GIDDING, CHARLES

Rank and organization: Seaman, U.S. Navy. Born: 1853, Bangor, Maine. Accredited to: Maine. G.O. No.: 215, 9 August 1876. Citation: Serving on board the U.S.S. Plymouth, Gidding showed heroic conduct in trying to save the life of one of the crew of that ship, who had fallen overboard from aloft at the Navy Yard, New York, 26 July 1876.

Burial location of this recipient is unknown.

Edward Giddings

I feel a bit silly responding to a message that's over 3 years old, but what the heck!

I am also descended from Edward Giddings or Giddins of Fort Niagara, though much more distantly. He was my GGGG grandfather, and I am descended through his first wife.

He was certainly a fascinating character. If one can have a favorite ancestor, I do believe he's mine!

I don't have a great deal of information on him, just what I've gleaned from Google Books, but would be willing to share what I have.

My husband is a descendant of John Giddings. I also have info that I would like to share. There is a book called, The Giddings in North Amercia. I'm told that it has all the information that we might need. Marie D. Giddings has the info on ordering it.. My husband's great-grandfather was Edward Giddings who was born in Salem, Ma. and died in Fort Niagara, NY in 1862.
