I have info on the IOM Gicks who were farmers and landowners in the south of the Island. I have traced them back to around 1680.

Often wondered did the Gicks go from the Island to Germany, or from Germany to the Island (IOM).

The IOM has strong ancestral links to the Vikings who once controlled it, until it was taken from them by the Scots under Robert the Bruce.

The parliament 'Tynwald' goes back to the Vikings. Parts of North Germany adjoin Viking lands (Scandanavia)so it is possible the Gicks of IOM go back to Viking settlement.

Only just seen your entry. I have a lot of info on the Gicks from the IOM going back to 17th century. I am directly related.

Searching an entire saturday with the result, that there is no Gick left in Meerane. I remember that her grandfather was an minery- worker. The house in Wehrgasse was very old and nice.

I was merryed to an Anke Gick how lived with her mother, i really belife, in Wehrgasse 10 Meerane. But i lost track myself.

I have a Robert Gick who came to the USA in the 1880s and lived in PA. He was a dentist and married Grace Lee. He was probably born about 1872, so he would have been about 8 when he came. His census records in 1910 and 1930 say his father was from Irish Free State and mother was from England.

Do you know where in Bavaria your Gicks came from? My Gicks left Zapfendorf near Bamberg in 1846 via Philadelphia (ship landing) to Johnstown, PA.

Do you have any other information on John Gick? Perhaps his other children? I have a great great grandfather John Gick.

My great great grandfatherwas John Gick. His son was Robert Gick. He was a fireman who lived in Camden, NJ. Robert's son was Howard Gick also a fireman who lived in Camden, NJ.
According to Robert Gick's marriage certificate, John Gick was born in Germany. I would appreciate any information anyone might have on John Gick.

Your Charles Gick happens to be the 1st cousin of my father, John W. Gick, also from Benton County. I have quite a bit of info on the Gick line which I would be glad to share.

Gick Family Photos

I have several turn of the century photos. They are postcard photos and some were originally sent to my great-aunt, Rosetta Haber Schlender who lived in Olpe, Kansas.

I believe the Gick family is related to my great-aunt's husband, Albert R. Schlender.

Photo dated, 12/22/1908, labeled Lillie and Elma Gick. Ages of the girls appear to be in late teens.

Another Photo, undated, labeled Erwin and Inez Gick and Ruby Hoffman.

Another Photo, undated other than Thanksgiving, is a group photo. Among the names listed are Uncle Henry Gick, Inez Gick, Lillie Gick.

I am trying to find descendants of the individuals in these photos. I would like to return these pictures to a family member.

I can also scan the photos and e-mail them.

i am researching the Gick Family for my husband we are descendants of Casper Gick, I have hit a snag in research there some children that I cannot find any information on this is how it is listed the Gick Family Book at the library in Fort Wayne, Indiana

Mary Gick (Dau. of John Gick) married Henry G. Wagner on oct. 1, 1891

Elizabeth Gick (Dau. of Casper Gick) married Gottlieb Hitzeman on Dec. 4, 1864 states they had 8 or 9 children

Mary Gick (Dau. of Casper Gick) married Frederick Ropa on Dec. 7, 1871

George Gick (Son of CAsper Gick) married Louis Benes on Nov. 2, 1871

Caroline Gick (Dau. of Casper gick) married unknow Schmidt on June 27, 1875 states they had 5 or 6 children

Whelheminia (Minnie) Gick (Dau. of Casper gick) married henry or honry kloepper of floepper on Dec. 29, 1878 had 5 or 6 children also

i have a whole list of people i can not find anywhere i have connected about 85% of the Casper Gick tree but I am stuck if anyone has any of these names please contact me.

My mother-in-law was Theresa Marie Gick Wetli. She was marrried to John Robert Wetli. They were both killed on January 22, 1999 at the intersection of US 41 and US 18 in Benton County, IN.
