibbons

I have run into a roadblock.

I have traced my family back to Stannis Gibbons (born about 1808) in Maryland. He moved to Belmont County, Ohio and began appearing on census records beginning in 1840.

Does anyone have any trace of him either in Ohio prior to 1840 or in Maryland? I'd also like to learn about his parents and hid wife's family as well (Mary Hannah Gilespay - born about 1815 in Ohio).

I think they are buried at Scotch Ridge cemetary in Belmont County, but have not been able to verify.

Thanks!

John Gibbons

As it appears there were not many Gibbons in Cumberland in the 1700's I'm wondering if my Robert Gibbons bp St Cuthbert's Carlisle 9 Jul 1775, son of John Gibbons and Hannah Scott, could be a descendant of the Rev. Thomas Gibbons.
Robert Gibbons farmed in the Longtown area for over 50 years (Howend and Mossband) and his eldest son, Thomas, was a very well respected farmer on the Graham's Netherby Estate for many years in the 1800's.
I have noticed that there was a Gibbon (no "s") family in Penrith for many generations going back to the 1500's. Any connection?
Helen

This Patrick supposedly was the son of Patrick Gibbons 1775-? & Lally; his siblings were Thomas 1800-1847 (m Bridget Walsh & fathered Cardinal Gibbons) and Martin 1802-1853 (m Ellen Duffy).
How does that fit that in?
Thanks!!!
