The following was posted 28Sep2003 by LuJean Weber <Valleymillworks@darnfastnet.com> on the Cunico Family Board. See:<http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=message&r=rw&p...;

I am leery of this info???

"My Cunico search now leads me to a new name perhaps.

Jim Rundgren helped with information from his family and actually explained how Rundgren was linked to Cunico. I have searched old letters and found a letter written to my mother (Jean Cunico) from Mary Cunico who was married to Art Mairet. In this letter she stated the Cunico name was previously Gieger - now I'm really confused! I have a 6 generation pedigree and nowhere does a Gieger pop up. Mary had a daughter - Mary Lee Schnoor - I would like to contact Mary. I have been searching for Mary Mairet's "Father - Antonio Cunico" brothers and sisters for quite some time and believe Mary Lee Schnoor could have some answers and perhaps help me with the "Gieger" name.

Mary if you are a reader of of the message boards - please email me - or if ANYONE has information on Antonio Cunico brothers and sisters born 9 July 1865 in Asiago Italy give me a jingle - I know there is an answer its just finding the right person!!!"
Charlotte Vashti GIEGER (1873-1940)

Charlotte Vashti GIEGER, second child of Abraham and Sarah Ann (Clark) Gieger, was born in Grant Parish, Louisiana, on August 13, 1873, and moved with her parents to Goolsboro (now Talco), Texas between 1873 and early 1876. "Aunt Vashti" was a short, slender woman with dark features. Her hair, which she wore in a bun, streaked silver in later life. She was barely five-feet tall and weighed about seventy pounds. She was never married, but loved children and played gleefully with her nephews, nieces, and later, their children. Each one held a deep affection for her. Like her mother and sister Blanche, she was a prudent lady who milked cows, sold eggs, gardened and canned, to help sustain herself and her sister. She could read and write, as evidenced by legal transactions in Titus County, Texas. She could equal her mother, in sewing and cooking. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Talco, and was buried in the Talco Cemetery following her death at Paris, Texas, on January 1, 1940.

(Excerpt from Sons and Daughters from Andrew Jackson and Nona (Coffman) Gieger of Titus County Texas - 1993)

Abraham Martin Gieger 1851/1930
Abraham Martin GIEGER, first child of Rev. Samuel and Louisa (Hough) GIEGER, was born 17 November 1851, in Smith County,
Mississippi. His father died when he was almost seventeen. He married Sarah Ann Elender Clark on 4 December 1870, in Louisiana, possibly Grant Parish. Not much is known of his early life except that he could read and write well. Abe was a thin man of short stature, and wore a full beard and long hair. He migrated to Shelby County, Texas, around 1873, to join his mother and younger siblings. They farmed for one season on land which was too poor to yield a profitable crop, then moved on to Goolesboro (now Talco) in Titus County, Texas, after a brief stop at Jefferson. "Uncle Abe," as he was called, was an honest man of benevolent spirit, and faithful in his church. Several families pooled their money to purchase a section of land, all of which was deeded to him. He fairly distributed the land in deeds to his friends who had come to Titus County with him. He purchased adjacent properties at fair prices when his neighbors wanted to sell-out and move. Abe was elected a trustee for the Goolesboro Common School District in 1896. This father of three sons and three daughters became the stabilizing male-influence to his grandchildren after two of his own sons died in middle-age. He worked hard to make his crops profitable, and was a proficient and talented wood-craftsman. A charter member and organizer of First Baptist Church of Talco in 1883, he was buried in the Talco Cemetery following his death from Prostatitus on 10 May 1930.

(Excerpted from "Sons & Daughters from Andrew Jackson Gieger and Nona (Coffman) Gieger of Titus County, Texas" -1993)
Andrew Jackson GIEGER - 1878/1923
Andrew Jackson GIEGER, fourth child of Abraham and Sarah Ann (Clark) GIEGER, was born in Goolesboro (now Talco), Texas on 24 June 1878. He attended school in Talco, and made a Profession of Faith on 22 July 1894, at First Baptist Church of Talco, then was baptized on 23 September 1894. Andrew met Nona Aletha Matilda Coffman at a Holiness Camp-Meeting in Red River County. They were married on 13 March 1910, then lived near Talco on their farm where he raised cotton. Two sons and one daughter were born to this union. Andrew was a man of medium build with dark hair that balded in middle-age. Prior to marriage, he once worked as a cook in Paris, Texas, but did not like it. In August of 1913, he was employed as a bookkeeper by J.D. Chapman, a dealer in hardware and buggies in Talco. In 1916, Andrew and his brother, Luther, opened a grocery store in Talco, but there wasn't enough business to support two families. He served as clerk of the First Baptist Church of Talco in 1917-1919 and again, in 1922-1923. He was highly respected and his integrity was impeccable. Andrew died from typhoid fever on 8 August 1923, leaving his young sons and baby daughter for Nona to rear. He was buried in the Talco Cemetery.

Excerpted from "Sons and Daughters from Andrew Jackson Gieger and Nona (Coffman) Gieger of Titus County, Texas" - 1993
