My brother just returned from Southwestern France. He spoke to the mayor of Lusignan, France, who, I understand, is a decendant of Gabriel's.
Gabriel was born and baptized in the Cathedral of Notre Dame, Lusignan, France in 1641. Gabriel's father was Pierre Gibault and his mother was Renee Lorliere. The original family name is "Gibaud", which means "to give". The Gibaud family were Hugoneauts who fled Europe because they were persecuted by the Crusaders, who insisted they convert to Catholicism.
Gabriel married Suzanne Durant on October 30, 1667 in Quebec. Canada. Suzanne Durant's parents were Eitienne Durant and Genevieve de la Mare. Their offspring were Jean-Baptiste Gibault and Pierre Gibault (my direct decendent).
Pierre had a son, grandson, and greatgrandson by the name of Jacques Gibault. The last Jacques Gibault was married to Eugenie Bisson on July 7, 1829 in St. Jacques, Montcalm, PQ. There son was named Napoleon, who married Elmire Belair on September 3, 1889 in Cornwall, Stormont, ON. Their son, Hector, changed the name to "Gibeault."
For your information, there are also many Gibaut families that fled to the Jersey Island, which are situated between England and France.
Hope this helps everyone!
